Chapter Text
My name is Asahina Mafuyu. I am a Straight A student at Miyamasuzaka Girls Academy.
Well, was. My parents moved to Hidariwakibara-Cho, Tokyo, and they brought me along with them. I may have been able to stay with my friend, Kanade, until I graduated but they didn’t like that idea.
So, I am now a transfer student at PK Academy, with new people to have to get used to and a new place to build my persona up.
Before I walk into my class, I can hear the talking. “Did you hear there’s another transfer student?”
“I hope she’s nice, the past few have been really weird…”
“It’s a girl?! Sweet!” I made a note to avoid that guy. When I walk into class, the whispers shut down and they stare.
I look presentable, though I do miss Miya’s more customizable uniform, the unity of this one seems weird to me now. My hair is in its standard ponytail, the yellow scrunchie being replaced with a teal one to compliment the rest of the outfit. I prefer my yellow one more, but first impressions are important, and part of first impressions is outfit coordination.
“Hello, I am Asahina Mafuyu.” I begin with a polite smile, writing my name on the blackboard behind me. “I come from Shibuya’s Girl’s Academy, it is nice to meet you all.” I turn back to look at them, a couple catching my eye immediately. A girl with blue hair whom has a literal aura that emanates from her, as well as a boy with hot pink hair and some strange hair clips and glasses. I can tell immediately that this will not be like my class in Shibuya, as this is a class of characters the likes I have never seen before.
The teacher smiles, directing me to an empty seat in the back near a man with a strange yellow mohawk and an egregious butt chin. I give a slight smile to him as I sit down and begin to write notes in my new school journal. I can hear him try to get my attention, but I simply ignore it. I must study, after all, I need to build this persona up from level one.
Soon enough, the bell rings. I continue to put my mask on throughout the whole day, a smile there and a laugh there. One nice greeting, and I am now apart of the glowing girl’s group. Apparently, her name is Teruhashi Kokomi, and she is the ‘most perfect girl ever’. With her is Yumehara Chiyo and Mera Chisato. They’re nice enough, and my persona fits right in with their colorful cast of personalities.
At lunch, she walks me through getting a meal ticket and getting my food. It had slipped my mind that I needed to pack, but this food doesn’t look half bad. Teruhashi even got a whole lobster in her bowl.
We waited for Yumehara and Mera, whom both got their food. The brunette began to speak, “Kokomi, can we sit with the guys? I wanna talk with well.. you know who.”
Who? I don’t really care, actually. This place grates my ears, it has very quickly gotten on my nerves. Nothing like Miya.
Teruhashi looks over at the table Yumehara was talking about, and she seems to blush before she nods. “Yeah, we can sit with them!” She smiles, beginning to walk over. The rest of us follow her. I sit at the end, across from the boy that had pink hair. He stared blankly at me, whilst I gave him a standard polite smile.
‘This school is worse than Miyamasuzaka.’ I think to myself, ‘I can hear their conversations. Is that mohawk guy looking at me? Do I look off? No, I must not, no one can know the suffocation I feel here.’
The man with the strange haircut begins to speak to me, “Hey, pal! I was tryna talk to you earlier, I’m Nendou! We were gonna head to get ramen later, do you want to join?” He smiles. His appearance is strange, almost threatening, but he seems like anything but.
‘These people already get on my nerves, can I really stand being stuck with them for longer than necessary? Plus, mom wants me home so we can figure out a good cram school together…’
“Oh, I appreciate the offer, but my mother wants me home as soon as possible. Thank you very much for considering me, Nendou.” I explain. And I’m very glad I denied, because the light blue haired one (Kaidou, I believe), starts talking about how disgusting the last ramen shop they went to was, and how he’ll never let Nendou pick again. Even if I can’t taste, just the thought of what sort of food the boy was describing can make me gag.
The lunch bell ends, and I head to my next class, P.E. The class representative, who I have learned is named Hairo, explains that dodgeball is a sport that requires ‘focus, determination, and strength!’
Yumehara tells me that normally, when they do any sort of gym activity at all it’s never co-ed, so it’s strange they’re doing it now. “But aren’t you excited? We get to see all the guys!”
“I think the boys are more focused on Teruhashi.” I laugh lightly. I would not be excited about the boys anyway, I’m not interested in something so futile. But they all crowd around Teruhashi, begging her to choose them for her team. After all, there are four teams, so they think they have a good chance. They disgust me.
Instead, she chooses Yumehara, Mera, Saiki, Nendou, Kaidou, Kuboyasu and I. The other three groups are filled with kids I cannot name.
Hairo does well for his team, yes, but the rest of the team not so much. They’re all blinded by Teruhashi, which, of course, leads to our team winning.
While we’re waiting in the grass for the other two teams to play, I can feel Saiki’s gaze on me, calculating. I give him a smile and turn back to the game in front of me. It drags on, but I don’t mind.
Not until Teruhashi gets hit with a ball, that is. Right in the face. The game is paused now, as some boys fight over who takes her to the nurse. Ultimately, she asks Saiki, who agrees. Killing two birds with one stone.
After the group of guys who were fighting beat up the boy who threw the ball at her, they begin to play again. The team on the right wins.
It’s their teams against each other, and now they actually have to work because Teruhashi’s beauty isn’t here to save us. Other than Kaidou’s horrible playing, they aren’t half bad.
I throw a ball and hit one of the girls on the other team, ducking under a ball Nendou throws. Wow. It hits people in a zigzag like pattern. It’s the first thing I’ve truly found interesting throughout my day here.
I give him a smile, “good job, Nendou.” I compliment, before taking a ball Kaidou just… let fall to the ground, he’s really bad.
I throw another one.
The game takes a bit, so long that Teruhashi comes back, making people from my own team and everyone on the other team look at her. I use this opportunity to get Nendou to throw another one of his shots.
We win. Some cheer, but I don’t really care that much. I high five other members of my team.
The rest of the day is largely uneventful, as the last school bell rings. Walking home alone is something I enjoy, as I pull out my phone to go on Nightcord.
Yuki: First day of school done.
Amia: YAYYYYY how did it go??
Yuki: Fine.
Enanan: Amia, shouldn’t you be in school right now?
Amia: #skipping lolll
Anyway tell us ALL about it tonight Yuki!
Yuki: I will.
I turn my phone back off as I get to my new home. I open the gate and head inside, feeling the texture of the bricks against my fingers as I walk in.
I go to my room, and begin to do my homework, waiting patiently until my mother gets home. I wonder to myself if maybe tomorrow I’ll go with that group to get ramen.
Maybe, it’d help me build up my persona. Then Saiki won’t stare at me again in that strange, calculating way.
