Prologue: I am…Ir—What?!

I watched Thanos slap Captain America aside like a person would a fly and stared in horror as the Titan acquired the Infinity Stones once more. ‘No, not again…’ I thought.

Hi. My name is Peter Parker, and all I’ve done since returning from being all but dead is fight a giant purple alien and his army trying to prevent exactly what’s about to happen: Thanos destroying all of mankind with a single snap of his finger.

I look around   for Mr. Stark but the area he was hit to looks clear. Then I see him crawling up behind Thanos, eyes on the stones, ‘No, Mr. Stark…no’ I think, but I see Doctor Strange holding a finger up and I know: This is the only way. Mr. Stark tackles Thanos from behind and gets slapped away again. My heart drops.

“I am…inevitable,” Thanos snaps and I flinch. But nothing happens. I open my eyes and immediately wish I hadn’t. I see Mr. Stark sitting up on his knees, the stones circling his hand. I remove my mask and hear him speak, “And I am..Ir—” just as he was about to enact the stones, he was interrupted by something that almost blew my mind away.

You see, a portal opened and a man came through, yanked the stones away from Mr. Stark, away from Thanos, and pulled him (Mr. Stark) through the portal with him. But the most disturbing thing about this man was that he was me. Much older and weathered, but the bloodied man looked right at me on his way back through the portal and there was no mistaking myself. I didn’t have time to try to comprehend what had just transpired; Thanos had already recovered from his shock and was headed to the Infinity Stones. I don’t want to think about what would’ve happened if I hadn’t reached them first.

Chapter One: The Rebellion

20 years after The Endgame…

Present day, Queens, New York

“Guys, I’ve got him! Evac now!” I yell into my com. I’m pulling a very confused Tony Stark behind me and eventually I have to hoist him up from under his arm to swing out of a broken window, making sure the others are behind me. The entire time, Tony is asking questions I can’t answer right now.

“Stark,” I yell over my shoulder, “I need you to just trust me for now.”

From then on, he was silent. The team and I left the now overrun building, giant mechs shooting after us.

“Everyone out?” I get affirmative answers from everyone, “Great, back to Base 2.”

I make my way to an abandoned school and land at the doors. After pressing a few buttons I push Tony into an underground entrance and let the rest of the team in before looking around, letting myself in and locking the entry behind me.

“Tony,” I start, putting my arm around him, as I walk into the room, “Welcome to The Rebellion. Yes, I know the name is cheesy, but we were short on time,” a small laugh escapes me, “You should know some of the members.” I proceed to introduce (or re-introduce) him to the team:

Thor: Controls the forces of lightning, former Avenger

Captain America: Aka Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, aka Dangerous

Wolverine: Ademantium bones/claws, mutant healing ability, former mumber of the X-Men, very grumpy

Reed Richards: Aka Mr. Fantastic, very stretchy, former member of the Fantastic Four (which unfortunately is MIA)

Bucky Barnes: Aka The Winter Soldier, member of the Thunderbolts, mean metal arm

Yelena: Basically, Black Widow, member of the Thunderbolts

Gambit: Professional Thief, has the mutant power to tap into the potential energy of any inanimate object and turn it into explosive kinetic energy (makes things go BOOM), former member of the X-Men

Rogue: Southern Belle with super strength, flight, and the power to drain you, your powers, and your memories dry with the slightest touch, also former X-Man

Ghost Spider: Basically, Spider-Girl, same story as myself, and…she’s my wife

Cyclops: Former X-Man, blasts explosive beams from optic visor

Nightcrawler: Teleporting mutant, blue and furry, Rogue’s half-brother

“That’s all for now,” I explain. “We’ve been trying to regroup and snatch people from the past to help. Unfortunately, that was our last base with a time machine.”

“How…how did this happen?” Tony asked, still stunned.

                  “It’s…a long story.”

He jolts, as if suddenly remembering something important, and then turns to me, “Morgan?!”

I lower my head, “We aren’t sure. The city, heck, the state was flattened. We don’t know of any civilian survivors. We were lucky to get a few of the heroes out. Even then, the greater half of this team is from the past.” I look over to Rogue and Gambit, Rogue talking to Nightcrawler and Gambit looking longingly and sorrowfully at her back. “We look for any survivors when we can, but it’s not often that we find any.”

“Tell me,” Tony’s eyes were cold, determined, “Tell me what happened.”
