They were almost out, they could see the cave opening in front of them. Wemmbu, Jaden, Cod, Egg, and Yungy all running for the exit.
The spider felt sweat cold drip down his face, his chest heaved with every step . He sprinted , hand clutched around his sword. His eyes darting behind constantly to check for any followers. But nothing. It felt wrong, surely the king would have sent someone.
"Come on!" Wemmbu yelled from the front, pulling Cod up and out of the caves mouth. Jaden following shortly after by using a wind burst.
Yungy was just about to help Egg up when something…or someone pushed him back down. He yelped in surprised, hitting the stone ground hard with a grunt.
Egg turned back eye wide "Yungy!" He dropped down, ignoring Wemmbu's protests.
The spider coughed, arms aching. He could feel his elbow start to bleed where it had caught him on the stone. He blinked a poor attempt to see through the dust that was kicked up from his fall. "What the fuck-"
"Behind you!"
Yungy bolted up, jumping back and out of the way of a sword. It clashed against the ground, leaving a deep scar in the rock. "Yungy, Yungy, Yungy." A deep voice echoed out from the dark. "Why do you run? Don't tell me you are just abandoning the kingdom."
The spider froze, dread pooling in the pit of his stomach "King Arachnid." He met the kings eyes, a look of terror clear on his face. "What..What brings you here my King?"
The king hissed, "Are you seriously going to choose some traitors over the kingdom you helped me create." It was less of a question more of a statement. The king knew that if he hadn't intervened Yungy would have run right out of that cave. And well. He couldn't have that happening.
"Yungy.." Egg whispered his name, his eye trained on Yungy.
"Look at you, what happened to my most loyal guard." The king spit.
Yungy frowned, his eyebrows furrowed "Your the one who threw me to the side for Wemmbu of all people!" He stepped forward, pulling his sword out of his inventory, the blood from his elbow seeping down onto the blade. "I tried so hard to prove myself and you never once showed me any gratitude for it!"
"It was just part of the plan, I had to test how loyal you actually were. I guess you have shown how much a failure you are. Like always."
"W-no-no Arachnid I wasn't-." He stopped. He knew he would leave. He knew he would leave and never come back. But his king saying it made his chest burn life hot coals.
King Arachnid grinned, he knew he was right. His eyes traveled past Yungy and they landed right on the angel behind him. A scowl evident on his face
"Now" He stepped forward. "Are you going to fix this problem or not?" His mandibles clicked irritatably. Eye's narrowed as he pointed at Egg. "It's the kingdom. Or this waste of time angel."
Egg stepped back, wings and hands shaking. He trusted Yungy…right? He wouldn't hurt him. But he couldn't help but draw his bow. He couldn't help but step away, his heart threatening to beat out of his chest.
"Please…don't make me do this." Yungy looked down, his knuckles white as they gripped the handle of his sword, his terrified regret filled eyes staring back up at him. "Don't make me do this." He whispered, teeth clenched together as he met the Kings eyes.
"Come back to the kingdom, you'll reign as my second in command again." He offered, and offer that sounded so great. To have his title back, to have his power back…but Egg-
"Yungy."
The spider turned around, red eyes meeting a single blue one.
Egg's voice was soft, a look of pain flashing in his eyes "Come with us. Please." He held his bow in his hands, the sight made Yungy want to cry. Never had Egg ever held a weapon at him down here in the caves. But here he was now. Bow drawn like Yungy would attack him.
"I can't just leave-" he choked, tears prickling at the corners of his eyes.
"But you can, Yungy please come with us." His wings shook as he walked towards the spider, his bow lowering to his side. "Come with me." He held out a hand, praying that Yungy would take it.
Yungy felt trapped, stuck in between someone he loved and his King.
On one hand, he could be powerful again, he could be feared and respected. Finally taking the spot he rightfully owned that Wemmbu has taken from him.
Or, go with Egg. Be free to do what he wanted. Go where he wanted and just live his life with Egg and the others.
He looked to the ground, hiding his shame from the angel "I'm sorry-". Egg watched in horror as Yungy stepped away, sword drawn at him.
Arachnid laughed, the sound making Yungy's ears ring as he stared at the ground blankly. "Very good, I knew you wouldn't fail again." The king hissed, placing a hand on his second in commands shoulder, he leaned forward, whispering a threat "Now hurry up and kill him before I regret bringing you back."
Egg had a arrow drawn, "You could have come with me." He silently cried. Bow shaking in his grasp, he didn't understand why Yungy wouldn't run away. This stupid king has hurt him over and over yet he's still loyal? Why!?"
Yungy lifted his head, sword pointed at the angel. "I can't abandon my home Egg. I can't just leave them all." His words were sharp like his blade. The quivering in his voice was gone, now jusy a dry empty feeling filled the void.
He stepped closer, ready to swing. To follow his kings command. As he raised the blade something collided with it pushing him back.
"I told you we couldn't trust him" The purple demon spat. Yungy went still his throat feeling dry. This was a test. From both sides. From his king. And from Egg. He failed again.
"wait-" he tried to make sense of his words, his panic rising as he stepped forward again. Only to be met with the edge of a mace. Wemmbu held a scowl, a low threatening growl accompanied his glare.
"No more waiting, I'm sick of waiting! You made your choice." He turned his head, tail flicking.
"Egg, Jaden is just a little ways up to help you out. Go."
Egg turned away, unable to meet the spiders eyes. He couldn't look. Not after it was clear what was more important to him.
Once Egg was out Wemmbu followed without a word.
Yungy fell to the ground, cursing as he slammed his fist into the rock. "Dammit, DAMMIT." He yelled, his words echoed around him.
He cried hard, cried for what he could have had, cried for the life he choose, cried because he knew he fucked up.
