Work Text:
Severus came home after a long day to see someone slip into the empty flat across from him. He blinked at the red hair. Lily? He shook his head and went inside to get something to eat because he missed tea. He went about making some sandwiches and tea and plopped in front of the television to see what was going on in the world.
He completely forgot about the redhead as he got sucked into watching Die Hard. After the movie ended, he washed up the dishes and went to bed. The next morning, he was running to get to work because he overslept, surprisingly. When he opened the door, he saw the redhead closing the door to their flat. He paused a moment but didn’t have time and scurried to the lift and proceeded to go to work at an apothecary on Diagon Alley, London. He decided to stay in Muggle London because he couldn’t stand his parents' place anymore.
Severus couldn’t stop thinking about the redhead that he saw in his flat building. Could it be Lily? He shook his head. It can’t be. She died all those years ago. When he added something that made the potion go poof, he shook his head as he stepped back. Severus, focus on your work. He banished all his thoughts of her and restarted the potion that he was working on.
Three hours later, Severus went up to his flat and was surprised to find the redhead, struggling to get the door open to her flat. “Oh, let me help you.”
The woman’s head popped up in surprise. “Hello, you must be one of my new neighbours.”
“Yes, I am.” He took two of her bags from her so she could open her door. “I’m sorry.”
“Whatever for?” She turned to him and grabbed her bags. “I’m Mary Jane, by the way, Mary Jane Watson.”
“I’m Severus Snape.” He shook her hand. “I’m apologising because you remind me of someone I used to know.”
“I get that a lot, surprisingly.” She smirked at him. “What do you do?”
“I’m a pharmacist but I create them instead.” He answered her. “What about you?”
“Oh, um, I am a liaison for the United States Government.” She narrowed her eyes. “So don’t do anything suspicious.”
He laughed at her answer. “Excellent. I had my fill of liaison work and switched to the medical field.” He sniffed himself. “Ugh. I need to shower.” He waved good-bye. “I’ll talk to you another day?”
“Sounds good, Severus. I’m off tomorrow of you want to come over to some lunch?” Mary Jane gave him a hopeful look.
Severus paused at the door. “Really?” She nodded. “Alright, about one?” She dipped her head. “Perfect. See you then.”
He went home and took a long shower while cried about his missed friend. I’m glad that it’s not Lily. It would have been a shock if it was her. He prepared a salad and ate that before bed.
The next morning, he rose and had some toast with tea for breakfast. He decided to make her a chocolate cake. Severus sighed as the cake baked in the oven, and he started mixing the frosting. He let them both cool slightly before he spread the topping on. He slipped it into the icebox before taking a shower to get dressed.
When he knocked on her door, she opened with a smile. “Oh, is that for me?”
“Yes, I thought it would be a nice treat for later.” He handed it to her. “It’s Death by Chocolate.”
“One of my favourites.” She smiled. “Come sit at the table. Lunch is nearly ready.”
They started talking and enjoyed their lunch as they smiled at the start of a new friendship.
