Chapter Text

It was midnight, toons were all heading back to their toon rooms after a long day of being around children. The toon handlers were cleaning up and getting ready to leave. Moonlight slipped through the glass roof in the main part of the Gardenview center. Everyone was sound asleep, except one of the mains. Sprout, or Sprout Seedly.
He was awake, making batches of cookies even though his handler–Sam–had told him not to bake if all the handlers left, just in case of a fire. Sprout didn’t feel like listening tonight. Sprout was lost in thought and needed something to get his mind off of said thoughts, he also found it rewarding having to chase out Yatta from the kitchen during her midnight sugar eating.

Sprout was baking sugar cookies; he would grumble in frustration whenever he would fail with icing the cookies. “This is Cosmo’s thing.” He would mutter underneath his breath. He sighed and sat down the frosting and stared at the sugar cookies, the dim lighting wasn’t much help. But he couldn’t afford to turn them on and risk waking up someone.

Sprout heard the elevator door open to the Diner, he gulped and looked to his side, expecting the worst. But he let out a sigh of relief when he saw it was just his best friend, Cosmo. Cosmo had just woken up, pretty obvious of how he yawned and rubbed his eye. “Sprout?” he spoke up “What are you doing up?” he asked, the sleepiness was audible in his voice. “Nothing.” Sprout started, “Just–baking.” he said awkwardly and biting into one of the horribly iced cookies.
Cosmo raised an eyebrow, “I thought Sam didn’t want us to cook after they all left?” Cosmo walked up to the counter; Sprout bit his lip. “Well, I just needed something to do.” He fiddled with the end of his scarf. “I couldn’t fall asleep.” he said, looking away to not meet Cosmo’s gaze. Cosmo knew that sprout was lying. “You’re still thinking about him, aren’t you?” Cosmo crossed his arms, Sprout sighed and continued to fidget with the end of his scarf “...I–... Yeah.” he muttered and his eyes darted back to the cookies.
Cosmo sighed, a small smile formed on his face. “Do you want me to help you ice the sugar cookies?” He asked, slightly tilting his head to the side. Sprout sighed in relief and took another bite out of the previously bitten cookie. “Yeah, that would be nice.” Sprout rubbed his neck sheepishly. “Thanks, Cos.” he said with a smile as he watched Cosmo start to ice the cookies.

After a long thirty minutes they parted ways and headed back to their own toon rooms, sprout went through the door that said “MAIN CHARACTER TOON ROOMS” he sighed and opened the door and shut it gently behind him, he was careful to not make any noise. But apparently, he did, Astro exited his room, his blue blanket was wrapped around him as he looked side to side with his half-lidded eyes. His gaze stopped on Sprout, Sprout flinched and cleared his throat, a small blush was visible on his face.

“Heya, Astro.” he said, he was embarrassed to be caught, and to be caught by Astro, Astro was left confused “Sprout?” he started in his tired voice, 'Why on earth are you up this late?” he muttered in a quiet whisper. “I was baking.” Sprout replied. “I was baking sugar cookies,” he finished. Astro smiled softly, that smile caused Sprout to shiver slightly. “That sounds lovely.” Astro said, “I would love to try some in the morning if that’s alright.” Astro tightened the blanket around him and looked up at Sprout for his response, Sprout nodded “Y-Yeah! Of course you could try them.” Sprout said his words a little too fast causing them to slightly fumble. Astro chuckled quietly “Goodnight, Sprout.” he muttered and shut the door, “Night...” Sprout muttered out, his blush went away as he awkwardly shuffled back to his bedroom.

Sprout opened his bedroom door and shut it quickly when he entered, he flopped down onto his bed and buried his face against his pillows, he let out a quiet groan of embarrassment and sat up. His eyes scanned the room; his bedroom was decorated with tons and tons of his own merch he was given whenever new ones were created. Small scarves he was given from Bobette every Christmas along with new baking gloves he was given last Christmas. His room was dark, only small portions of light seeped in from the dim lighting in the hallway. Sprout laid back down and closed his eyes, wanting to get this night over with. And soon enough he drifted off to sleep for the night, all snuggled up in his strawberry patterned bedsheets.
