Chapter Text
Being born was Suguru's first mistake. But being born as an Omega in a society dominated by Alpha’s and Beta’s was his greatest misfortune.
If only he had been born as an Alpha or even a Beta. Either would have been much better than the life the heaven has chosen for him. Being born as an Omega was not too cruel but it was also not too good, especially if you are born in a poor peasant household.
The nobles adore their Omega daughters and sons. They fed them, educated them, dressed them in the finest silk and even gave them comfort and security. And when it's time for their children's marriage, they search for the best alpha and marry them off, giving part of their wealth so when the time comes, they don't have to depend on their husbands money.
But for peasants, however, their Omega children were nothing more than a burden. Omega required protection and its family duty to protect them until they are set for marriage but for poor Omega who are born in low families, they were never required any protection nor given any resources.
For them, they're the burden of the family who could not plough the fields nor lift the heavy loads or even perform the labour that was required for an Alpha or Beta.
Due to this, some of the families sold their children for money or marry them off at an early age. Some of the Omega lost their freedom and life while others kept quite trying to survive into this harsh life.
Suguru, who had seen this, has always lived in fear of ‘what if’. What if the same thing happened to him? What if, one day it's his turn to be sold to a stranger? Or be married off to an old Alpha or Beta who has many children and were the same age as him? What if, like his friend, his fate was also the same as every Omega?
The question haunted him. It lurked inside his mind no matter how hard he tried to ignore it. Yet, despite his fear, he trusted his parents. Convincing himself that his parents won't let any harm fall upon him.
He still remembers the day he was presented. The pain he had gone through. The fever that burned his body as if he were put in a fire. The breath that hurted everytime he took. The touch of the blanket that made his skin unbearable as it was too much for him.
For five days, he went through this hell. If he was a girl it would have been a little painful but he was a boy, his inside was changing. His body was changing. The pain was so much that he even thought he might die.
But his mother was always there, never leaving his side as exhaustion darkened the skin beneath her eyes. She watched him worriedly while fetching the cold water from time to time and replacing the damp cloth from his forehead. While his father, leaving his work in the fields, ran back and forth between their home and the village doctor, carrying rice in return for his medicine and check-up.
On the sixth day, when the village doctor finally confirmed he was an omega, instead of silence of disappointment, his parents cried in joy as they wrapped him into a warm hug. Their happy, warm and comforting scent made him tear up as his mother kissed his forehead while his father patted his head.
“Thank the heavens,” his mother sobbed, pressing kisses on his cheeks while his father talked with the village doctor who gave him a prescription of what an omega should be needing and doing.
“Thank you once again, Mura-isha1. You saved my child” His father bowed to the village doctor who smiled and looked at Suguru before walking away.
Suguru who was now crying because this was not something he had expected unlike his friends parents who used to tell him about their parents after their manifestation.
“Why're you crying, Suguru? Does it hurt somewhere? Should I call mura-isha again to check on you?” His father worriedly walked towards him but he shook his head and buried his face in his mother's shoulder.
“What happened? Hmm? Tell your Kachan2and Tochan3.” His mother softly says as she rubs his back.
“...A…Aren't you both sad that I'm an omega and not an Alpha like Tochan or a Beta like my friends?” Suguru mumbles but his words were clearly heard. His mother worriedly looked at his father who made a sad face as he took the seat beside his mother.
“Suguru. Our precious boy, we are not sad. What made you think like that?” His father asked as Suguru lifted his head from his mother's shoulder.
“Oh my dear suguru.” His mother whispers, gently brushing away the tears clinging to lashes.
“The…The children in the village say that Omega’s are troublesome, that the parents only want strong alpha or beta…and…and I am neither.” He clenched the blanket in his small fist. “They even say… Omega’s job is to only…make babies and take care of the household.”
This made him tear up as the whole house felt silent but suguru made an ouch sound when his father suddenly flicked his forehead. Not too hard for his sick son, but enough to make Suguru look at him.
“Whoever told you that is a big idiot.” His father frowned while his mother giggled beside him.
“Tochan! Kachan!” Suguru whined as his father looked at him very seriously.
“Carefully listen here, Suguru.” his father said as Suguru looked at his father. “Did I ever tell you that I wanted you to be an Alpha?”
Suguru shook his head.
“Did your mother ever tell you she wants you to be a Beta?” His father asked him again, he shook his head again. Then his father who was frowning, softly smiled as he patted his head.
“See? We never wished for an Alpha, Beta or an Omega. All we wished was for you.” His father finished as his mother nodded her head making Suguru eyes wide widened as his mother cupped his chubby cheeks between her warm hands.
“You know, when I learned I was going to have you, I always prayed to the heavens for my child to be born healthy.” His mother then softly rubs her nose to his making him giggle.
“And when you got that terrible fever, your mother and I were so worried and terrified.” His father said, while his mother's eyes were once again filled with fresh tears.
“ We thought we might lose you. Those five days were the longest days for us.” His mother said as she looked at him. Her worries clearly showed on her face.
“You know how much we prayed to the heavens? That all the pain and fever you were going through should be given to us and for you to wake up” Suguru's eyes widened as his mouth started to wobble. He hugged his mother who also wept with him.
“Nothing else mattered,” his father says. “Not your second gender. Not what the village says or your friends. What matters right now to us is that our son has finally woken up and is in great shape.” His father, too, wrapped his arms around both of them.
“You are our greatest blessing, Suguru. Alpha, Beta or Omega…it doesn't matter to us. What matters is you’re our son and we both are very very proud of you.” Listening to these comforting words and wrapped around the warm scent, Suguru couldn't help but smile through tears.
But now, however, that memory felt like nothing more than a dream. A dream he found himself returning to again and again. Slowly, Suguru lifts his gaze and looks around the room, his eyes eventually settling on the bronze mirror. For a long moment, he stared at his reflection and found a complete stranger looking back at him.
No more chubby cheeks as it was replaced with a sharp jawline and elegant feature. His face, which used to be bare and untouched, was now painted with rice powder, his soft pink lips painted in red pigment and a sharp neat eyebrow that's was drawn with haizumi4. His eyes which used to sparkle were dull as the reflection of him. The simple cotton clothes which he used to wear were now replaced with 12 layers of expensive silk fabric. He looks so different that he has forgotten what he actually looked like before.
The young boy who was always smiling, always beside his parents, always running through the fields with his friends until the sun disappeared, no longer existed. He tore his gaze away from the mirror now settling towards the person seated directly from him.
A pair of bright blue eyes met his own reflection. The eyes, he both loved and hated. Suguru once used to stare at those eyes that held so much of gentleness and love for him, that it used to ache him for not wanting to be far away from this man.
But now, he hates it. This was the same man who whispered about love and longing into his ear every night. The same man who spoke about devotion was also the reason Suguru is here. Suguru lowered his gaze as the man started to come near him.
A cold finger slipped beneath his chin, the man gently tilted his head upward, forcing their eyes to meet.
“You've been avoiding my gaze again, my love.” The man murmured, though Suguru had much to say, yet he kept silent.
The man's thumb brushed lightly against his lips as his blue eyes glinted with something Suguru no longer decipher.
“Are you perhaps angry with me?” The man questioned. Suguru carefully looked at the handsome face of the man who had caged him here.
“Do you want to know?” This time he asked and the man halted as he stared at Suguru. Silence fell upon the room as the man's jaw tightened and his grip on Suguru's chin.
“Hn!" Suguru hissed in pain, as the man let go of his chin and got up. He looks at Suguru for a few moments before walking out from the room. His footsteps echoing at the floor until it didn't.
Suguru closes his eyes, as warm tears spill from his eyes, tracing paths down his powdered cheeks. But Suguru did not care to wipe it off or correct the powder.
Suguru's biggest mistake was to be born. His second biggest mistake was to manifest as an Omega and his third biggest mistake was to be seen by Gojo Satoru.
Because the moment the bright eyes had fallen upon him, Suguru's fate was already being tied to him. Gojo Satoru had looked at him only once but it was enough for the powerful Alpha to make him fall in love with him and marry him.
It's been four years now and….
