Work Text:
Mane crouches on the roof of the prison building leaning slightly on his spear, waiting for the latest patrol to walk past, the particles of invisibility floating around him. He starts to stand, reaching for the TNT in his pack when the internal guard’s voices catch his attention.
“Yo, so when are we leaving?” The first guard asks.
“Were you not paying attention? Morning, dude. Sarge just got orders from Deputy_Ace, he’s going to meet us halfway to take Flame off our hands. Sarge is prepping the Fire-Resistant chains.” The second guard remarks, clearly done with the first one.
“Cool, cool. Can’t wait to lock this menace up in the more secure prison.” The first guard laughs, stupidly confident.
“I can hear you, bro!” Flame growls from his cell below Mane. There is a metallic clang that Mane can only assume is one of the guards hitting Flame’s cell. Mane chuckles silently as he throws an Ender Pearl at a nearby tree to relax in until the morning.
As the sun rises, Mane stretches languidly, dropping another invisibility potion on himself. He moves out from the middle of the leaves and crouches, watching the small crowd of guards assemble outside of the jail. Soon Sarge walks out, leading two elites holding two ends of an iron chain. Part of the chain is circled multiple times around Flame’s wrists, holding them in front of him, the other part of the chain secures his arms to his sides and is held by the second elite behind the blindfolded sword master. Flame fidgets with his wrists, clearly annoyed, but holds his tongue, for now. Mane can tell he’s glaring through his blindfold at the commander.
“You know your assignments. Let’s move out.” SargeLaw commands before beginning to lead the two elites, Flame, and five diamond guards follow, one of them leading a mule. The rest of the guards return to their posts or patrols. Mane follows the group carefully, seeing what path they were going to take back to the main server. He recognizes the path quickly as the one that goes through the Mesa, with a smirk he drops a speed potion on himself and sprints ahead of the group to a good ambush point. A small hill valley. He deposits a spare shulker behind the top of the hill and takes a perch at the top of the hill.
Watching the procession gets closer and closer. Mane chuckles softly as he lets his elytra wings fan from his back, waiting for just the right moment before launching himself down the top of the hill, spear ready and he hits the front elite, killing them instantly. He lands quickly swinging the side of the spear to rest just under Sarge’s chin on the right, hovering less than an inch from a major artery. He counter braces his spear with his leg to hold it steady as his invisibility runs out.
“Wassup, wassup, wassup?!” Mane grins at Sarge, the Law soldiers behind Flame start to reach for their weapons and the remaining elite starts to adjust the chains on Flame to hold him tight.
“Mane?” Flame seems surprised. Mane tries to ignore the tinge of pain from his brother in arms thinking he would abandon his little brother.
“Ready to stir up some trouble?” Mane asks.
“Hell yeah, I am.” Flame remarks, “But kinda hard to do with these things on me.” Flame punctuates the ending with a shake of the chains.
“Bro, why you making me do all the work?” Mane complains before turning the blade of his spear to its flat side and striking the Sarge quickly, knocking him back and stunning him as Mane turns the spear quickly around using the blade to dig into the sand and throws about a handful up at the elite that is still holding Flame’s chains. Flame shakes the chains off with two quick motions. “Up the left hill, bro.” Flame dodges under a sword and runs up the hill as Mane slides his hands to the pointed part of the spear and sends the pole down low to knock two of the guards down. Mane twirls the pole back above him, bracing the spear against the back of his arm with the tip down. He smirks at the Lawmen around him, “Alright, who’s next?”
Mane laughs with glee as two of the diamonds charge at him, one with an axe and the other with a sword. He pulls the spear forward, lancing the chains up sending them flying at the axe-man before sending the spear tip down in a crescent swipe downwards at the sword man, clashing with the sword in a parry. The axe-man swings the chains back at Mane who throws the blunt end of the spear up in a circle to catch the chain before stabbing the blunt end into the helmet of the axe-man and reverse stabbing the sword-man, making him explode into items. An arrow from Sarge flies just over Mane’s shoulder into the axe-man making him explode into items as well.
The remaining elite, finally getting the sand out of their eyes, charges at Mane with a sword. Mane blocks multiple hits with the middle of his spear’s pole, “You got some moves, I see why you are the elite of this squad. But I got something you don’t.”
“What’s that?”
“A FlameFrags.” Mane grins as Flame’s pearl lands and he slices cleanly with his borrowed sword, the elite disappearing. Flame drops potions at both of their feet as the brother’s turn back-to-back. Flame twirls the sword in his hand, looking around the last three diamonds and Sarge, Mane readjusts the chain higher on his spear and around his right wrist, letting the rest of the slack hang. “So, are you going to catch up with my kill count?”
“Nah, I’m gonna surpass yours, bro.” Flame grins.
“Nah, nah, nah bro.” Mane shakes his head.
“Lawmen! Subdue them if you can, kill them if you have to! We are close enough to the exchange point that Deputy_Ace should see the fighting and bring reinforcements. Stay alive until then!” Sarge commands before blowing the Law horn. The three diamonds charge at the brothers. Flame and Mane work in-sync around each other. Flame’s precise sword strikes working well with Mane’s quicker and more distance strikes. The brothers take down the three diamonds easily. To Mane’s chagrin, Flame gets the final kill on both, bringing their kill count to even. And the chain shatters, not cool bro.
Both brothers survey the sandy field around them for a moment before turning their attention to the last soldier standing. Flame repositions his borrowed sword with a quick twirl of the grip in his hand and Mane spins the spear and notches the blunt end of the pole weapon into the sand near his feet. “Guess the Deputy is late, Sarge.” Flame mocks, a smirk growing on his face.
Sarge glares at both of them, “For my brother!” Flame rolls his eyes behind his blindfold and starts his charge at the Law Commander, only stopping short and dodging to the left when Sarge places a rail and a cart quickly. Mane slides into the empty space left by Flame and knocks the cart back into Sarge with the blunt end of his spear as if it were a pool cue causing another explosion of yellow and green particles as the cart explodes on Sarge, Mane maneuvers quickly back to a stand and brings the spear end towards Sarge. Sarge dodges backwards and braces his shield against a sword attack by Flame. Flame quickly brings his axe up and knocks the shield aside and Mane spears Sarge’s side between the chest piece and shoulder piece of the armor, temporarily crippling his left arm holding his shield. Sarge swings his right arm up to clash with Flame a few more times, Mane standing back waiting for the right opportunity to strike.
And it comes when Sarge push kicks Flame back and he slides into the sand down a small hill. Mane comes up with an upwards sweep of the spear, catching Sarge across his back and following that with a thrust of the spear towards his spine. Sarge only barely manages to dodge it by throwing a long pearl away from the brothers. Flame stops Mane from chasing after the Law Commander with a raised hand, “Not worth it, bro.” Flame watches Sarge disappears after another long pearl. Mane sighs and hauls Flame up the sandy bank with a strong pull of his arm.
“Well, that was fun while it lasted. Haven’t had a serious fight like that in months.” Mane stretches softly and returns his spear to the holster on his back. Flame looks around for the mule and finds it, walking over and digging through the saddle bags for the shulkers of his gear.
“Thanks for the rescue, I honestly didn’t expect that.”
“What? You never told me where their treasures are, you still owe me, bro!”
“Right, of course that’s all it is.” Flame seems almost disheartened.
Mane walks over and throws an arm over Flame’s shoulders, “I’m jokin’, I’m jokin’. Of course I would save my lil bro.”
Flame rolls his eyes, “Hah! Right, little. Bro we are the same age!”
“Nah, nah, nah. I’m the older bro. Wiser.” Mane grins at him, tapping the side of his forehead with his free left hand. Flame laughs and shakes his head.
“Whatever, c’mon. I know where they were storing their loot.” Flame leads Mane away from the ambush point, Mane’s arm still around Flames shoulders as they start to joke and talk about the old times and catch up with everything without the immediate danger of Law descending on them.
