Work Text:
From the moment eyes first fell
upon the crescent and star,
On the places of worship that dotted
the great city claimed
Minds were put ablaze with love of Him
He who’s beauty inspired
Inspired the hearts of those faithful servants
who long ago fashioned our icon
Yet is this hilal with it’s shining star
truly refrencing our moon?
Critics, stargazers and the blind oft possit
that stars are hidden behind luna
That our symbol is from a time bygone
and our hearts should move past
However, when I see our symbol,
I recognize not the face of luna
I see our very own world with its curvature
pictured by those lightyears away
And I see not a star far off in God’s sea
that is welded upon our symbol
But the light of Munawwarah
where the Crowning Mosque beams
