Notes:

Hi. Happy pride month.
I (along with probably everyone else who read this) had a full on meltdown after watching episode 12. So, I decided to write my sadness away. (It didn't work. I'm still sad.)
Anyway! I hope you enjoyed. Thanks for reading. Bye!

Work Text:

“Nakamura, did you get any chocolates…?“

Nakamura was taken off guard and spluttered. His heart rate picked up and his cheeks flushed. Was this what he thought it was? “No… I didn’t.“

Hirose looked away, the tips of his ears becoming red. The sight only made Nakamura more flustered. “Oh, okay. Well…“

Nakamura held his breath, trying desperately not to get his hopes up. He was already friends with Hirose, and with his tendency to have bad luck, it was best if he hoped for nothing to change. He didn’t want to lose Hirose because of his feelings after all.

Hirose stood, unspeaking, his hand resting hesitantly on his bag, the golden hour light seeping through the glass doors accentuating his soft features and making him breathtaking in Nakamura’s eyes.

“I got… something for you,“ Hirose mumbled shyly, then he suddenly whipped his head up and flashed Nakamura a nervous smile. “You know what, nevermind! See you later, Nakamura.“ And with that, he jogged out the door.

“Wait… Wait!“ Nakamura ran after him and grabbed his arm. “Don’t- don’t do that-!“

Hirose looked at him with wide eyes. “Nakamura? You okay?”

Nakamura took a deep breath and let go of Hirose’s arm. “Y-yeah, I’m okay. But…“ God, how do I say this without sounding like a jerk?! “Can I see what you got for me..?” He facepalmed, cursing himself mentally, but he was snapped out of it when he saw a small, ribbon tied box come into view. He gasped silently and locked eyes with Hirose, gently taking the box. “Th-thanks.“

He untied it, glancing over at Hirose, who had his head down, looking flustered. Hirose was always composed and hardly got nervous like this. It brought a small smile to Nakamura’s face.

Nakamura lifted the lid on the box, letting out a gasp of surprise. “You got these for me, Hirose..?“

Hirose scratched his cheek, smiling nervously. “Yeah. I thought you’d like them. They’re sea creature themed, so I thought of you…”

Nakamura felt confidence building up inside him, and he decided to bite the bullet. “W-well-! I got these for you too!” He quickly opened his back and handed Hirose another box of chocolates. “I hope you like them…”

Hirose unwrapped the thin layer of paper on the outside of the box. “No way, dude! Aquapet’s special edition Valentine’s chocolates! I hoped someone would get me these!”

Nakamura laughed nervously, feeling like his heart was about to burst. “I-I heard you mention you liked them. You also wore their shirt before.“

Hirose pulled Nakamura into a hug, temporarily stunning him.

Holy shit, is this actually happening? Have I ascended or something? This does not feel real right now…

Nakamura pulled himself out of his stupor and hugged him back, feeling incredibly self-conscious. He didn’t want to hug too tight or too long so it became awkward, but he also didn’t want to hug him too loosely for a short amount of time and seem insincere. Hirose didn’t let go though.

“Nakamura?“

“Y-yeah?“

“Your heart’s beating like crazy.“

Nakamura lightly clutched the back of Hirose’s uniform, realizing with a start that, “Yours is too.“

Hirose finally let go and took a step back, although they still stood relatively close to each other. “Sorry about that, I should get going…“

Nakamura cleared the fog from his brain. “Wait, Hirose! Wanna walk home together?“ he asked, his voice a little quiet.

Hirose smiled softly. “Sure thing.“

Hirose laughed. “And then Oomori said-“

Nakamura came to a stop, looking at his house distastefully.

“Oh, Nakamura, this is your place, right?“

Nakamura sighed. “Yup. It also happens to be where my obnoxious little sister lives.”

Hirose smiled and elbowed him lightly. “Yeah, you’ve mentioned her before. Don’t get along well, huh?“

Nakamura chuckled and smiled softly at him. “No, not really.“

Hirose looked away quickly. “Okay, well, see you tomorrow?“

Nakamura nodded, his mind racing. “Hey, did you give anyone else chocolates?“ he asked hesitantly. “Any girls or anything..?“

Hirose blushed and shook his head. “No. Well, I gave my friends some, but…“

“Oh, so this is friend chocolate?“ Nakamura asked, trying to sound upbeat.

“No.“

Nakamura’s expression turned into one of confusion. “It’s… it’s not?“

“It’s-“ Hirose hesitated for a few seconds. “It’s ‘I like you’ chocolate.”

Nakamura’s eyes widened and he fell over.

“Ah-! Nakamura!“ Hirose knelt next to him, looking concerned. “You okay, man?“

Nakamura giggled hysterically. “What?“

“Crap, do I need to get your parents or something?“ Hirose asked, panicked.

Get it together, Okuto. You’re freaking him out! “I’m okay,“ Nakamura said, his voice a little high. “Just surprised me.“

Hirose frowned and helped him up. “I’m sorry about that, Nakamura.“ He whispered.

“No, no! Don’t apologize! I…“ Nakamura groaned in frustration and took a few deep breaths.

This was his chance. No way in hell was he letting it slip.

“I like you too!“ he blurted, feeling like he was going to pass out from all the blood rushing to his head.

Hirose stood there silently for a moment, before bursting out laughing. He wiped his eyes. “Aw man, you really are a funny guy, Nakamura.“ He got up on his toes and pressed a quick kiss to Nakamura’s cheek. “Let’s walk home again tomorrow, okay?“

Nakamura brought a hand up to his cheek, looking starstruck. “Y-yeah. Definitely.“

Hirose smiled and waved, and Nakamura watched his retreating back.

He grinned and walked inside.

“Okuto, is that you? Dinner’s ready!“

Nakamura cleared his throat. “One sec!” he ran upstairs to his room, closed the door, face planted onto his bed, and screamed. “FINALLY!“
Footsteps pounded up the stairs and Kana burst through the door. “Shut up, you runt! I can’t enjoy my food when you’re being weird!“

Nakamura sat up, still smiling. “Nothing can bring me down from this, Kana! I am invincible!“

She cringed and left, not bothering to close the door.

“Hirose’s finally mine!“ Nakamura exclaimed, giggling madly.
