Convention Tickets

Summary:

You find out there's going to be a Ruri-Chan panel at a convention near where you grew up. Of course you have to take Levi!

Notes:

Another request from Tumblr! I have never been to a convention myself so I did my best lol. Enjoy!

Work Text:

Leviathan was the epitome of an otaku. He’d be the first to admit it. In fact, he was proud of it. His room was filled with different collections of his favorite anime and manga. Some displayed but most protected or hidden away from a certain brother. There were some other collections, but he had to live up to his otaku name. Of course the biggest collections were those of his all time favorites: The Magical Ruri Hana: Demon Girl and The Tale of the Seven Lords. Those series were Levi’s everything. Nothing else would even come close.

That was until you came along. It was no surprise that he didn’t have many friends or go out much. Talking to you changed his whole perspective on socializing. The two of you took slow steps to get him into socializing more. He still didn’t have many friends but he was doing so much better than when you first arrived in the Devildom. Some things wouldn’t change though. Hanging out in his room was still his favorite place to be. Especially if you were cuddling with him while he got to game.

That’s about what you two did just about everyday. You would scroll and occasionally chime in to whatever was happening on screen. You seemed especially engrossed in your screen that day for some reason but Levi never commented on that sort of thing. He knew he didn’t have room to talk. What did get his attention was you loudly gasping and getting up as quick as possible.

“I have to go do something! Right now!” you shouted and slammed the door behind you. Levi barely had time to react before you were gone.

What had gotten your attention was an ad for a convention. It wasn’t AnimeCon or anything but it looked decently big. The thing that got your attention was the Ruri Hana panel they would be hosting. If you didn’t get tickets now, it’d be sold out too quickly for you to bring Levi. The problem was you didn’t have any money. That and the convention was in the human world. As you stood in front of Lucifer’s door, you could tell the next month or so would be a living hell for this. But it would be worth it for your favorite otaku.

Knock knock. “Lucifer? Could I come in?”

A sigh came out from behind the door, “Come in.”

You carefully walked in. There was a massive pile of paperwork on Lucifer’s desk. Diavolo really made sure to work him to the bone. You felt a little bad for the guy. Lucifer cleared his throat before turning to you. He looked irritated but you’d seen him look more irritated before so this wasn’t exactly a sign for you to turn back.

“What is it this time? Did Mammon break something again?”

“Would I be telling you if Mammon broke something again?”

Lucifer took off his reading glasses, “I hope that you would. But I can tell this is for something else. Is everything okay?”

“Yeah! Well, okay, kind of. I wanted to see if I could borrow some money for something. I’d pay you back every cent!”

That got his attention, “You never ask for money. Are you sure everything is okay?”

“Yes I’m sure,” you took a deep breath. “I wanted to take Levi to a convention in the human world but I don’t have any money for it. I’ll do anything to make up for it, whatever you want. I just need to take Levi. Please.”

Lucifer leaned back in his seat to contemplate your request. He wasn’t exactly a generous man but here you were asking for his help. You had never been one to go back on your word before. It said a lot that you were willing to ask him for help just to take Levi to a convention. Then again, everyone knew how close the two of you were so it wasn’t a total shock. Lucifer looked back at his stack of papers.

“Anything? I could use a hand with some other matters while I work on these,” he murmured to himself.

“I can help! Just please help me take Levi to this convention. He’s going to be so excited. They’re doing a Ruri Hana panel and I can already tell he’s going to learn about it eventually. Plus if we take him you guys don’t have to listen to him whine about everyone else who gets to go?”

And just like that, Lucifer was buying the tickets and making sure that you could go to the panel. The added caveats were that you would only go the day of the panel and you would take over Lucifer’s dinner days for the month. You were relieved it was such a small price to pay. Maybe it was because you never asked him for things so you could get away with more. Whatever it was worked in your favor.

The only hard part was keeping it a surprise for Levi. With how involved with the Ruri Hana community he was, it was only a matter of time before he found out about the panel that he “wouldn’t be attending.” The panel, which had multiple voice actors for the English dub, was being promoted all over social media. Levi couldn’t scroll for five minutes without seeing another ad or a fan posting about how excited they were. It got Levi so jealous that he wouldn’t even leave his room. No one besides you was even let in.

The week before, you were staying in Levi’s room like usual. He had old episodes of Ruri Hana playing while he cried into his sheets. You were sitting next to the bathtub and gently rubbing his back. He didn’t say anything but you could tell he appreciated you being there. He always nuzzled into your touch ever so slightly. You couldn’t stand keeping the tickets a secret any longer.

“Hey Levi? I think I have something that might help.”

He looked up and gave you a slight glare, “Nothing could help. All those normies get to meet Ruri-Chan’s voice actor and I don’t.”

You rummaged around in your pocket to pull up the confirmation email on your phone, “So are we normies then? Because I think that this means we get to go too.”

Levi snatched the phone from your hand to look at the email. He read it over and over. You could even see him checking the sender to make sure it wasn’t fake. You were too nice to pull that sort of prank on him but he didn’t trust that it wasn’t one of Mammon’s scams again. Everything checked out. These were real tickets to a real convention in the human world.

“Lucifer said he’s coming with as a chaperone but-”

Levi cut you off by pulling you into a giant hug, “WE’RE GOING TO MEET RURI-CHAN!!!! This is the best surprise ever!”

Being back in the human world was always nice. You’d gotten so used to the Devildom that it was nice to be back home and feel the sun on your skin. The convention was close enough to where you grew up that you mostly knew your way around. You needed directions here and there but it wasn’t anything your phone couldn’t do. Lucifer and Levi trailed behind you as you led them through the city.

“It’s been so long since I’ve been out here! I can’t believe how much has changed…” you mumbled.

The whole time Levi wouldn’t stop talking your ear off about all the artists he knew would be there and how excited he was to go on a trip with you (even if Lucifer was going to be with you two the whole time). He was practically jumping in excitement when the convention center was in your field of vision. Levi took your hand and ran over to get in line. It was a good thing you’d gotten there early because you could already tell how packed the place was going to be later in the day.

As soon as the three of you got in, Levi was running around the place. Most people attending were cosplayers for various anime. You’d never seen Levi so social before. He had elected not to cosplay (mostly out of embarrassment) but he made sure he got enough selfies with others that it was filling his storage up by the second. His eyes lit up the second he saw someone dressed as Ruri-Chan. He seemed a bit nervous but ultimately went over to chat about the show and get another selfie. Apparently the cosplayer was also going to the panel later.

“Good job on making a friend Levi,” Lucifer commented. He’d been so silent that you almost forgot he was there with you. Levi’s face lit up red.

Next up was artist ally. You’d had enough time to save up enough to buy a few things for yourself. Levi hadn’t bought anything lately so he had plenty of money to spend on just about everything. It was like there wasn’t a booth that he didn’t hit. While you were buying a small print, Levi turned you around to show you his latest purchase.

“How’d you find matching TSL phone charms? I didn’t think anyone would be selling merch of that here.” you gratefully took the Henry phone charm from him. It was no surprise he got himself the charm for The Lord of Shadow. It looked like he already put it on his phone.

“I was surprised too! I was the first one to get The Lord of Shadow. Those normies just don’t understand how cool he is!” the charm rattled as he got excited enough to shake his hands.

The three of you walked out with many bags of purchases from various artists. Levi had the most of course. He’d managed to find art for a few series that he had yet to start collecting for as well. You had admittedly bought more than you’d planned but it was meager compared to Levi’s haul. The surprising part was that Lucifer had managed to find a few items to buy. You checked the time. Somehow it was already time for the panel.

It was a rush to the panel but you’d managed to make it just in time. Levi was so excited it looked like he was shaking. It was adorable to see him so excited for something. You’d been a bit worried since it was the English voice actors instead of the original Japanese but he didn’t seem to mind. He was still seeing Ruri-Chan’s actress. You’d never seen him happier. Lucifer sat to your other side with his arms folded. It was a bit funny seeing him there. He looked so out of place compared to the sea of otakus ready to see their favorite actors.

The panel was surprisingly interesting. You knew enough about Ruri-Chan to keep up with the questions being asked and what the topics were. Lucifer was really only paying attention when they talked about the technicals behind producing the show. Leviathan was the most engrossed though. With every question he was either nodding along or shaking his head. You had encouraged him to ask a question of his own but his introversion kept him from doing anything about it. It really was too bad because the panelists seemed to be very friendly.

After the panel it was time for lunch. Levi opted to get pizza while you went with whatever was cheapest that looked good. You were honestly surprised at how good the food was given that you’d gotten it so cheap. Of course Lucifer got a salad. It didn’t look bad by any means so you figured you couldn’t judge too hard (especially given your own meal). As soon as lunch was over, it was off to more of the convention.

One of the things you’d made sure you got to go to with Levi were the performances. There were so many cosplayers and most of them were going as different idols. Somehow Levi already had his penlight with him. He almost screamed when he heard a song by Zaramela being danced to. The only thing stopping him was being out in public around a bunch of strangers. He made sure you stuck around for the group performing one of Sucre Frenzy’s songs.

Despite how exhausted you were getting, Levi dragged you to the karaoke at the convention as well. You and Lucifer looked at each other. It was going to be hard to get Levi to ever leave. He had tons of songs cued up. Thankfully you didn’t mind listening to him. There was one song that he forced you to sing with him. It was a duet from a new anime he was checking out called Help! My Best Friend Can Only Express Himself Through Karaoke! And I Think He Likes Me! The irony of the title wasn’t lost on you.

Once the convention was wrapping up, Levi overheard someone mentioning the afterparties. If Levi had any thought about going, Lucifer immediately shut it down. He still had too much work to do that night and tomorrow to stay partying in the human world. Levi sulked but perked up when he realized it meant showing off everything you did that day.

Once you got home, you could feel the exhaustion creeping in. You briefly excused yourself to get ready for bed. Somehow you still found your way to Levi’s room after. He excitedly let you in. The collection of art he’d gotten from artist alley was splayed out on his table.

“Look how much I’m adding to my collection! Score!”

You giggled as he showed off and explained everything he got that day. His excitement was infectious but he must have noticed how tired you were getting. Levi helped you into the bathtub and laid down next to you. You just about fell asleep before you heard his voice.

“Thank you for everything today. I can’t believe you convinced Lucifer to go to the human world for a convention.”

You maneuvered yourself to face him, “It was worth it. You were so excited today. Plus I kinda owe him. Nothing big, don’t worry.”

“You did that for me?” he blushed again and mumbled something about you being a stupid normie who was too nice.

You just kissed his cheek, “Goodnight Levi. Go to bed soon.”

He held his cheek. There was no way he was going to bed anytime soon.
