Chapter Text
If it's true what they say
If there's nothing to be done
Orpheus entered the palace, glittering walls with shining chandeliers and dancers waltzing around. The Snows really knew how to party, especially for an engagement. “Keep your head low and look at nobody”. His adoptive father’s words ran in him before he came.
A stupid mission, he told himself. Why wasn’t his friend there themselves to get their love back to them. Why must I be here? “Hey sonny, where do you come from?” A voice called, with a big capital accent. Orpheus turned around. A man around his age, with tanned skin and blond hair looked at him.
“I come from District 2.” Orpheus responded, giving him a good look down. “Does the wealthy of Panem always tan down in District 4?” Orpheus asked, causing him to laugh. “Oh no, I got it from my ma. She was the winner of the 10th games.” Ah, the snow span. Those gold diggers, pretending to care and than betraying at the last second. “I heard about Mrs. Snow’s victory, my pa watched her games as well. He said he sang like a songbird.” Orpheus says complimenting his mother. “Your pa also watched the games?” The blondie asked. “Yes, uh she was very loved in District 2, her songs were very popular, in 2. In fact, she would visit when I was a boy.” Orpheus said panicking. “Cassius, who are you talking too?” The president said with his wife next to him. Ah, the man himself, why did pa fall for him. “Father, this is-what’s your name again?” Cassius it seemed asked. “Uh Orpheus, I’m from 2.” Snow looked confused. “Crassus, why did you invite someone from 2?” He asked, disgusted that his son would dare to betray him like that. “Uhm- we became-uh friends when- I was training-there.” Cassius said saving the both of them. Snow just nodded. “2, I heard good things about 2.”
“Yes, we have a strong military.” Orpheus said, panicking. “Are you planning to be a peacekeeper sonny?” Snow asked him, trying to see if he would crack his facade. What is up with the Snows calling me sonny? “No Mr. Snow.”
“Sugar, you seem to be quite hungry, do you what some cake?” Mrs. Snow asked. She looked like Cassius if he was a woman who seen everything from murder to a capital party. She had a very sweet voice. “Oh no, Mrs. Snow. I’m quite full. My pa made sure I had some food on my trip.” Orpheus said embarrassed. “Cassius, son, come. Your fiancee is wait for you.” Snow said to him. Oh that’s why I came. I forgot. Right, I’m his lover’s friend. That foolish boy. In love with a Snow.
“You can make yourself at home sonny.” Snow said to him before all three disappeared.
Orpheus took the time to grab a drink of some sparkling wine amongst the dancers.
