Average Finntress Oneshot

Notes:

Dialogue heavy, I know. I'm doing this for the fun. Posting before the draft expires. Might update later if I feel like it.

Work Text:

A few days have passed since GOLB was defeated. Finn the Human, and the Hero of Ooo, along with his friends, survived the battle. But even though they won, Finn had lost his treehouse, being left only with the memories of his old home. Since him and Jake (and BMO!) were homeless now, Princess Bubblegum was letting them stay in her castle until they found a new home.

Finn pushed the door open and entered the room. Jake was already on his bed, playing an action game on BMO's cracked but still functional screen. When Finn closed the door, Jake heard the sound and looked over at him, pausing his game to stretch over to his side and wrapping an arm around him.

"Hey, Finn! It's pretty late already." Jake looked down on his wrist, now shaped like a massive wristwatch. "What took you so long?"

"Uh, my head's still a bit messed up about that day." Finn kept thinking about the near-death experience and the treehouse's destruction, and it messed him up. "I thought taking a walk would help me clear my head, but it's not helping as much as I wanted it to." Jake wrapped his other arm around Finn, pulling him into a tight hug. BMO jumped off the bed and ran over to hug Finn, but could only reach his legs because of his own height.

"You'll be fine, dude. Me and BMO are always gonna be here for you." Jake's hand kept patting Finn's back.

"[and me too!]" BMO chirped with a smiley face.

"Thanks, bros." Finn enjoyed the hug for a few more seconds before pulling back. A thought came into his head. "Actually, I think I'm going over to the forest. Maybe the scenery will help out." He grinned and pulled himself free from the hug. Right as he about to walk out of the room, Jake's hand grew and covered the doorway, preventing Finn's departure.

"Oh no, you don't!" His hand grabbed Finn and held him far from the door. "It's night already, and I don't want you defenseless in that forest!" Jake looked at Finn's missing hand.

Finn groaned. "Come on, man! You know I went through worse!" Jake's grip loosened, allowing Finn to drop onto the ground. Jake frowned, but stopped blocking the door. "I'm going to the forest. It won't take too long, OK?" Finn approached the doorway, but BMO ran over and stood in front of him.

"[finn, maybe jake is right. you should stay and play games with us!]" BMO's screen changed to display one retro-style game, then another, trying to convince Finn to stay.

"I'll be back soon, BMO. Then we'll play a ton of games!"

"[oh, ok... hooray! bye, finn.]"

Finn waved both goodbye, and headed to the castle's exit. Jake sat down on the bed to continue his game, then noticed that he forgot to save his progress. "Nooooo!"

He walked through the castle. He was greeted by a few banana guards on night duty. Outside, the Candy Kingdom was empty, since most candy people were asleep by now. Finn walked until he entered the forest.

The moonlight was the only thing that made it possible to see in the forest at night. The forest smelled even greener than before, if that's even possible. Finn walked between trees and bushes, and eventually found a nice log to lie down. The cold breeze hit him, and for the first time in a while, he felt at peace, as if all his problems faded away and got replaced by pure contentment. He started thinking about his friends and how they were finally safe. He closed his eyes...

"Hi, Finn." Finn opened his eyes and stood up immediately, startled by the sudden voice. But then he noticed it was just Huntress Wizard, his more-than-a-friend, with a small smile on her face. A few arrows floated beside her, glowing green in the dark. "I didn't expect to find you here. City folk's usually inside their homes by now." She sat down on the log, and the arrows disappeared. Finn sat down next to her. "So, what's your business?"

"Hi, Huntress." Finn chuckled, scratching his nape. "I came here because I needed to cool my head off. You know, after what happened."

"I get it. What a day." Huntress Wizard placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed gently. Then, her expression turned serious. "Ahem, I actually need your help with something. If you don't mind." She looked away, clearly trying to hide her blush out shame for asking for his help. But Finn didn't mind.

"Oh, what's wrong?" Finn stood up and held his hand out for her. "I'd be glad to help a friend out, HW." He dapped her up and stood up.

"... it's a massive bear creature. Call it 'John'. It came from the north and is disrupting the balance of the forest." She glances at the grass and the trees, an expression of longing. "I've been trying to drive it away, but it's very persistent and keeps coming back." She summons the arrows once again, looking very dangerous once again. "The forest needs John dead."

Huntress began walking, and Finn understood that she wanted him to follow. She stopped in front of a branch and snapped it off the tree it belonged to. Then, she grabbed a dagger she kept inside her robe and started carving the wood into a thin tube, then tying a pointy rock at its end using a vine. "Every time I try to attack John, it manages to grab and throw me away." She gave him the spear.

"Math." He said, admiring Huntress' work.

They walked until they found a tree to hide behind, and waited for John to appear and ambush it.

"So, what's the plan?"

"I'll attack it and knock it to the ground, and you'll stab it in the head ONLY when I tell you to. Not before, not after."

"Ok, let's do it!-"

Loud footsteps came from their left, indicating the arrival of the bear. Finn took a look at the bear from behind the tree. It was massive, brown, had a mean face and stood on its hind legs. Huntress Wizard jumped from behind the trees and started attacking the bear with her arrows. Despite the attacks, the bear didn't seem to take damage at all. Huntress Wizard climbed onto its head, punching his head repeatedly while summoning more arrows to throw. Finn waited for her signal, but she didn't call him.

"HW...?" He yelled.

"Not yet...!"

The wild animal raised its paws and tried to punch her off its head, but she kept dodging his swipes over its head by jumping. Eventually, a half dozen arrows managed to break John's balance and make it fall to the ground on its belly with a loud thud. However, she fell too, and the bear managed to grab her in its paw.

"NOW!" She yelled, her breathing constricted by the bear's grip.

Finn nearly forgot he was part of the plan, and ran in the bear's direction. Huntress summoned more arrows, and threw them at the same time as Finn stabbed the bear right between the eyes. Blood spattered all over him, staining his shirt and hat with red.

"Aw dangit it... is it dead?" Finn asked, grossed out by the mess they made.

"Definitely." Huntress Wizard jumped out of the bear's limp paw, smiling. "Thanks for the help, Finn. And sorry about your clothes."

Finn shrugged, and laughed. "Hey, I've gone through worse." He looked at the bear, then at Huntress Wizard. "Anything else?"

Huntress Wizard's face became serious again. She stayed silent for a few more seconds.

"Well, yes." Huntress Wizard approached Finn and took off his hat. His blonde hair was short this time. Huntress Wizard placed her ungloved hand on his hair, gently guiding his head closer to her own face. "Just one more thing." Her face got closer to his, and she gave him a peck on the cheek. She pulled back as soon as she was done. Her cheeks were a dark green color now. Finn chuckled, rubbing his hand on where she kissed him. He was burning up like crazy.

"That was cute."

"Your turn, Finn." Finn was caught off-guard by her comment, but proceeded anyway. This time, he took his lips to hers. And tongue too, yuck. It lasted for a full minute before they pulled out of the kiss at the same time. She laughed.

"Tongue, Finn?" She still held his hair.

"It's just a thing I heard coup-..." Finn stopped. He wasn't ready for the C word yet. "People! I heard people kiss like that, yeah."

"Let's go." She let go off his hair and grabbed his hand. They started walking through the forest. "You should clean up at my place."

"Dude, Jake would scold me so bad if he saw me like this."

Once at her home, Finn jumped into the river and started cleaning up. He could tell Jake he swam in the river, and find out a way to get rid of the bloodstains later. While he rubbed off the blood from his skin, Huntress Wizard watched him from a boulder. Once satisfied, he got out of the water.

"See you later, Finn." She stood up from the rock and went in for a hug, despite him being wet. And he went in for another kiss again. They made out sloppily for a while before he left (😭🙏).

Once back at the Candy Kingdom, he quietly opened the door to his temporary room. Jake was still playing games on BMO, and his eyes were bloodshot from looking at the screen too much.

"Finn... you're... back...zzzzz..." And Jake fell asleep immediately, snoring loudly.

"... Why are you still awake?" Finn looked at BMO.

"[jake said he would stay awake until you came back.]" BMO hopped off the bed. "[why are your clothes wet... did you swim?]"

"Sure, I did."
