“It's all gonna get melted down anyways. Who cares?” Those words were engraved into Cyan's brain. Cyan couldn't run away from that sentence. The realization that Black didn't see them as equals hit them hard as a truck.
But they continued to run, not daring to look back. Cyan was afraid that if they stopped, they would fall and tumble with their feelings. Cyan's heart was pounding; their body felt like it was in danger.
Cyan couldn't go back. They can't dare to face Black after what they said.
Black probably wants nothing to do with them. Oh, who were they kidding?! They never wanted anything to do with Cyan in the first place.
Ever since they got onto the Skeld, Black would use every opportunity to distance themselves from Cyan or belittle their job. Realizing it now, Cyan's thoughts about Black were going to be the closest they've ever been to Black's true self. They can never understand Black's mind. The both of them were basically on completely different wavelengths and spiritual levels. Cyan could understand everyone's vibes but Black.
That fact frustrated them.
Cyan has gotten out their way, trying to make the most out of their interactions. Their efforts of trying to bond with this stubborn peer hasn't given anything but pain.
Their legs moved them into Electrical. Tears rolled down from the bottom of their visor to the ground.
It was supposed to be Yellow and Black here with them; but what stands there is them alone.
Was it weird how the thought of Black not wanting them felt more lonely than it was to be alone? Cyan thought, not sure if it would've made sense if they said it outloud to someone else.
Their hands traced the insides of the light panel. Pausing midway as their hands never reached the switches.
What was stopping you? Thoughts rushed to their head, It's the easiest task you have done on this ship. Your crewmates need the lights to be back on, someone is going to come in here to check in and see you like this. Despite their reasoning, something made them hesitate. Cyan knew what it was. They knew that if they went back, nobody would've been waiting for them. After their argument with Black, all Cyan had left was Purple; even so, they didn't even know if Purple would still make it as they noted their little banter between them and Red. If Cyan made it out alive, who would've been waiting with them?
As their mind spiraled, Cyan sensed bad vibes in the room. They peeked out where the nearest vent would've been and they immediately knew why they'd just felt bad vibes. There was someone in the room with them right around the corner.
This was it.
Cyan backed up, not knowing where to run. The vent creaked and what was there was approaching every second they didn't do something. Cyan couldn't do anything. They were pretty much defenseless and whoever was going to kill them was going to have their easiest kill yet. They couldn't help but cry like always.
They felt so much for everyone and Black, especially Black. Would they even care if they found their dead body now or make it some edgy unsentimental message for Cyan to hear once they died?
Cyan could've needed someone to hold right now though. Just something to reassure them that everything was going to be alright. That this wouldn't be their end. Each feeling that came up contradicted themselves. On one side, they wanted to leave the Skeld safe and sound and on the other, they wanted to die because they had nobody. Nobody but their job of being a Gemologist.
A pink fleshy monster stood right in front of them midway through their spiraling. Cyan couldn't see it clearly because of the lights but they were still able to make out a picture from what was in front of them. Every instinct in their body was telling them to run away or defend themselves. But they stood frozen. They couldn't tell why, but something was holding their arms and legs back. The only thing that was moving was their heart beating faster than they'd ever feel. They didn't even realize their tears were falling down faster than it already was.
Before Cyan knew it, a sharp pain was shocked through their body. There was no need to scream when nobody was going to hear you; nobody was going to come save them. They were going to die feeling alone and helpless.
They were going to die knowing that Black hated them. They were going to die without being able to take back what they said previously even if it wasn't their fault. They just wanted to know if they would've been fine if Cyan just ran back and apologized, if things could've been different. Maybe things would've been different if they weren't a coward back there. However, Cyan also noted just now that Black would've liked to do anything else if it meant they were able to be left alone.
Cyan was fine with that.
Black would've preferred to be left alone.
