Work Text:
It was… well, Simon wasn’t exactly sure what time it was, but whatever. It was far too late for Grace to be bustling around the lab. Simon yawned and rubbed his eyes, standing in the doorway for a moment, just watching.
Grace seemed to be preparing a needle for something. A shot, maybe? Holy fuck what was he doing. “Angel?” He asked, trying to conceal the concern in his voice. What if he was testing some weird thing on himself? What if it went wrong or killed him or something? Grace looked up.
“Oh, hey!” Simon stared at him. “What are you doing?” He furrowed his brow. “Because you better not be testing some weird chemical on yourself, because I swear to god if you accidentally kill yourself–”
Grace burst out laughing. “No, I’m just doing my testosterone shot!” They stood in silence for a moment.
“...Your what.” Nobody did anything like this back on Eden. What the hell was testosterone? Was it medicine for Grace’s autism or something? That didn’t make sense. Grace hopped down from a stool and placed the shot on the counter, walking over to Simon.
“I’m pretty sure I told you I was trans already? Or did I forget, because if so, now you know.” No response.
“What do you mean?”
Grace thought for a moment. “Well, the simple answer is that when I was born, I was a girl. And had ‘girl parts’ or whatever. But I was actually a boy, and Testosterone is a hormone that leads to more male… genes? In your body? And I’m really glad I had some with me, because it’s really hard to get since being trans is pretty hard and– Sorry, I’m tired. I’ll explain it better tomorrow.”
Simon was silent again. “I thought that was all boys. That’s not common on Earth?”
Grace stared at him. “It’s pretty rare. Definitely not everyone. Wait–” He stared at Simon. You–”
“I don’t have a penis, if that’s what you’re asking.” Silence. And then Grace started to laugh. “And to think I was nervous about telling you!”
