Summary:

It burned.

It always did whenever Mizuki would watch shows like this, but this time it was worse than ever.

What were they doing?

Watching a sappy teenage rom-com, that's what.

It had shitty editing, a terrible plot, and even worse graphics.

But it somehow, somehow had made its way into their heart, breaking their walls of security down.

Notes:

Heyy

I've played pjsk for about 6 months now, and I can proudly say that Mizuki's the best. Ena's my favorite, but still . . .

Oh, before any confusion ensues, Mizuki uses they/them pronouns as this is focusing on her middle-school self.

Yes, I am a big Mizugirl supporter, but I don't want to push an agenda on younger Mizuki as she clearly had presented herself in a different way.

That as well as Sega using they/them and she/her pronouns when talking about Mizuki!!!

I was intrigued on how the characters are portrayed, and what makes them different from their high-school selves.

I have had this plotline sitting in my brain for about a week now, catching flies like a rotting piece of flesh. With it coming to the end of the school year, I believe that it would be a good time to catch up on creative writing exercises (that I very much did not do) throughout the year.

I hope that I could uplift someone wanting a sweet, character analysis-like multichapter fic.

And remember!!

Make sure to sleep, or take a nap if you're able.

Stretch your body ( especially your spine from the shrimp position (i hate you intense voice) )

And drink water!!!

Chapter Text

Mizuki sat, sprawling themselves across their couch. If Yuuki had ever seen them doing such, she would have certainly reprimanded them.

They are wearing a very comfortable, and very worn poorly-translated star wars shirt. It says 'フォースと共にあれ', which is supposed to be a translation of the english pun 'May the 4th be with you' (‘May the force be with you’ ).

Mizuki didn't find it amusing when Yuuki bought it, but she grinned and told them what it meant in English. It wasn't funny, but it made Yuuki happy, so it made it fine.

Mizuki groans, wiping a hand down their face. This is so stupid.

Television is blaring with crappy western drama. The show is nothing special. It has terrible acting, the few words that Mizuki could catch were incoherent, the editing was shit, and my god. The outfits were an eyesore.

But enough criticism. The show is your typical middle-school romance. A girl goes to a new school, gets bullied, starts liking a guy, said guy falls in love with her bully, and she has to 'win him back'.

The plot is confusing, Rui would claim that it was downright stupid, and that his robots could do a better job than this, 'how could you win someone back when they weren't yours in the first place??' Mizuki wondered during a night of binge watching.

As bad as it was, Mizuki found themself rooting for the new girl. They guessed it came from a longing to be able to stand up to their bullies, or to even be able to find the confidence to join clubs or even talk to people.

Mizuki was pulled out of their thoughts when a blood-curteling scream erupted from the bright screen. She fell. After so much looking up to the terrible writing, and longing for a developmental arc, Mizuki stared in horror as her body hit the ground.

There were no words to describe the amount of . . . Pain? Relief? Or maybe it was even a selfish desire to be in her position.

There was the distinct crack of bones, and the screen dimmed while ever so-slowly zooming on the main character’s face. It looked . . . peaceful. Like someone who was content with their situation, and decided to take a nap.

. . .

Nothing could have prepared Mizuki for this ending. After 12 episodes of enduring the shitty quality, it ended. Not in a magnificent flourish of light, or even the main character getting a kiss from her crush. Nope. Just blood splattered, and a black screen.

Mizuki starts freaking out. They grab their phone, quickly texting Rui on Nightcord.

Amia: She killed herself.

Mizuki cringes rereading the text. It's mildly concerning, but there's no going back now.

Kamishiro: Who??????

Mizuki.

Seriouly

Who.

Mizuki tries to stabilize their breathing.

Amia: The girl in the show I told you about

Kamishiro: oh

are you okay?

Amia: no

im shaking

andbit hurts to breathe

Kamishiro: Take a nap and call me if anything.

Mizuki takes a deep breath and holds it as they lay down and close their eyes.

I'll hold my breath. Hopefully I'll die in my sleep. If I don't, I'll tell him at school.'

Mizuki drifts off into a sleep, keeping their breath held.

They will wake up disappointed to the fact that they can open their eyes and see the swallowing darkness of the living room.
