Movie night gone wrong

Summary:

Seonghwa knew he was easily scared, from heights to jumpscares, he always tried to avoid it. On the other hand it takes a lot more to scare Hongjoong therefore if a horror movie is played at one of their movie nights, it's chosen by Hongjoong. After one of these nights the movie ends up sticking with him more than any jumpscare.

Work Text:

“Joong I have work tomorrow, are you sure we shouldn’t watch something more lighthearted?” Seonghwa sighed, his body sinking into their plush sofa.

“It’s not even that scary. Plus it was made years ago. I even watched it with Mingi.” Hongjoong sighed, his hand pointing at the TV. “Look, we can turn it off at any point. Just say when.”

Seonghwa pulled his lips together, his eyes falling to the ground, the atmosphere was already putting him off; the late night leaving the room a deep blue, the stress of the next day's work, and already being apprehensive to scary movies.

“Fine.”

The movie was decent, a group of teens getting killed in surprisingly gruesome ways. However Hongjoong was right, the jumpscares weren’t too bad, nor were the gore that indepth.

By the time the movie came to a close, Seonghwa found himself and Hongjoong cuddling the other man’s shoulder resting on his arm. “Hey love, do you want to watch another one? The third one apparently is the best. It’s still pretty old.” He spoke, his hand running through Seonghwa’s hair.

“What’s the time?”

“Nine.”

Seonghwa let out a sigh, “Sure. Why not watch the second one though?”

“We probably should, it’s a direct continuation.” Hongjoong’s grip tightened, pulling the other closer.

Watching the movie Seonghwa could only feel himself getting more stressed, his hands tugging at the end of his cardigan. A particularly shocking death, Seonghwa couldn’t help but yelp his body stiffening as he tried to look away.

“Hwa.” Hongjoong spoke, pausing the movie as he turned to look at his partner. “Are you ok?” Seonghwa remained silent, his gaze falling to the ground. Hongjoong didn’t need to hear anything from the other to realise that the best thing to do was to call it night. Seonghwa muttered some sort of apology burying his head in the other’s shoulder. “Don’t apologise, dear, it’s fine. I’ve seen this movie so many times, I just wanted to share it with you.”

“I know. But-”

“Don’t do this baby, I know how you are with these types of these movies. We can continue during the day.” Hongjoong hummed, pressing a kiss to the man’s forehead. “Let’s just go to bed.”

Seonghwa didn’t argue, instead he just let the other lead him to the bedroom. The walk was quiet, something forced Seonghwa to remain quiet as his grip on Hongjoong tightened. He could feel the other man pause at the grip, his attention fell on him for a moment, before slipping back to their hallway. Their room was too quiet. Complete silence enveloping him outside of the pair, even their bunny remained silent despite his fussiness.

“Hwa?” A horrific scream escaped the man, his hand jolting away as if he were burned. Hongjoong just stood in front of him, a look of genuine terror and confusion stuck to his face, his hands going to clasp the others. “Darling, what’s wrong?” He guided the man to bed.

Being sat made Seonghwa realise he was shaking, his breathing speed up until bursting out into tears. Hongjoong immediately wrapped his arms around his body which only made him sob more. “Seonghwa, please talk to me. Was the movie that bad? I really didn’t mean to scare you that badly.” Seeing his pitiful expression, any strength to speak was lost as he buried his face into the crook of his neck.

Exhausting himself of his tears, he finally looked up at Hongjoong, the other man’s eyes filling with tears. “I know. It wasn’t the movie.” He paused, biting down on his lip nearly to the point of bleeding. “I guess it was. I don’t know why I got so upset I was being stupid.” He tried to shake off Hongjoong's hold instead the other man just shifted their position so that he was kneeled in front of him.

“Seonghwa, never say that you’re being stupid. Whatever you can tell me about what upset you-”

“Stop it!” He placed his hands on Hongjoong’s shoulder, forcing him to look him in the eyes. Hongjoong winced slightly, Seonghwa taking his hands off of him. “I just want to sleep.”

The other man didn’t push, he just pulled Seonghwa closer to him as he drifted to sleep. Laying next to the other man, Seonghwa’s mind refused to calm down, his nails digging into his arms as he held himself. The silence, the darkness, even the wind seemed to revert him into that stressed state.

After an unknown amount of time Seonghwa dragged himself out of bed, crossing the room he found himself reaching for his bunny, the animal softly purring in his arms as ran his hand through its fur. “Byeol, my darling…” He hummed.

“Hwa? It’s two am what’s going on?” Hongjoong crouched next to him. “I’m being serious. Let me know what’s on your mind.”

“I’m scared, Hongjoong.” His words came out desperate as if he had no more energy to feel anything else. “Not of the movie, I’m just scared of how easily life can be taken.”

Hongjoong hummed in response.

“It scares me that one day I could just lose the ones I love, no matter how stupid the reason is. I could lose you Hongjoong.” He held Byeol closer, the rabbit squirming slightly.

Hongjoong’s hands found themselves tilting his face to meet his, “You’re right, we have no control over life or death. But that means we have to make the best of the time we have.” He placed a kiss on Seonghwa's forehead.

“You’re right.” Hongjoong gave the man a warm smile pulling him into a quick embrace, “We should go to bed now.” Seonghwa muttered.

“Yeah, I’m guessing you won't be doing much at work tomorrow.” Hongjoong chuckled.

Seonghwa hummed, placing his pet back in the cage, “I’m doing as little as physically possible."

Hongjoong let out a small giggle pressing a kiss to the other’s cheek, “That doesn’t sound like making the most of your life.”

Seonghwa just pushed his shoulder with a quiet gasp, “I’m taking time for myself.” Hongjoong only rolled his eyes, pressing a kiss to the other cheek as the pair got into bed.
