Flies messed up again.
He didn't mean anything by it, he just wanted to get all of this stupid shit over with and quick. And anyone else would've done what he did if they were in his position, it was a reasonable action to take against an unreasonable force.
He didn't invite Katanas over or tell him, or anyone for that matter, what he was about to do. That man just has some weird third sense to know when Flies' is going to do something dumb it seems.
But he didn't lock the doors for some stupid reason. It was embarrassing for Katanas to barge into the bathroom, and even more embarrassing to have to tell, actually, beg for Katanas to not call an ambulance. Flies can't afford another hospital bill.
It shouldn't have surprised Flies as much as it did when, after helping patch him up and even cleaning the damn floor, Katanas didn't want Flies to be left alone, so he took initiative and drove Flies (and Robyn) to his apartment, had him take a shower (while sitting outside of the bathroom the whole time), eat a hot meal with a cold drink, and lecture him into trying to get some shut eye, since it'd be good for him.
It's left Flies laying on Katanas couch, his back facing away from the couch, his body layered in three blankets of varying thickness and material. He can't see the kitchen's clock from here, and Katanas took his phone to charge it in his room, so Flies has no clue how long he's been trying to sleep though. Robyn is dead asleep at the foot of the couch, somehow having managed to squirm his lower half in the small gap between the couch and wall. Katana's apartment has a nondescript floral scent that Flies can't identify.
It's a bit obvious why he hasn't fallen asleep. The burning sting of pain is keeping him awake. He doesn't want to ask Katanas for any Advil or ibuprofen though. He's been enough of a leech as is, and asking for more than you need is asking for trouble.
He pulls his arms and legs closer in, sticking his tongue out for a second to wet his lips. His eyes are dry. His favourite shirt is in the wash; Katanas offered him one of his own though, a gaudy christmas sweater that was a few sizes too big for him. It fit Flies.
There's not a lot of things Flies likes anymore. Lots of stuff has just lost enjoyment over the years, but especially with recent times... mostly because of The Influence.
He feels ashamed he's let himself sink this low down. He's a grown man for gods sake, living on his own for years now, yet he's letting himself become reliant on a bunch of internet weirdos and Katanas because some weird evil alien tower that blends the bounds of simple internet exploration into walking straight to the grave willingly is scaring him. The former-internet-hoax-maybe-real-physical-object tower that has killed more people than Flies has fingers, toes and all other body parts. Everyone involved with this shit are idiots, all of them. Himself included, and there's no arguing about it.
...Well, no, not really. Katanas isn't an idiot, he's a good guy and a great friend with a stupid, big fat heart for all he's doing for him. Flies didn't mean it like that, its just...
There's footsteps. Flies feels his lungs freeze up. He knows it's just Katanas, no one else lives here, but he didn't expect him to be awake this late into the night.
Flies doesn't turn his head, he doesn't want him to know he isn't asleep, so he just makes guesses on where Katanas is going. He walks past the living room, to the kitchen most likely. The light is flicked on, so it's definitely the kitchen from where the light is pouring out. A cabinet is opened, then after a few seconds closed. The sink is turned on; He's probably just getting a drink of water.
Flies is trying not to think of what he did a few hours ago, but the sound of rushing water smacks him in the face. There's a lot of processes that involves the movement of water; The man-made things like baths, sinks, plumbing and water cleaning facilities, to the more natural side of it like the ocean, rivers, lakes, and veins.
The sink is shut off, only stopped for a few moments before it gets turned back on again, then off. Katanas' footsteps become closer again as he leaves the kitchen.
Katanas doesn't walk to his bedroom though, and he doesn't turn the kitchen light off, he goes to what is meant to be the living room... his footsteps stop right at the couch.
"Hey, Jack," Katanas leaned down and whispered, close to his ear "Are you awake?"
Flies blinks, his eyelids heavy. He sluggishly turns his head to look at Katanas. His hair is tussled from sleep, and he's holding a glass of water.
"Do you... um, want any water?"
"No." Flies would leave it at that, but he's a guest, "but thanks for the offer."
Katanas gave him his space back, standing up straight and sipping the water. He looks off to the side, staring at either the wall or the end of the couch. There's a moment of silence between the two; When Flies would normally feel put off and awkward, he feels just... neutral when sharing it with Katanas. It's almost peaceful.
"Uh, do the you-know-whats need to be changed?" Flies doesn't like that. That Katanas is avoiding saying what it is. He isn't a baby, it's not something so scary that you need to avoid saying what it is.
He doesn't want to talk about it either though.
"No, it's... I'm fine."
Katanas looks back at him, and asks him something that should be simple to answer, "Are you okay?"
Flies makes a face, he doesn't know what emotion is on display. He's never been good with those.
Katanas' face scrunches up at that, like disappointment. There's not a pause between Flies' last sentence and his own words, "Are you sure?"
Flies doesn't know what to say.
Physically, he'll be fine. There's not much to worry about, it'll get better with time as all things do. But the things about him that Katanas could be worrying about aren't going away anytime soon. They're integral to to his self, those habits that have shaped him and how he operates day-to-day in the world. He's not gonna give them up anytime soon, why would he? They help.
Katanas breaks the silence, "You don't wanna talk about it I guess?"
"Yeah," is all that Flies can muster up.
Katanas brows furrow. It looks like he wants to say something. Say a lot of things that Flies know he won't like hearing out of his mouth. But he doesn't say anything at all, instead he pushes Flies' legs to be closer to the back of the couch. Flies complies with it by pulling them back too. He sits down and reaches, grabbing the remote.
Katanas voice takes on a slightly different tone, more positive than before, "Do you remember when I tried to get you to watch Gundam?"
"Oh god," Flies remarks sarcastically. He turns the rest of his body to no longer be facing the back of the couch.
The tv turns on. "When'd you last leave off again? We can watch a bit, probably,"
Flies is grateful to have Katanas around. That's one thing he thinks he still likes.
