“Are ya my husband?”
“No.”
“Why can't I marry someone as pretty as youuuuuu.” Atsumu immediately burst into tears and it was at that moment that Kiyoomi genuinely began questioning his life choices.
He honestly had no idea why he agreed to this. Maybe it was because he felt bad? Or maybe it was because the setter had been doing nothing but whining about his wisdom teeth for the last week and a half and the thought of having to listen to it for any longer was grinding down his nerves.
It all started two weeks ago with very mild complaining that quickly escalated to full blown crying over his wisdom teeth coming in. Quite frankly, Kiyoomi had never heard of anyone getting them at the ripe age of 25… but here they were. Foster had been nice enough to give him a few days off when the pain started getting really bad but he was back before they knew it… still whining about them.
Apparently he had pain meds from the dentist and an appointment to get them removed already set up but that didn't stop the near constant groaning and whimpering whenever he had to do anything involving his face. Talking included. When Atsumu asked if Kiyoomi could pick him up from the dentist that day as a favor, he was quick to say no at first, but Atsumu begged.
“Please Omi? Yer my last option. Everyone else is busy an’ if I don't find a ride they're gonna make me reschedule.”
“So reschedule. One day isn't going to kill you.”
“Their next openin ain't fer another month.”
Kiyoomi could NOT take Atsumu's whining about his teeth for another month. So that's how he ended up here. Standing in front of Atsumu who was still high as balls from the anesthesia, full blown sobbing over… not being married to him? He knew anesthesia made people say stupid shit, but seriously?
“He’s been crying a lot.” The dental technician explained as she passed him a brown paper bag filled with medicine. “Sometimes anesthesia can make people really emotional. It doesn't seem like he's in pain yet but make sure he takes these as soon as you get home.”
“Thanks.” Kiyoomi mumbled, rolling his eyes.
Great. Not only was Atsumu high, he was probably going to be crying for the next few hours. At least the dental technician had been kind enough to confine him to a wheelchair so Kiyoomi wouldn't have to hold him up as they walked out to the car.
“Where’s Sh’amu?” Atsumu managed to ask through the mountain of gauze and cotton balls stuffed in his cheeks.
The dental tech had been steadily adding more in the past few minutes since Kiyoomi got there. Trying to make sure he wouldn't be drooling blood all over himself.
“He's busy right now.” Kiyoomi answered.
“Oh.. how’m I gonna ge home?”
“I'm taking you home.”
“Nooooo!” Atsumu whined, kicking his feet and nearly kicking the dental tech, “Ya can’t take me home!”
“Why not?”
“‘m sh’avin mysh’elf fer marr-wage.”
Kiyoomi deadpanned, “You're not even a fucking virgin, dumbass.” He mumbled under his breath.
The dental tech was trying her hardest not to laugh as she patted Kiyoomi on the shoulder, “Good luck. You can leave the chair next to the doors. We’ll grab it later.”
Kiyoomi nodded, resigning himself to an afternoon of… whatever this was… as he started pushing Atsumu out to the lobby and then into the parking lot.
“Sho is dis a date?” Atsumu mumbled out as he tilted his head back, looking up at him with big golden eyes and almost comically swollen cheeks.”
“No.”
“Oh.. Can it be a date?”
“I'm just here to take you home, remember?” Kiyoomi told him gently, trying to avoid another crying fit. For now he seemed successful.
He positioned the wheelchair just in front of the passenger door so that he could help Atsumu stand up and get inside. Once he was all buckled in he pushed the chair back towards the front of the building before getting in the car. Atsumu’s house was only 10 minutes away. Easy peasy… right?
“Omi Omi Omi~ Omi Omi Omi~ Omi Omi Omi~” Atsumu mumbled out happily in a sing song voice as Kiyoomi started up the car and began pulling out of the parking lot.
“What Atsumu?” He eventually asked once they made it onto the main road.
“Nothin” he hummed, leaning back in his seat.
This was going to be the longest drive of his life.
“Where’re we goin?” Atsumu asked.
“You're house. I'm dropping you off.” Kiyoomi reminded him.
“Sh’amu’s sh’pose ta be here.”
“He couldn't come. He was busy.”
Atsumu looked like he was going to cry again but before he could, a new thought seemed to pop into his head.
“Can I tell ya a sh’ecret?”
“Sure.” Kiyoomi nodded.
“Ya can't tell anyone.”
“I won't.”
“Specially not Omi.” Atsumu giggled, resting his head against his headrest and letting it lull to one side and then the other.
He was completely out of it but Kiyoomi would be lying if he said he didn't find it slightly amusing.
“I won't tell Omi.”
“I love him~”
“I- ....You what?” Kiyoomi's eyes went wide as he tried to focus on the road and not the doped out man next to him.
He had had a crush on Atsumu for a while, not that he was exactly the greatest at expressing that. Actually he was trying his best to deny it as much as possible. Atsumu confessing like this SHOULD have made him happy but all he could focus on was whether or not he could actually believe him when he was like this.
“I love him~ I love him~” Atsumu sighed happily as he stared ahead at the road through half lidded eyes, “He’s sh’o pretty..
Kiyoomi glanced over at him for a brief moment, still completely speechless. Seeing his eyes suddenly well up with tears.
“He's sh’o p-pretty..” he sniffled, “b-but he HATES MEEEEE!” He sobbed as large tears began rolling down his puffy cheeks. His shoulders shook as he buried his face in his hands.
“Atsumu…” Kiyoomi sighed softly, suddenly feeling terrible. “Hey.. he doesn't hate you.”
“YES HE DOOOOES!!” Atsumu cried even harder, “He's gonna tink 'm sh’o ugly wifout teef!”
“No, he won't.. he would never think that.”
“How would YOU know!!!” He sobbed bitterly. “Why didja let’em sh’teal my teef!” He whined.
“They were hurting, remember?” Kiyoomi placed his hand on his shoulder, rubbing it gently, “And it was just your wisdom teeth.”
“DON’ TOUCH MEEEEE!!! ‘M SH’O UGLYYYY” Atsumu shrieked, desperately trying to scrub away the tears as they fell.
Kiyoomi quickly pulled his hand away. Jesus christ he was a mess…
Contrary to popular belief, Kiyoomi WAS actually fairly good at cheering people up. This situation was an obvious exception though. How do you cheer up someone who's so out of it they don't even know who they're talking to? He just kept driving, letting him cry it out until eventually he was back to quietly sniffling.
“I can't feel my face…” He whimpered pitifully.
Kiyoomi didn't say anything back to him though. Too afraid of accidently making him cry again.

Getting Atsumu out of the car proved to be a lot easier than getting him in it. Walking up the three short steps to his front porch was a different story though… but after a lot of pushing, tripping, and “gentle persuasion” (aka minor threatening) they managed to make it inside. Kiyoomi immediately b-lined both of them towards Atsumu's bedroom and helped him get settled. The faster he could fall asleep, the better. Once he was tucked in, Kiyoomi brought him the medicine that the dentist had given him and a glass of water.
“Wha’s dis?” Atsumu asked, holding the pills in his hand.
“Your medicine. You have to take it before you go to sleep.”
“I don wanna.”
“You're gonna be in pain if you don't.” Kiyoomi warned him.
“No!” Atsumu pouted.
“Atsumu..”
Atsumu stared at him. It looked like he was genuinely contemplating his options for a moment. “Fine… but I wanna kiths.”
Kiyoomi blushed softly, “I'm not kissing you.”
More tears welled up in Atsumu's eyes, pulling at Kiyoomi’s heart strings.
“Ok.. ok.” He sighed softly, “I’ll kiss you if you take them.”
Atsumu smiled happily as he popped the pills into his mouth and tried his best to wash them down with his water. He struggled a little because of how stuffed his mouth was but somehow he managed to swallow them. Kiyoomi took the glass from him and left a gentle kiss on his forehead.
“Get some rest, Sumu.” He hummed softly.
They were going to have A LOT to talk about when Atsumu eventually came back to practice but for now he let him sleep.
