She had wondered, briefly, what would be remembered of her. How much of her of her legacy, would be erased as the Dissolution ate away at it. Dolores Franklin had been young, had been a prodigy, and she had spared a thought to the question, even knowing how little it truly mattered.
Now, however — age has taught her the value of focusing on questions of import, the value of not letting her focus stray and be captured by meaningless thoughts. She considers the questions before her, tests whether they would be worth following up on — those of not enough import are discarded, and Doll lets her attention move to the next test, the next experiment. It is dreadfully full, some days, but there is always work to be done.
(In the back of her mind is an invisible counter, ticking down until the day that she becomes her future-past self, convinced the world was ending so strongly as to bring the end about by her own hands. The Keeper is an ally, here, but Doll is aware that eventually, some day, she will once more become the manwoman who will try to kill him, bringing about destruction by summoning forth the very god that he is a part of.)
For now, however — there are experiments to be done. There are tests to be recorded and data to be stored, and Doll (reluctantly) resumes her work to prevent the slow crumbling of the world, however she can.
