Work Text:
It was really hard not to stare. It’s just there, happily wagging, flipping back and forth behind Yoo Joonghyuk. It’s really hard not to stare when Yoo Joonghyuk has dog ears and a matching tail.
The even funnier part was the fact that Yoo Joonghyuk’s expression is one of pure stoic-ness. His face is in his usual set frown and his thick eyebrows are pinched together in a look that can only be described as nonchalance. With just his face, one would think that he was pissed about something or another, but obviously, it’s clearly not the case, given that the tail attached behind him is wagging furiously.
The weird thing is that Yoo Joonghyuk’s tail had started wagging after Kim Dokja had said something. If you ask Kim Dokja, he would personally say that he didn’t even do anything to warrant such a reaction. He simply just said, ‘good job,’ and patted him on the head twice. Normally, Yoo Joonghyuk would’ve just clicked his tongue, crossed his arms, and walked away, so Kim Dokja was thoroughly surprised and enlightened to find the guy’s tail wagging happily.
After that, Kim Dokja couldn’t help it, so he started petting Yoo Joonghyuk’s hair a bit. And he couldn’t help it really, Kim Dokja wasn’t immune to a Yoo Joonghyuk with dog features, plus his hair had been soft to not rake his fingers through. Has it always been this soft?
It’s a bit to get used to but it’s not really that much different. This Yoo Joonghyuk is just more… cute. And he has dog ears. And a tail. That is still wagging. Kim Dokja didn’t even really like dogs.
Kim Dokja looks up at Yoo Joonghyuk and finds his face to look mildly constipated—an expression that he usually makes when he’s thinking hard about something. Kim Dokja has no idea what he’s thinking.
[Personal skill, ‘Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint’ stage 2 has been activated!]
‘Feels nice.’ Kim Dokja hears. ‘Why won’t my tail stop wagging?’
Kim Dokja huffs out a laugh before he turns off the skill.
“C’mon lets go back to the complex.” Kim Dokja says as he starts walking in front of Yoo Joonghyuk. Kim Dokja glances behind his shoulder, and sure enough, Yoo Joonghyuk is right behind him, following along.
“Sit,” Kim Dokja instructs Yoo Joonghyuk, pointing at the ground. He does as he is told and so Kim Dokja gives him two pats on the head.
“Stand.” Yoo Joonghyuk stands back up obediently.
“Damn, he’s really just doing whatever you’re telling him to do huh.” Han Sooyoung says as she scratches the back of her head.
She scoffs, “I bet I can even make him eat dirt in this state.” She crouches down to scoop a pile of dirt into her hand before she stands back up and shoves it into Yoo Joonghyuk’s face. “Now, eat it.”
Yoo Joonghyuk just glares at her, as if saying seriously.
“Eat it, I command thee to eateth thy dirt.” She shoves her hand into his face some more so that the dirt covers his mouth. “Go. Seriously, eat it. And then choke and die.”
Kim Dokja cringes a bit; did she seriously have to give him dirt of all things, it brings back unpleasant memories that he would rather not remember. “Don’t eat it, Yoo Joonghyuk.”
Yoo Joonghyuk’s ears perk up at the sound of his voice and he just turns his attention to Kim Dokja. Then, his tail starts wagging again, all while his face still upholds his usual stoic expression. It’s extremely difficult, but Kim Dokja tries his best not to smile or look too smug at the fact that Yoo Joonghyuk is only listening to his commands.
“Yeah, and I bet you want to hear Kim Dokja say ‘good boy’ to you too or something.” She mocks while dusting the dirt off of her hands. One of her fingers makes its way in front of Yoo Joonghyuk, trying to prod at him, poke at him, or whatever the hell else Han Sooyoung wanted to do.
But before Han Sooyoung could tease him, Yoo Joonghyuk growls. He fucking growls, teeth bared and everything. It is a little bit scary, but it is actually kind of cute too—the kind of cute that a baby cat has when it's hissing and trying to make itself look scary.
Han Sooyoung yelps back and quickly retracts her fingers before they get chopped off by the sharpness of Yoo Joonghyuk’s canines.
“Okay! Oh my god,” her face is pure bewildered disgust. “He really is a fucking dog now.” She turns to look at Kim Dokja, “good luck dealing with this guy, I’m leaving.”
Then in midday tryst she sends, ‘be sure to take some pictures, I might need some for blackmail for when he is fully himself.’ Kim Dokja stares at the message for a while before he sends a thumbs-up emoji. He too would like to take some pictures of Yoo Joonghyuk in this state, simply just for blackmail material, and totally not for any other reasons.
So he does take pictures of him and Yoo Joonghyuk doesn’t stop him. In fact, Kim Dokja would say that he might be actually enjoying it because of the tail wagging behind him.
It really is very unfortunate that he is extremely cute like this. He gives two more pats just because he can.
He might be very, very weak to this kind of Yoo Joonghyuk.
Yoo Joonghyuk is just following him around expectantly. He doesn’t say anything, or do anything really, just follows Kim Dokja as if he were waiting for something.
He’s not really bothering Kim Dokja though, so he doesn’t say anything about it and just lets Yoo Joonghyuk do… whatever it is that he is doing. Should it be concerning?
“Why’s he just following you around like that,” Jung Heewon asks him, one eyebrow raised questioningly.
“Don’t worry he’s probably harmless.” He thinks back to when Yoo Joonghyuk almost bit Han Sooyoung’s finger off. “Okay, he is harmless for the most part, maybe.”
“Do you need me to like, knock him out, or something?”
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ objects to her incarnation.]
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ says that she wants to see more of this dog-like Yoo Joonghyuk.]
Jung Heewon looks up at the messages that popped up. “Dog-like?” she mutters under her breath and then goes to look back at Yoo Joonghyuk staring at Kim Dokja. “Oh, what the hell?! When did he get all of that?” She bursts out laughing.
Yoo Joonghyuk doesn’t answer; in fact, it doesn’t seem like he really cares, he just stares at Kim Dokja with what could only be called ‘puppy dog eyes,’ his face is full of yearning.
“I have no clue. I just found him outside one day,” he tells her. “If you ask me, I think he failed some sort of scenario and this was the penalty. He was probably looking for some secret piece or something without me, that bastard.”
He looks up to meet Yoo Joonghyuk’s eyes to scold him for going into a sub scenario without him, but Yoo Joonghyuk’s stare is just too intense so Kim Dokja quickly looks away.
Jung Heewon moves closer to Yoo Joonghyuk and hovers her hand close to one of his ears. “Are they real?”
“They should be.” He reaches over to feel Yoo Joonghyuk’s ear. It feels real alright. And because he can’t help it, he brings his fingers over to scratch a bit behind his ears. Suddenly, movement from behind Yoo Joonghyuk’s back causes him to look down and Kim Dokja is greeted with the lovely sight of the guy’s tail wagging once again.
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ is squealing with happiness.]
“It can even do this kind of stuff too?”
“Yeah, it happens a lot actually. It might be some kind of side-effect or something that makes it wag so much.” Kim Dokja gently pats Yoo Joonghyuk’s head twice before he pulls away.
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ asks if you could pat him again.]
He doesn’t know why Uriel asks him of this, but he decides that it would be harmless. He’s done it a bunch of other times before so he doesn’t think Yoo Joonghyuk would mind. Though, by the look on Yoo Joonghyuk’s face it looks like he is about to snap at any second. Kim Dokja gives him one more pat anyway.
Yoo Joonghyuk’s tail wags a bit faster.
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ says she is extremely happy.]
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ donates 500 coins!]
It seems like Uriel is enjoying this as well, truly premium content for the star stream.
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ asks if you can call Yoo Joonghyuk a good boy.]
Okay, he’s not about to go that far. Kim Dokja flushes a bit, he doesn’t think he can even say that out loud.
“Good– good Joonghyuk-ie.” He ends up saying and he might as well just die and never come back. He can’t even bring himself to say whatever Uriel had asked of him; can’t utter those two words of ‘good boy’.
Yoo Joonghyuk’s tail wags and Kim Dokja can see the tips of his ears turn red too. It’s such a strange sight seeing this extremely buff man look like this. It’s a bit silly.
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ screams loudly.]
[Constellation, ‘Demonic Judge of Fire’ says she can’t contain her excitement!]

“Hey, do you think we can find whatever scenario he did and make Hyungsung fail it too?” Jung Heewon suddenly interjects. “I wanna see what he would look like with a tail too.”
“Okay, Yoo Joonghyuk, now bark.”
The man just blinks at him, “I am not doing that,” he speaks for the first time since he got cursed with the penalty of the sub-scenario. It wasn’t unusual for Yoo Joonghyuk to not speak for long periods of time, but it was getting strange that he hadn’t spoken any words in a few days.
“Ah, so you can speak,” Kim Dokja smirks and laughs a little inside his head because Yoo Joonghyuk did technically bark. What a good dog.
Yoo Joonghyuk scowls at him. “Of course I can speak. Did y–”
“Ah, ah, ah,” Kim Dokja wags his finger in front of Yoo Joonghyuk, “no yapping.”
Yoo Joonghyuk closes his mouth quickly. It’s unexpected.
They stare at each other for a bit, and the silence stretches.
Sweat trickles down the back of his neck, “I was just joking, Yoo Joonghyuk, you can speak whenever. You can do whatever.”
It’s silent for a second longer before Yoo Joonghyuk scoffs and speaks up. “I know that.” He crosses his arms, “I am doing ‘whatever.’”
Kim Dokja thinks back to every single interaction he’s had with this new version of Yoo Joonghyuk. From since he found him all alone in the forest crouching beside a rock—too embarrassed to have the other party members see him—to now where he’s sitting in front of Kim Dokja, this Yoo Joonghyuk has been practically following every single one of Kim Dokja’s ‘commands.’
You’re telling me that you have been doing all of this willingly!? Kim Dokja thinks to himself. He can’t believe it, he really can’t, because the only reasonable explanation that Kim Dokja could come up with for why Yoo Joonghyuk has been listening to him when he normally wouldn’t is because it must’ve been some sort of side-effect to that scenario penalty.
“All of this has been on your own accord?”
Yoo Joonghyuk’s ears flatten from where they are sat up on his head. He looks away from Kim Dokja’s gaze, “yes.”
What the hell. Kim Dokja thinks.
“What the hell,” Kim Dokja says out loud. “Why?”
Kim Dokja doesn’t need the visual tells of what Yoo Joonghyuk is thinking then to help him understand what Yoo Joonghyuk is feeling, because he can now tell based off of how a slight pink hue tints his cheeks, looking a bit flustered. The sight is unbelievable.
“Your hand feels nice.” he hears Yoo Joonghyuk say under his breath a bit too fast for Kim Dokja to understand, but he heard it nonetheless. He swears he heard him say that.
But that can’t be right, can it? Surely Kim Dokja heard wrong.
“Huh?”
“I like it when you put your hand in my hair.” Yoo Joonghyuk says, quiet.
Kim Dokja pretends not to hear that, because he doesn’t know what he would do if he dare acknowledge it.
One day, Yoo Joonghyuk’s ears and tail disappear and Kim Dokja is not sulking. No, of course he does not miss them, he’s just… not used to seeing the top of Yoo Joonghyuk’s be so empty or not seeing that familiar tail attached from behind Yoo Joonghyuk.
“So you really don’t remember anything at all from that time?” Kim Dokja asks hesitantly. It’s kind of a shame. No, it’s definitely a shame; he misses the tail already.
“I don’t remember.” He hears Yoo Joonghyuk speak as his eyebrows pinch together to make his face look like he’s constipated.
“Well good thing I have photos then,” he says as he brings up his phone.
“No.”
“Ah, but I’m just trying to jog up your memories, Joonghyuk-ie.”
“I don’t need to remember.”
Kim Dokja sighs. It sounds like he is lying. Tsk tsk, bad dog.
“Don’t worry Yoo Joonghyuk,” Kim Dokja says before he pats the man’s head. “You’re still cute without your dog features.”
He feels Yoo Joonghyuk lean into the touch a bit, so Kim Dokja decides to weave his hands through the strands of Yoo Joonghyuk’s hair. Eventually, he finds that the man has closed his eyes, making Kim Dokja smile a small secret smile that he hopes no one can see.
“Eh, it kind of seems like you remember this though, Yoo Joonghyuk,” he says because he can’t help but tease him a little bit.
Yoo Joonghyuk opens his eyes and glares at him.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Hmm,” Kim Dokja hums before he tucks some loose strands of hair behind Yoo Joonghyuk’s ear, and then takes away his hands from his head and puts them in the pockets of his white coat. “But it seems like you do though?”
Yoo Joonghyuk watches the movement of his hands and frowns. Kim Dokja sees one of the guy’s hands twitch, as if wanting to reach out.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” His Yoo Joonghyuk really is so very helpless.
“Alright then,” he turns on his heel to leave, but suddenly feels a large hand wrap around his wrist, stopping him from going anywhere. Kim Dokja feels his lips lift into a smirk.
He turns around and looks up at Yoo Joonghyuk, who is simply staring at him. His mouth opens and closes, trying to say something, but ending up not saying anything at all. His thick eyebrows furrow and he eventually closes his mouth so that they are set in a thin line. Then he lets go of Kim Dokja’s wrist.
“So you did want to see those photos of you after all then.” Kim Dokja grins up at him.
“No.” Yoo Joonghyuk swallows and Kim Dokja doesn’t stare at how his adam’s apple bobs. “Kim Dokja.”
And Kim Dokja just waits.
He doesn’t say anything, but Yoo Joonghyuk grabs a hold of Kim Dokja’s hands and places them on his cheeks so that his palms gently cradle his face. Kim Dokja doesn’t say anything either as he caresses his thumbs slowly, looking into Yoo Joonghyuk’s eyes to try to see what kind of emotion can be found in there. It’s one of pure fondness, as well as hints of irritation and want. Yoo Joonghyuk has beautiful eyes, Kim Dokja finds.
He hears Yoo Joonghyuk inhale a breath in before he feels lips being pressed against his own.
It’s a soft kiss, one that Kim Dokja doesn’t think he’s worthy of receiving, but it feels nice and Kim Dokja doesn’t want Yoo Joonghyuk to pull away. He lets one of his hands go from where it was caressing Yoo Joonghyuk’s face and tugs the man closer to him by clutching the lapel of his signature black coat in his hand in a tight grip. His other hand sneaks it’s way past Yoo Joonghyuk’s face and behind his neck, gripping the curly strands of his hair.
Eventually, Kim Dokja does have to pull away because he can’t breathe, and he does so begrudgingly. Yoo Joonghyuk looks good like that, with his perfect hair all disheveled and messed up. He’s not distracted.
“Kim Dokja,” Yoo Joonghyuk breathes out, breathless. The puffs of hot air reach Kim Dokja because of how close they are to one another and it makes him feel a little dizzy.
Yoo Joonghyuk brings his face to the nape of Kim Dokja’s nape and breathes him in, then he wraps his arms around his waist in a semblance of a hug. It’s fairly cute, because Kim Dokja can still imagine the way that Yoo Joonghyuk’s tail would wag in happiness.
They stay like that for a bit longer after that, he doesn’t know how long it’s been with them just enjoying the presence of one another. Suddenly he feels Yoo Joonghyuk’s lips graze his neck before he feels the slight pressure of teeth biting into his skin.
“Ow ow,” It doesn’t hurt at all, actually, “Maybe you are still a dog afterall.” He can’t help but tease him.
Yoo Joonghyuk bites him a little harder after that. It makes Kim Dokja laugh; he’s really ridiculous.
