Work Text:
Akko kicked the ground with the tip of her shoe as she paced back and forth. She had her head down as she wracked her brains for ideas. All she needed was a way to turn Diana back into a human. Ever since Diana was transformed into a vampire, she had to hide in a special room. She couldn’t enjoy the sun. She couldn’t enjoy doing classes. She couldn’t even use magic anymore. Akko couldn’t imagine how devastated Diana was when she discovered that fact. Her friends Sucy and Lotte watched her, their expressions showing their concern. “Akko,” Lotte began. “You’ve been at this for hours. Maybe you should take a break?” Akko spun around to face Lotte, tears lingering in the corners of both of her eyes.
“No, I need to do this!” She protested. “I just need to figure out a way. No matter what it takes!”
“When did you start caring about Diana anyway? I thought you hated her.” Sucy spoke up now. Akko came to a halt.
“Oh, uhm…” She diverted her gaze away from her two best friends. The sun was beginning to set. “How about you two head back to our dorm room? I’ll be a little while longer.” Lotte and Sucy exchanged puzzled looks but they didn’t argue. Once they were inside the building of Luna Nova, Akko ran to the schools garden. She had promised to meet Diana there once it was dark.
“Akko.” Diana’s voice was hushed, and quiet as she smiled showing sharpened fangs. Akko lifted her head, a smile forming on her lips.
“Diana!” She bounded towards her girlfriend joyfully. “I’ve been trying my best to find a cure to make you human again!” Diana paused with a sad smile.
“Akko, there is no cure.” She didn’t dare look to see the distraught look on Akko’s face.
“N-no I refuse to believe that! There has to be something that’ll work!”
“I’m sorry.” Akko let out a draw out, long sigh.
“No, you don’t have to apologise.” Unbeknownst to them, glowing yellow eyes watched them from the bushes. “I should be sorry.” Diana picked up on the uninvited guests presence with her vampire senses. But it was too late. A huge, bipedal creature stepped out. It had fangs like knives, clawed fingers and a large tail that swished gently behind it. “A werewolf? But they’re meant to be extinct!” Akko shouted in shock. Diana put herself in between the werewolf and Akko.
“Go! Now! Alert the professors!” The werewolf zipped past Diana. It’s focus was solely on Akko who wasn’t fast enough to dodge it’s razor sharp teeth. A blood curdling scream rang out. Diana was at her side in seconds.
“Akko! Are you-” Spotting the werewolves bite, Diana froze. A sharp, stinging pain raked through Akko’s whole being; from head to toe. It felt like every single bone was contorting and being pulled and tugged in all kinds of directions. Akko winced in agony, bent over and clutching her stomach as muscles started to ripple. Hair began to sprout from the pores of her pale skin, thick and dark, spreading across his body like an unstoppable burning wild fire. Akko's fingers began to elongate, her nails thickened and curled up into sharp and deadly claws. The hideous sound of cracking bones and twisting flesh filled the silent air as Akko’s limbs stretched abnormally, joints popping and shifting to accommodate the body of the beast she was turning into. Her face contorted painfully, her jaw expanding and her teeth sharpening into vicious fangs. A howl escaped her lips, spine-chilling and haunting, echoing throughout the schools fields. Diana stood still as Akko leaned down, salivating. She sniffed Diana, and something shifted in her eyes. Diana slowly reached out and placed a hand on top of her head. Akko closed her eyes as Diana petted her gently.
In mere minutes the professors had arrived. “Diana!” One of them called out, grabbing Akko’s attention. In an instant, the vicious beast within Akko showed itself. She stood in front of her vampire girlfriend, as if protecting her. They aimed special weapons full of metal bullets. Professor Ursula lifted a hand.
“Wait! Don’t shoot!” She ordered.
“It’s Akko…” Diana told them solemnly. “She was bitten. I couldn’t protect her…” Akko’s stare softened as she recognised Professor Ursula.
“Oh, Akko.” Professor Ursula frowned. She stepped forward albeit cautiously. Once she was close enough, she rested a hand between her ears and stroked Akko’s fur. Akko let out a low hum of content at the feeling.
“It’ll be okay. You’ll be okay.” Diana muttered to her. She took Akko’s hand carefully, feeling her soft pawpads and grazing her fingers along her claws. “We’ll cope with this together.” Akko nodded her head, understanding Diana's words. She let out a small dog-like noise as if replying.
She woke up sore and aching. Akko slowly sat up, a headache splitting her head wide open. “Owwww…” She groaned. “What the...” Glancing around, she was in an unfamiliar room. A scent of sweet tea filled her nostrils. “Diana?” She mumbled. Her vampire girlfriend appeared beside her.
“Akko, I’m so glad you’re okay!” Akko blinked a few times.
“What happened? I feel awful.” Diana placed a firm yet comforting hand on her shoulder.
“You were… Bitten by a werewolf.” She watched as Akko processed that information.
“So, I’m werewolf then?” She questioned anxiously. Diana simply nodded.
“Huh. A vampire-werewolf romance!” She teased, nudging Diana. Diana shot her a glare but it held no real hostility.
“You’re still an idiot.” She shook her head.
“You know you still love me.” Akko laughed and Diana soon joined her.
“Yeah. Idiot or Werewolf, I do still love you.”
