Work Text:

Luffy was having so much fun tonight. He was with Zoro and Nami, and they were hopping from bar to bar, joining in on one of two activities that the island’s locals were known for, the other being piracy.

Zoro and Nami were going hard. Both of them had a high alcohol tolerance, so that was to be expected. Luffy wasn’t sure of his own tolerance level. He liked to drink, but he much prefered to eat, and food was what he focused on at every stop.

All of the bars here offered different things on their menus. Luffy ordered meat pies, burgers and slides, chicken wings, chicken tikka masala, chicken wings, yakitori, fried pickles, fried cheese curds, cheesesteak, shrimp, oysters, clams, mussels, fish and chips, crab rangoon, spring rolls, chili con carne, chili hot dogs, nachos, pizza, soft pretzels, mozzarella sticks, and so much more. Everything was so yummy!

Nami had somehow gotten every single drink of hers paid for by strangers so far, and a few of his and Zoro’s too. The people were friendly, the taps were flowing, and best of all, the dishes were served quickly. What’s not to like?

Cherry pie, apparently. At the fourth bar they visited, Luffy learned that he didn’t like the taste of it, even though he enjoyed eating fresh cherries. That was too bad. The guy who recommended the pie to Luffy was really enjoying his own. Later on, they all got kicked out for being too rowdy, and their trio and that guy parted ways amicably.

Luffy felt a pleasant buzz leaving the fifth bar. It was nice outside, a balmy night on this spring island. He walked arms linked with Zoro and Nami. They were joined at the hip, and none of them staggered in their tipsy states, not even a little bit.

Zoro developed a red flush at some point between the eighth and tenth bar. They might’ve lost count. Luffy reached up to grab his face upon noticing it. He rarely saw that happen to Zoro. It was cute. Really cute. Luffy should tell him.

“You’re so cute, Zoro!” he said, his hands cupping Zoro’s cheeks.

Zoro flushed a darker red.

“You’re adorable, Zoro!” Nami agreed, giggling. She’s been acting progressively more carefree, almost giddy, throughout the night. Luffy liked it when Nami was happy.

“Whatever,” Zoro muttered. When Nami snaked an arm around his waist, though, he let her. Luffy grinned at her, and she winked back.

The three of them didn’t know that this bar would be their last one of the night when they entered it. Inside, Luffy ordered fried chicken, and they played a drinking game involving dice with some of the other patrons, Nami sitting on Zoro’s lap. Alcohol tended to make both of them more open to initiating public displays of affection, so Luffy could have predicted that would happen. What he could not predict was them starting make out in front of everyone.

Luffy and the others laughed. Zoro and Nami really were drunk!

Things went downhill fast afterwards. Some guys picked a fight with Zoro, and Luffy would only remember later that they were some of the idiots that Nami was stringing along at the first few places they visited. Long story short, everyone in the bar got involved, and in the chaos Luffy carried his lovebirds outside to safety.

Luffy took the long way back to their ship. He had Zoro in his arms, and Zoro still had Nami in his. The street Luffy decided to walk down was much quieter, as it was more of a residential area, but it was kind of hard to see where he was going with both of them clinging onto him.

On his left was Nami. She had her hands on either side of his face, and she was kissing it over and over again, giggling all the while.

“You’re my hero, Luffy,” she said, a singsong tone in her voice. “My hero. You need to make a turn here if you want to see Merry.”

Luffy laughed and did as she told him.

“I wanted to stay,” Zoro murmured. His head was resting on Luffy’s right shoulder, and his face was in the crook of Luffy’s neck. “I wanted to take them all down.”

Luffy laughed some more. “We can do that tomorrow, alright?”

“Tomorrow is another day!” said Nami, still in that singsong voice.

“Do you promise?” Zoro asked quietly.

Luffy kissed his forehead. “Of course I do, Zoro.”

“Okay. Thank you.”

Nami led them back to the ship. There were no incidents, but if she made them go around a few circles in her drunken state, neither Luffy nor Zoro would’ve been able to tell.

Robin was in the crow’s nest when they returned. She had agreed keep guard tonight, allowing the rest of their crew to explore the island.

“It looks like you three had fun,” she said, smiling down at them.

“We did!” Luffy said, and Robin laughed.

“That’s good to hear.”

She crossed her arms over her chest. A few moments later, hands sprouted to open the door and let them below decks.

“Thanks, Robin!” Luffy said.

She waved him off, still smiling.

“Robin’s the best,” Nami said, mostly to herself. Luffy agreed.

Luffy tried to drop her off at the women’s quarters first, but she wouldn’t let go of him or Zoro.

“Stay with me,” she whined, wrapping her arms around them both.

Luffy looked from Nami to Zoro and grinned. Zoro was already fast asleep.

“Okay, we’ll stay with you, Nami,” he said. Only then did she let him put her down.

Nami and Robin had real beds, while the guys had hammocks. Luffy didn’t mind. After all, the women’s quarters used to be the captain’s quarters, but he gave it up when they first got Merry, because Nami wanted it and he didn’t want to be alone. He liked his hammock, but it was still nice every so often to sleep on a mattress.

Nami flopped onto her bed and sighed happily. Luffy laid Zoro on the bed, too, then climbed into it himself.

Nami had fallen asleep at some point, and started snoring a little. Luffy was also feeling drowsy now. He tucked her in, then curled up next to Zoro.

“Good night,” he said, to no one in particular. It has been a very good night indeed.

Soon after, he drifted off to sleep.
