Work Text:
Orange has always been a color that speaks the richness and the beautiful aspect of human relationship.
It is a color that Martin deeply feels a connection to, since his own heart always yearns for any kind of relationship, romantic or not.
It reminds him of the sun. when the sun rises and cast an ethereal orange streaks through the blinds, when the sun is up there blazing in the middle of the day, when the sun drift down and hide behind mountains as a sign of the end of the day. It means that time is always forward, that new memories will always keep being created infinitely.
It's… unforgettable, absolutely memorable. How the color orange always reminds him of the sun. How the color reminds him of beautiful greetings and introduction to a new page of life. How the color deeply resonate with his being as a whole.
… Until James greeted him, first time in the morning before the shooting for their music video.
Martin's eyelids blink once, he seems like he's back from his short visit to the reverie. He looks up, and the first thing he noticed is the color orange. Literally.
"What do you think?"
James chuckled a bit, a small huff of a breath. His fingers carding through those ginger streaks of his as he lightly shook his head. The sun is also pulling it's own repetitive routine, which is casting pretty orange hue. That same hue is directed towards James in the current moment, peeking from the blinds. It feels just like the sun recognizes it's own kin and decided to give it a warm kiss.
The others are in the distance; not far, never. Juhoon is chilling on the couch, Seonghyeon is playing his phone; most probably replying to Weverse comments like he always do in his passing time, and Keonho is meddling with his own hair - perhaps James had already showed him his new hairstyle, since it looks like James is, intentionally or not, gave Keonho some inspirations regarding how would he style his hair someday.
A snap of fingers made Martin focuses on the subject in front of him rather than the background. James raised his eyebrows, his eyes locked with Martin's. "Did you even sleep last night?"
Martin shook his head, not as an answer but rather to shake off the distractions. He took a moment to close his eyes, before opening it; looking once again towards James' stunning ginger hair.
Oh.. Martin definitely should make an appointment with a doctor for his eyesight because just now, he really mistakes James as the sun.
"Oh, right. Your hair." He finally uttered some words out. "It looks good on you."
It's.. Basic, but sufficient. Their dynamic are exactly like that, anyways. So it always is enough, enough to carve a small yet genuine smile out of James' lips.
But Martin was wondering, has been wondering about one thing about all this. There's always a motive behind every doings, always a meaning behind a saying. The change in James' hairstyle is quite sudden, perhaps because James rarely tell the others about what is he planning to do next. And Martin always has been curious about the choice of style, about James.
"Why orange?"
James is carding through his stands of hair as he looks slightly up, looking or perhaps trying to remember the reason. But then he just shrugged. "Don't know, thought that it'll look cool."
Martin, who has the habit of gazing to the morning sun through the window every day, caught himself staring at James. Hands propped up with his own cheek resting on it, lips parted and closing like he wants to say something but can't decide on what words he should voice out. Like.. No words could describe what he wants to convey.
"Yeah, it looks cool."
That morning, Martin realized that he no longer need to squint to hold the sun in his gaze.
