Aegon wishes he'd been born a girl.
They've been sat beside each other all night whilst their families mingle and seem to make peace for the first time in years.
Aegon acts as if he and Jacaerys haven't seen each other in years, he pretends the secret letters they've sent to one another don't exist. He bites his tongue to keep from flirting. He whispers to Helaena, telling her to kick him whenever he stares too long.
Their hands linger right beside one another's. Sometimes one of them will take a sip of their drink and ‘accidentally’ put their hand on top of the others when they're done. In a step of boldness, Aegon had rested his hand atop Jacaerys’ knee underneath the table. Jace let the touch linger for a moment, before squeezing Aegon’s hand and guiding it away.
It's been nice to sit beside his secret love after so many years parted. Aegon yearns for the day his father passed and Jacaerys will have to return to the red keep alongside his mother. Then they'll always be within arms reach.
Jacaerys rises from the table to offer Helaena a dance. Aegon watches, his eyes like that of a hawk, as his wife and lover take to the floor.
The table must think him slighted. A younger, more handsome, prince has just stolen his wife away for a dance. Good, let them think such things, if anyone suspects of their relationship it would absolutely ruin Jacaerys' life.
And so Aegon watches.
From across the floor, Jacaerys spins Helaena and for a second their eyes meet. There's a softness, a sorrow, in Jacaerys’ eyes. A quiet apology. Aegon can read the want behind his eyes. He wants to dance with Aegon.
Aegon wishes he were born a girl, so then he would be the one in Jacaerys' arms.
