Chapter Text

The sun glistened down on the kids, all of them basking in the beauty of what they called “Lynette Storytime”. These often happened during golden hour, whenever the kids were the sleepiest, and always under a tree. Masses of children' s bodies clustered together to listen to their shy older sister tell them a heartwarming story of some rabbit and a dog.

“Uh… I’m sorry to interrupt storytime, but father’s asking for you, Lynette… I’ll take over from here…” Freminet muttered out, cutting through the calming voice of their sister. Lynette bounced to her feet and handed over the book she had within her hands, she smiled to Freminet and muttered out a “Thank you,”

Lynette’s feet skidded past the empty, messy rooms of her siblings, before her eyes rested on a very dramatic door at the end of the hallway, Lynette was unsure of her purpose for being called down, however if Father was the one who called Lynette down, it wasn’t something to be ignored.

Lynette’s tail flicked while she walked quietly down the hall, her heels making a faint click noise among the relative silence of the Hearth. Today was a good day to be outside, the sun was shining warm, but not blazing. Lynette knocked on the door twice, awaiting her sign for entry.

“Come on in, Lynette!”

Lynette jumped at the sound of her very loud brother, not expecting him to be the one to answer her knock. Lynette gently pushed open the door (DDLC REF???). There, her brother and father both sat, likely awaiting her presence.

Lyney had to admit he was very nervous about what the outcome of this meeting would be. Father sat at the other end of the desk, her natural resting face on, giving no clues about what was to come.

Little did they know that in a few weeks they would be in a different country, learning about magic. With a bunch of kids their age.

~~

“UGHHHHHhHHHhHHHhH! Why is the history of magic so hard?? I mean, it would be simpler if this book wasn’t written completely in riddles!”

“You’re just an idiot, brother.”

“Why can’t you be on my side? AND WHY IS IT SO EASY FOR YOU??”

“Have you ever thought that may be because you're just so bad at it?”

Lyney and Lynette had been bickering while doing their studying for Hogwarts for hours on end. The kids were getting slightly worried, wondering if once they got to that age that they too would have to study as vigorously.

Lyney was just about done with the worksheet Father had given him, whenever he received a text, this one being sent by father, reminding him to eat lunch… that reminded Lyney that he hadn’t eaten all day. He really needed to get better at eating on time, or else he would pass out on missions.

Lyney silently left the twins’ shared room, unlike him to be so quiet, Lynette assumed it had something to do with his eating habits from a glance she had stolen at his phone, or he was just tired of social interaction. He quietly made it down the halls, smiling faintly while he passed by his siblings' rooms.

Heading towards the kitchen, suddenly all the food felt deeply uninteresting to the magician, however Lyney knew he had to eat something. He picked up a small banana before peeling it and eating it up. It wasn’t much, but it was more than nothing, right?

The flavor of the banana lingered on the magician’s tongue, not one that he particularly enjoyed.

Lyney snuck back to his room to continue his studies, so far he was great at casting spells, to be expected of Fontaine’s greatest magician. He pulled the sweater he had on off of his body, tossing it across the room into his laundry bin. Lyney threw himself onto his bed, finding that he accidentally landed on Rosseland. After profusely apologizing to the cat, Lyney continued his studies with the feline in his lap.

Lynette looked over once before continuing her own work. Lynette’s only concern about going to this new school would be the fact that her and Lyney wouldn’t share a dorm room. Even if they got the same house, they were opposing genders, and it would never work out well with the staff, despite them being siblings.

~~

Lyney dragged a suitcase down the stairs of the hearth with slight effort, it really was hard when he didn’t rely on magic to solve everything. On the couch sat a man cloaked in black. Lyney could only vaguely hear of the conversation between the man and his Father.

“I’ll admit that I had a bit of trepidation about letting my children go with you, but now seeing you in person really helps me know they will be safe. Thank you so much for accepting them.”

“It is no problem, miss. I shall see that they are both taken to Hogwarts safely.”

Lyney froze. He knew the hour was coming, but he didn’t know it would be this soon. He didn’t want to leave the hearth. So, as he rushed through the halls trying to say goodbye to his siblings, he had at least five children clinging to his black shorts whenever he made it to the door.

Lynette was not spared from the attack of the children, she was left with two clinging to her skirt, and Freminet hugging her and Lyney like he would never see them again.

“Okay, now I’ve really got to go! The professor’s waiting outside for me!”

“AWW! PLEASE STAY WITH US LYNEY!!”

“YEAH! DON’T LEAVE!”

“Sorry kiddos, I’ve got to go, but I’ll be back for the holidays!”

Lyney was about to tear up just leaving the kids. He straightened up however whenever Father came to say her fairwell.(No he didn’t, he cant be straight.)

“Goodbye Lyney, Lynette. The hearth will not be the same without you two.”

Lyney and Lynette softly murmured out a goodbye in sync. Lyney turned to take Lynette’s hand and she graciously put her gloved one in her brothers’ as they walked out together. Lyney couldn’t help but swing their conjoined hands like they did as kids.

~~

Snape was waiting for them at the exit of the hearth, shady as always. Whenever they appeared down the path of exit, the man relaxed himself and brought out a wand to assist in getting them all out of there and to the Hogwarts Express.

“Grab my hand kids.”

“That sounds really weird out of context.”

“Shut up, brother.”

“Fiiiiine.”

A huff of a sigh escaped the professor’s lips, these would be quite interesting kids.

Lyney and Lynette each took one of the professor’s hands. The experience that followed could only be described as how it felt for Lynette to be turned to bubbles. The transportation left them both feeling energized.

Lyney immediately started memorizing the feeling so he could replicate it during their performances. Lynette felt slightly disorientated, however Lyney just felt like an excited ball of energy.

“Here you go. Just run at the wall and board the train. I’ll see you both in classes.”

“Okay!! Thanks for the ride!”

“Yeah, sure kid.”

Lyney waved the professor off, then turned to Lynette and grabbed her hand, already dragging them to the stone wall, he let go of Lynette before he rammed himself into the wall, completely expecting it to take him where he needed to go.

Unfortunately for Lyney, the wall he rammed himself into was 9 ¼, not 9 ¾.

“You really are an idiot, brother.”

“Ow!”

Lyney felt a bandaid press against his forehead where he had scraped it, Lyney was grateful to have a sibling like Lynette. She pulled him to his feet and gently pulled him through the correct gateway.

The only thing Lyney could feel while being pulled through was absolute joy, even if his head hurt like lava was being poured onto it, he was still fascinated by the magical world.
