Kiss Me First

Summary:

Satoru giving Suguru cheek kisses and sending Suguru in a spiral.

Work Text:

Suguru and Satoru were always physically affectionate with each other. It’s just how they were. It was rare to see one and not the other. Since they were so close, they naturally liked to be affectionate with each other in various ways. Satoru always leaned on Suguru or had his arms draped around his shoulder. Suguru liked to pet Satoru’s head and call him pet names. They always got confused when people assumed they were dating, but they never denied it either. It never bothered them and they couldn’t find it in themselves to care about the labels people placed on their relationship. To be frank, they secretly liked being perceived as a couple but they would never admit that to each other.

It was a boring day at their shared apartment where Suguru made breakfast for the both of them as usual. He always made an extra pancake for Satoru because he loved them so much. Before Satoru sat down at the table, he leaned over and gave Suguru a quick peck on his cheek. This startled Suguru and made his brain go completely blank. Before he could even mutter a response, Satoru was demolishing his plate, humming softly after each bite. It wasn’t weird for them to give each other a quick peck, but it was rare for Satoru to initiate it. Suguru isn’t sure when this started, possibly after a mission and Suguru was relieved that Satoru made it out with no life-threatening injuries. He remembers giving him a small kiss near his temple, whispering about how reckless Satoru was and how he was glad that he wasn’t hurt too badly. That might’ve been the shift into their physical affection. Since Satoru was sheltered growing up he wasn’t used to this kind of affection, he stood for a moment and then his ears turned so red they looked like strawberries. He tried to pretend that he wasn’t embarrassed, but Suguru saw right through him. Ever since then, he’s continued giving Satoru small pecks near his temple after a mission.

This was the first time Satoru kissed him. Well, on his cheek, but still. It was a huge milestone for Suguru. They continued to eat their breakfast and Suguru couldn’t wipe the kiss from his mind. It happened just moments ago, but it kept playing in his head on a loop. Satoru grabbed their dishes and began washing them, then making his way to the couch to watch some soap operas (Shoko put him on). He beckoned Suguru to come cuddle with him, he listened without hesitation and let Satoru lay his head in his lap while placing the blanket over him so he could be warm.

They lazed around all day, just enjoying each other’s company til it was time to get ready for bed. They had separate rooms, but most times they ended up sleeping in the same bed. It never mattered which room, as long as they were together. Satoru walked into Suguru’s room with an oversized Digimon shirt and Suguru’s sweatpants (he liked how baggy they fit, how can you blame him?). His hair was nice and fluffy and he had the cutest tired smile on his face. He crawled over to Suguru, who was sitting up and reading some boring novel, when Satoru propped himself up and kissed him again on the cheek. Initiating a cheek kiss is one thing, but two? Suguru was a dead man. “I came for my goodnight kiss.” He paused for a while before he pressed his lips against his cheek for the third time that day. “Goodnight, Suguru.” His voice was unusually soft and there was a kiss mark left on his cheek due to Satoru’s tinted lip balm. He left Suguru’s room and was on his way to bed. Suguru was completely stunned. He was going to have a hard time sleeping after that.

Three kisses in one day? Something had to be wrong. Suguru has zero complaints, but many concerns.

It’s been a few weeks and Suguru still can’t get used to Satoru kissing his cheek at any given moment. In the morning, before work, after work, and especially before bed. He feels like a husband that comes home to his pretty wife everyday. He loves every second of it. His heart is practically dancing in his chest. Suguru always gets too stunned to even react or get the chance to reciprocate. He wanted to so badly, but Satoru was quick to dart out of the room before he got the chance. They never discuss it either. Like it’s become a part of their routine and there was no point in talking about it. The thing is, Suguru wanted to talk about it because he began wanting more. More than cheek kisses and more than simple touches that could be written off as friendly affection. He liked Satoru, but he also liked Satoru’s safety.

Satoru has always been protective of himself and it took a while for him to warm up to Suguru’s friendly touches. He loved the fact that Satoru started to trust him and he never wanted to do anything to break that trust. The fact that Satoru saw him as someone who is safe meant the world to him. Sometimes Suguru gets into his own head and creates outrageous scenarios that make him worried about facing Satoru with his feelings. He was just a man in love and scared to make mistakes. He hoped that one day he’d be brave enough to tell him the truth, but he was so scared of the outcome.

While Suguru was spiraling, Satoru was concerned as to why his best friend wasn't kissing him on the mouth. He read tons of cheesy romance manga to understand that if someone gives you a kiss on the cheek that obviously means they want to kiss on the lips. So why hasn’t Suguru manned up and kissed him already? Satoru was worried that he went too far with the whole physical touch thing, but if he did Suguru would’ve said something. Satoru wasn’t the best with words but he thought his actions could speak for him. Clearly they’re not loud enough. He had to be an adult about this and from what he gathered in romance manga, it was best to write a letter. Or at least, attempt to.

It was hard putting all of his feelings into words. Suguru is very important to him and he wanted to make that known. He was always patient with him and indulged him in his shenanigans. They were like two peas in a pod, he considered him his one and only. He loved Suguru from the moment they met. He was someone who saw Satoru as a person and not something to control. He never wanted anything from Satoru, except his company. He loved how Suguru made him feel like something more than a name. He also loved the fact that Suguru would spoil him. Even though he had the money, Suguru would go out of his way and buy things he thought Satoru would like. He was so kind and loving to him, it was impossible not to fall.

Satoru spent most of his day in his room conjuring up the perfect love letter. He’s never done something like this before and kept rewriting it over and over. He was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to stuff he wanted to excel at and he wanted this love letter to blow Suguru away. He used his fancy paper and brand new pens, then sealed his letter into a light blue envelope. The only problem now was when should he give it to him? After a lot of hesitation, he decided to give Suguru the letter immediately and get the hard part over with. Luckily for him, Suguru was already about to knock on his door.

“There you are. I got worried because you were cooped up in your room all day.” He had such a sheepish smile, while waiting for Satoru to let him in. He did and was a little antsy. “I’ve been working pretty hard.” He hurried out. “On what, baby?” God, he loved when Suguru called him baby. He never got sick of all the pet names he liked to call him. Before he could say another word, he shoved the envelope in Suguru’s hand and tried to rush out the room but Suguru got a hold of wrist, gently pleading for him to stay put.

“What’s this? You wrote me a love letter, sweetheart?” He teased. The silence was a clear enough answer. Satoru held his hands behind his back and was looking everywhere except at Suguru. Suguru had a surprised look on his face as he opened the letter. It was a legitimate love letter written in glitter pen.

Dear Suguru,

What will it take for you to kiss me? I’ve been wondering this for weeks and I just want you to hurry up and kiss me. I’m not sure how you feel about me, but I’ve loved you since we were freshmen in high school. I love everything about you. From how you style your hair, for your gentle way of speaking, and how much you care for me. You always make sure to check on me and treat me as if I’m something fragile, something worthy of your affection. I can’t get over how you call me your “sweet boy” and how soft you are with me even when I get on your nerves. I want to be enough for you. I want to be yours. Please let me. We never talked about our types, but I’m hoping you’ll consider dating someone like me.

Always Yours, Satoru.

He signed it off with a pink kiss mark in the bottom corner. He sprayed the letter with some kind of coconut or vanilla perfume. It was so cheesy and so endearing. As he read the letter, Suguru couldn’t hide his huge smile. He closed Satoru in and grabbed both sides of his face as he kissed him. The kiss was a little rushed, but oh so gentle. Satoru whimpered as he opened his mouth to taste more of Suguru. It was such a clumsy kiss, but that’s what made it special. “You idiot. Of course I love you.” He said in between kisses. “Don’t ever think you have to be worthy of my affection. I love you with everything I have and more.” He was practically devouring Satoru’s mouth while pouring all of his feelings into him. “You’re so cute, writing me this cheesy love letter. I’ll give you whatever you want. My kisses, my heart, everything. I’ll always be yours, I should be asking you to be mine.”

They continued kissing like their lives depended on it, Suguru murmuring soft promises and I love you over and over again. “I love you, sweetheart. Don’t ever think you’re not enough for me.”

After calming down a bit, Satoru kissed him one last time on the cheek. He felt relieved that his feelings were reciprocated and relieved that he finally belonged to Suguru. It wasn’t about ownership, he just liked the person he was when he was with his one and only. He hoped they could spend forever together and he was going to make sure that happened. No matter what it took, he was going to have his happy ending with Suguru by his side.
