Work Text:
Shou opened his eyes groggily.
The hell woke me up?
He looked to his right. On his bedside table, his phone was buzzing and lighting up, illuminating the room.
Ah.
He lazily reached over and grabbed his phone. Sitting up, he looked at his homescreen that was currently being flooded with… messages?
He glanced at the clock, 3:12 AM. Great. Just great. Shou obviously wanted to be up at 3 AM. Now he was irritated.
He considered just going back to sleep and ignoring the messages until tomorrow, but the sheer amount of messages made him think otherwise, so he unlocked his phone. Despite how much he wanted to sleep.
Shou honestly didn’t know what to expect… just, not…
Ritsu.
Ritsu, of all people to be texting him at 3 AM, Ritsu, the one with perfect attendance, Ritsu, the one who didn’t stay up late, Ritsu, the, honestly, perfect child, was up at 3 in the morning, texting Shou? Wow.
He opened Ritsu’s text chat, and was immediately bombarded by a massive wall of text.

Ritsu’s eyes were very close to closing. But he wouldn’t allow himself to sleep yet. He had to finish his homework first. It was due that morning, he didn’t know why he had procrastinated getting it done for this long, he doesn’t usually procrastinate this long, procrastinate at all, really.
He heard the sound of his balcony door opening. I hope no ones breaking in, I think i’m fucked if someone broke in right now.
He turned his head towards his balcony. A familiar silhouette stepped into Ritsu’s room. Even though he couldn’t make them out exactly, due to his tiredness, he knew it was Shou.
“Jeez… you look even more tired in person. How long have you been working on that?” Shou said.
“I’m… fine. I haven’t been up that long,” Ritsu said, he was close to mumbling. “And, would you keep your voice down? I don't want you to wake up my family, or give me a headache… a bigger one, at that.”
“Riiiiight,” the way Shou said that made Ritsu know he was squinting at him, because there’d be no way that he’d be able to see him through half-lidded eyes and the low visibility of the room, even from the moonlight flooding in from the left-open curtains.
Shou looked oddly angelic. He was outlined by moonlight, the rest of him in shadow, only barely visible.
“Whatcha starin’ at, Kageyama?” Shou asked.
“Oh, uhh… nothing, I guess,” Ritsu said
“Sure it was nothing. I literally saw you staring at me,” Shou said in his usual teasing way. Ritsu was too tired to get irritated over it. “Well, let’s get you to bed before you start to lose your mind.”
“Shou… I’m fine.” Ritsu was trying to piece together sentences that weren't just mumbling, or incoherent messes of words.
Shou looked oddly surprised for a split second. Why was that? Had Ritsu said something? I guess he shouldn’t worry about that now…
“Yeah, you already told me that you’re ‘fine,’ now you need to go to bed,” Shou said. He was closer to Ritsu now. Since when had he stepped forward?
“I did…? When… was that?” Ritsu said. God, he hoped he didn’t sound like a loser right now.
“Over text, like 7 minutes ago,” Shou said. “Does your memory get worse when you’re tired? Wow, thats funny as fuck.”
Shou laughed, Ritsu liked his laugh.
“Has anyone told you that your laugh is nice?” Ritsu said.
“What- no?” Shou said. He was now close enough to where Ritsu could make out a confused grin on shou’s face. When had he gotten even closer? He was standing right beside Ritsu now.
“Can you get up yourself, or are you too tired for that?” Shou teased.
“Just because I might be slightly tired from not going to sleep at my usual time doesn’t mean my legs are broken,” Ritsu said.
“Wow, I’m surprised you agreed that easily, and still have the energy to give me sass,” Shou said.
Ritsu pushed his chair out from his desk and stood, making sure he wouldn’t fall over, he turned to face Shou.
“I really don’t get why you’re…” Ritsu yawned. “...here.”
“Do you remember nothing from earlier when we texted?” Shou questioned teasingly.
“...Not really, no,” Ritsu said.
“I’m gonna have SO much fun teasing you about that later,” Shou giggled.
Ritsu didn’t really have the energy to respond, so, instead, he just turned and walked over to his bed and climbed onto it.
“Well, I guess my work here is done. I’ll be going now.” Shou took a second to observe Ritsu before half-turning towards the balcony.
“Could you… stay?” Ritsu said quietly.
Shou turned back towards Ritsu.
“Uh, sure?” Shou made his way over to Ritsu, stopping just in front of the bed.
Ritsu weakly pulled at Shou’s arm.
“Wha- do you want me to, like, lay down?” Shou asked.
Ritsu just tiredly nodded.
“Well, okay then. Whatever makes you sleep I guess.” Shou layed down next to Ritsu, who proceeded to put his head on Shou’s shoulder, and an arm over his chest.
…Great, now I’m kind of trapped here. Not that I mind too much.
He hoped that in the low light of the room Ritsu wasn’t able to see his flushed face.
Ritsu had already drifted off to sleep. Well, it was 3 AM, and he was very tired. So Shou can’t really blame him.
———————————-
“Sleep well, sleeping beauty?”
“Wha-” Ritsu immediately shot his head up from where it was resting–which was certainly not his pillow.
“Please tell me you didn’t forget how I got here.” Shou said. “Although… it’d be fun to tease you about that.”
“Uh… actually, I remember now,” Ritsu said.
Ritsu’s face flushed while recalling what happened last night. He covered his face with his hands to hopefully hide the fact that he was blushing from Shou.
“Just wait until you see your texts,” Shou laughed.
Ritsu scrambled up to find his phone.
