Work Text:
“Jeffery!”
Jeffery heard his name getting called out from behind him. He slams his locker shut and turns around seeing Kenyatta running towards him with what seems to be a piece of paper.
“Kenyat–”
“Jeffery! here,” Kenyatta hands him the paper he was holding in his hand, “Jacques told me to give it to you!”
Jeffery was semi shocked at hearing his name. not gonna lie, he thought Jacques was angry at him, I mean— he hasn't talked to him since yesterday. Maybe he is angry, like, he isn't here to give him the letter, instead he got Ken to bring it to him...
Okay, Jeffrey, calm down. Stop overthinking it.
“Thanks, Ken!” He tells him, waving him off.
—
Un-crumbling the note, first thing he notices is the address and time near the end of the letter. Saying something about him wanting to meet at a park later this afternoon, some time between 5:30 or 5:50.
Jeffery has read enough, thats all he needed to see, he went to the bathroom to take a shower and get ready for whatever this conversation was going to be about.
—
Jesus, Today was not the day to walk to the park, or just anywhere in that matter. It's been raining the whole day. Jeffrey thought it was just gonna be in the morning, only to be proven wrong, 'cause he was soaking wet! Not to mention he didn't even bring an umbrella, only thing he had with him was a sweater that barely even kept him warm.
Jeffrey finds a dry spot in the park, looking for the paper in his pocket, to see if he was in the right spot, cause right now he doesn't see a sign of Jacques being here.
He successfully finds the paper, finding out that it was the right address, only to realize that he came here a bit early... like, 10 minutes early.
He sighs, deciding to just stay where he was while he waits.
—
Jacques comes to the park a couple of minutes late, due to it raining heavily. But, y'know it's whatever, he doesn't pay any mind to it, surely Jeffrey wont be here yet, or anytime soon. Even if he was here, surely he'll forgive him! Oh, but what about him ghosting and not talking to him? Will he forgive him for that?? Wouldn't know until he talks to him.
Walking closer in to the park, he notices Jeffrey. Damn, he's here earlier than he expected.
“Jeffery!!” He shouted at him. y'know, to alert him he was there.
Jeffery turned towards him, still in that soaking wet sweater, that hasn't even dried out. SOMEHOW!
It's been 50 minutes or so since he got here, how hasn't it dried out!?
whatever, that doesn't matter right now. What matters, is that Jacques was finally here! The person He was here waiting for finally came!
“Jacques, hi!” he waves towards him. Jacques goes running towards him, hugging him. In the process he touches his wet hoodie, the cotton feeling moist at that point.
“Jesus, Jeffrey you're, uhm, soaking wet. How long have you been here for?”
“Still??” He responds to the part where the shorter pointed out he was still wet. Jeffery was getting too comfortable to the cold moist feeling, he didn't know that his sweater was still drenched. “I've been out here for probably more than 50 minutes, how is it still wet!”
“Oh, sorry for letting you wait too long for me.” Jacques was starting to feel bad. His poor Jeffrey, he's been here like this for accordingly an hour.
“No, it's ok!” He reassures him. “It's not your fault. actually, it's my fault for coming here so early, nd also not even thinking to bring an umbrella.” He laughs off the last part, trying to make good of this situation.
“Yeah, sure.”
“Oh, also! what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?”
“I— uhm, lets go somewhere warmer.” The former request, to which Jeffrey accepts, he is getting tired of staying out in the cold rainy weather.
—
There the two were, sitting at a table in the corner if a warm cafe, with their order in front of them. Jeffery was the first one to start drinking, while Jacques was squirming around in his seat, wondering on how to bring up his topic.
“Jacques,” Jacques shot his head up, looking straight at him. “What'd you wanna talk about?”
“Oh, I- uh, I,”
Their table went quite, only being able to hear the whispers around them. About what? I dont know, mostly about summer plans, nothing that important. At least not to them.
“I- Je- Jeffery,” Jacques started again, “I wanna talk to you about, I uhm...” Jacques comes to a halt after only a few words.
Noticing Jacques is uncomfortable, or some emotion like that, Jeffrey reaches for his hands, taking ahold of the both of them.
“Jacques,” Jeffery starts to talk in this calming many. Looking up, Jeffrey has a warm friendly smile. “We're friends, you can tell me anything! There's no need to be nervous!”
“I” Jacques starts up again, “Jeffery, I...” The latter looks down, to look at the formers hands holding his wrist tightly, but not too tight. He seems to calm down by just that. “I have a- a crush on you.”
Woah. Out of anything they would've talked about, he didn't expect that. Well, ok. I mean, yeah, they flirted at times, but that was all jokes. Or, at least thats what they were to Jeffrey. Maybe Jacques didn't see them as jokes, maybe he saw the former as his soulmate. Or whatever.
“Jeffery, look,” Jeffrey gets startled by Jacques talking again, “It's fine if you dont wanna be friends anymore, and you might hate me for being a, y'know— queer —but can you at least say something to make me feel better at this moment.”
“Jacques...”
Hearing Jeffery talk, in a confronting, probably angry, manner, he starts to get scared.
“I- yeah, no I'm- I'm sorry!” Jacques apologizes, pulling his hands away from the formers grip, to get up and pay for his stuff so that he could leave already.

Tomorrow felt normal, more normaler than before. Or to Jeffery it felt normal. To Jacques it felt off. Not having Jeffrey here to talk to felt off. It feels as if Jacques was a puzzle, missing a piece, maybe even more.
To Jeffrey, his life felt great, maybe even better than ever! Jacques to Jeffery, he was just a queer he met out of pittyness. He just felt bad for seeing the latter alone in all of his classes. Of course, Jacques had friends, but most of them didn't share a class with him.
But to Jacques, Jeffrey felt like more than just a friend, he would say lover, but he felt more closer to him than that. Soulmate maybe?...
