Chapter Text
There was one truth that Remy LeBeau knew he couldn't escape; you can't steal love.
He had no problem stealing that priceless jewellery, or those expensive artifacts, but a persons love? Their trust, their comfort? Gambit couldn't steal that if he tried.
The Thieves Guild wasn't known for being soft, as evidenced by the broken ribs that made it so difficult to breathe. As hard as he tried, the stabbing pain wouldn't cease, and Gambit knew he had to escape sooner rather than later. His hands were only bound together by rope, meaning his attention could be directed onto the guards that stood in-front of the door. All he needed was the smallest distraction, and he knew he had gotten it by the sound of the 'kaboom' that echoed off of the concrete walls.
With the guards leaving Remy forgotten, he made quick work of the rope, before slowly getting up and trying not to jostle his chest. Even so, every movement caused only further pain to his ribs. He held them gingerly, moving through the maze of halls in search of the source of the blast. As he shuffled along, the building only became more ransacked, with holes scattering the foundations. Peering through one of the holes, he could see his team fighting for him, searching for him. But he couldn't see her..
''Remy! Are you here?''
That voice. She had came for him.
''Right over here chère. Now don't you be worrying about old gambit, eh?''
''You've been gone for days! What even happened to you, sugah?''
''Ah well that story is a long one, ya see? How about you get me patched up first?''
He could see the concern creased into her face, her eyes holding her worry. Then, without warning, she scooped him up, flying through the roof of the building and into the Blackbird, where Beast was already waiting.
''Ah found him Hank, but he's been hurt..''
As Beast patched him up, he could see Rogue pacing around, trying to help any way she could. It's almost like she wanted to fuss him. That concern that she held in her eyes, it was one he had never seen before. Maybe Remy LeBeau couldn't steal her love, but perhaps he could earn it instead.
