Work Text:

The sound of argument filtered out of the front door. A blond, frustrated man was yelling at his gray haired roommate, who was sitting on the couch reading a book. This was what was pissing him off! He always acted so ‘calm and put together’ when they argued and it always pissed Kaveh off.

With the slam of the front door, Kaveh was gone. Briefly, Alhaitham's gaze flitted around the room, first to the table next to the couch, then the clay bowl by the door. Everytime Kaveh left, it became a habit to check those spots as his roommate had a poor tendency to forget his keys, sometimes his briefcase, on desperate days, even his mora pouch. With precision, Alhaitham snapped his book closed, going about his day now that the loud one was gone.

The rest of their day went by- Alhaitham having an eternally uneventful day as a Scribe. He easily moved into his position but his unflappable nature made it impossible to actually give him trouble, much to many’s dismay.

As usual, he was the first one home. He unlocked the door with ease, noting the quietness of the home and figured his roommate was either working late or went out drinking without telling him. He simply turned on a lamp, sat on the couch, and opened the book he was reading earlier.

A few hours went by and he heard the tell-tale jingling of the front door. He could hear the slurred (and overly loud) voice of Kaveh outside. He was rambling about some report that he needed to get done. To Alhaitham's chagrin, the door burst open revealing his (very) drunk roommate and another man.

The first thing he noticed was the man’s arms wrapped around Kaveh- specifically watching as the man moved from his shoulders to his waist, his fingers curling. As the two burst in, Kaveh noticed Alhaitham sitting on the couch and frowned.

“Wh-whuh? What are you… doing up?” His feet unsteady, voice uncharacteristically soft. Alhaitham didn’t say anything, nor did he seem to look ruffled, but the way he stood up too quickly was a glaring tell. Too bad Kaveh was too drunk to notice.

The man with his arms draped around Kaveh seemed a little shocked to see a man sitting on the couch. He nodded his head to Alhaitham, who was moving towards them. “Oh I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you’d still be up. I’m Kaveh’s co-worker, I was taking him home after inviting him out.”

Alhaitham narrowed his eyes, coming to stand directly in front of the two. Kaveh was mumbling to himself, not seeming to feel the tension happening between these two. Alhaitham’s eyes dropped to the man’s hands resting on Kaveh’s waist again before his mouth became a thin line.

Without any preamble or words, he simply reached forward, pulled Kaveh in by the waist, and closed the door in the co-workers face, who was purely stunned. He didn’t feel the need to waste words on the man.
Kaveh on the other hand, stumbled forward as Alhaitham pulled him close, letting out a grunt of surprise. He squinted his eyes, looking slightly up at the Dendro user's face. “Wh-What's your deal? Allllllll…ways causing problems huh…” His words were slurred, no real heat behind them as he lightly smacked Alhaitham’s chest.

Rolling his eyes, Alhaitham pulled him further inside, towards the couch. His arm draped around his body, hand curled perfectly on his waist. “If anyone is causing problems it would be you.” He replied matter-of-factly. He set Kaveh down on the couch, watching him loll around with a small smile on his face.

He exited the room swiftly, grabbing a glass of water and some headache medicine before finding his roommate now sprawled on the floor. An exasperated sigh left the man’s mouth as he set the water and medicine down before reaching down to pull Kaveh up.

As he did, Kaveh launched himself directly into Alhaitham’s arms, burying his face in his neck, causing the gray haired man to freeze for a moment before wrapping his arms back around the other. He could feel Kaveh’s breath against his neck, mumbling words he almost couldn’t make out, “You smell sooooo good. Mmm my Haitham.” His words were soft and barely audible, but made Alhaitham squeeze him tighter.

“Let's get you some medicine and I’ll take you to bed.” He whispered gently in the architect's ear. Kaveh just nodded as followed Alhaitham around like a puppy.

They ended the night tangled up in Alhaitham’s bed, Kaveh refusing to let go.
