Y/n yawned and rubbed her eyes. Megumi looked up from his desk, pen stopping on the paper he was writing on.
"You tired?" He asked, turning his body half towards her.
"Kind of, but we have movie night with everyone soon." She said, sitting up properly.
He groaned. "Don't remind me."
Y/n smiled and hopped off the bed, walking over to her boyfriend. She leaned down and wrapped her arms around his shoulders from behind, pressing their cheeks together after giving him a kiss.
"You love your friends, don't even lie." She hummed.
"Get away from me." He grumbled, but didn't push her away.
Sometimes he may act like he isn't fond of physical affection, but he did, he liked it a lot. Y/n was always soft with the way she showed him affection, always so gentle. She was sweet, gentle, and warm. However, she was also a little evil, could be kind of mean, and she absolutely destroyed him in hand to hand combat. The duality of that woman amazed him, she amazed him.
Although, they did not get along when they first met. Y/n actually kind of pissed him off, and he thought she didn't take things as seriously as she should have. She joked around on missions, and Megumi hated that. But, he couldn't deny the fact that y/n was talented.
The first time they had trained together, y/n absolutely wiped the floor with him. She'd pinned him way too quickly, and only after that did he find out that y/n had been taking martial arts since she was a child.
Even though she was open, bright, and spoke a mile a minute, one day, six months into their first year, Megumi realized that nobody actually really knew anything about her. He started to notice a lot after that day. Sometimes her smile didn't meet her eyes, and on those days, she was louder, clingier.
Even though Megumi hadn't liked her very much to begin with and made that quite clear, y/n had never given up on trying to become friends. She was never deterred by his cold or evasive personality. Megumi found it really weird that no matter what he did or said, she never gave up trying to know him. Eventually, he did soften his demeanour toward her, and gradually started to accept her offer of friendship.
That was how he learned how deep her past really ran. It happened one night when Megumi entered the communal living room area and saw her sitting in the dark on the couch, staring at the black tv screen with tear streaked cheeks and her legs pulled up to her chest. He'd hesitated before quietly sitting down next to her, leaning back against the couch. Y/n didn't even acknowledge that he had sat down, it was like she couldn't see or hear anything, and that left a bad taste in his mouth.
He didn't ask her what was wrong, but as the minutes ticked by and the dark sky sparkled with stars, y/n slowly looked over at him, finally acknowledging that someone was there, that he was there.
"Why haven't you asked?" She'd said, making him flinch at the way her voice sounded so dead.
"Didn't want to overstep." He said, voice low.
She nodded, looking back at the tv. "You're always like that."
He turned his head to look at her properly. "Like what?"
"You just..." She started, letting out a quiet sigh. "You never ask, but you're just- you're there." She rubbed her red eyes. "You don't talk much, but you observe."
Megumi swallowed hard, not liking being read like a book. "You're not okay." He stated the obvious thing they were both ignoring.
"No, I'm not." She laughed, but it was devoid of any humour. "The past really fucks you up for a long time, huh?" She laid her head down on her knees.
"Yeah." He nodded slowly, picking up on what she was saying. "It does."
They didn't speak after that, but he didn't leave, either. Y/n appreciated it.
After that night, things between the two shifted. Megumi lingered closer, eyes observing her. He was less cold, but still kept his distance during the day. But at night, sometimes he would find himself checking the living room for her, and if he did see her, he would sit. They didn't talk much during those nights for the first two months, but after that, it was like a dam broke.
Y/n spilled it all, her family, the way they treated her, the expectations, the way they got physical, all of it. Megumi listened, he didn't interrupt her, he didn't tell her everything would be okay, but he did let her lean against him, he did wrap his arms around her when she needed it.
Then, on a particularly quiet night, sitting next to y/n with his arm around her as she leaned on his shoulder, he realized he didn't just tolerate her anymore, he liked her. He liked being around her, he liked her when she was quiet and when she was loud. He liked her when she was bright and he liked her when she was dull.
He liked her.
It took a few more months after that for everything to finally spill out. It happened on a mission, just the two of them were sent. It was a higher grade than they thought, and y/n was injured. She was trying to play it off as not a big deal, but she was bleeding too much. They finished the cursed spirit off, but they weren't okay, she wasn't okay. He was banged up too, but y/n got the worst of it from throwing herself in front of him when the curse snuck up behind them with its claws.
He'd tried to stop the bleeding, but it wasn't helping. She made some stupid joke, and Megumi yelled at her. She'd gone quiet and just stared with wide eyes as he confessed that he liked her, and he couldn't lose her, he needed her.
The wound scarred, and their relationship began.
There was a knock on the door, and then Yuji yelled. "Movie night, come out or I'll drag you!"
He did the same to y/n's door, unaware she was with Megumi. She let go and stood back up, watching as Megumi sighed and stood up next to her, rubbing a hand over his face. Y/n leaned up and pecked his cheek before leaving his bedroom. She walked into the living room and plopped down on the couch next to Nobara. The others were scattered around the living room. Yuta, Maki, Panda, Inumaki. The first and second years were not there, and there was only six of them in total between the two years.
Megumi grabbed a blanket and sat down next to y/n laying the blanket over both their laps. Y/n smiled and her hand found his under the blanket. Yuji sat down on the floor and leaned his back against the couch, blankets and snacks strewn about.
Two movies passed by before y/n's eyelids started to droop. Megumi let go of her hand and snaked his arm around her shoulders, pulling her into his side so she could nap.
When the movie finished, Yuji got up to find more snacks. Nobara got up and flicked the lights on. Y/n groaned at the sudden brightness, as she was half asleep, and turned more into her boyfriend's side. Yuji stopped and stared at them.
"What's all this?" He asked, grinning.
"What's what?" He asked.
"You two! Do you like her?" He teased, making everyone else turn their heads towards the two.
"Uh, yeah?" He asked, a little uncomfortable and confused.
Yuji gaped. "What?!"
Nobara's eyes widened. "You like her?"
Y/n slowly blinked her eyes open, looking at the expressions on everyones faces. Shock, disbelief.
"What?" She sat up and rubbed her eyes tiredly.
"They're asking me if I like you." He rolled his eyes.
"Oh, obviously he likes me." She laid her head on his shoulder.
"You are being way too calm about all of this." Nobara said, crossing her arms over her chest. "What's going on here?"
Inumaki blinked as he stared at them, Maki seemed kind of disinterested but also kind of curious at the same time, Panda was eating popcorn, and Yuta was just sitting there.
"Is it weird that my boyfriend likes me or something?" Y/n asked, effectively causing chaos.
"What?!"
"You're dating?"
"Since when!"
"Salmon?"
"Seriously? Him?"
"I did not expect that."
Y/n and Megumi blinked at them, clearly confused.
"Uh, yeah? You guys didn't know?" Y/n furrowed her brows. "We've been dating for almost a year."
"Dude! You didn't tell me? I thought we were best friends!" Yuji whined.
"I didn't think we had to tell anyone." Megumi rolled his eyes.
"I can't believe you didn't say anything." Nobara said pointedly to y/n.
Y/n scratched her head. "Well, I thought you guys knew? It's not like we hid it."
"You act like you hate each other most of the time." Maki pointed out.
"Salmon." Inumaki nodded.
"Do we?" The couple looked at each other.
"I don't think we do." He said.
"You do!" Yuji pointed at them. "Y/n is always making fun of you when you spar and you tell her to shut up."
"That's just how we banter." Y/n laughed.
"He said he hated you." Noabra said.
"He didn't mean it." She rolled her eyes. "He loves me."
"He loves you?!" Yuji's voice raised a few octaves.
"Megumi loves someone?" Maki's eyebrows went into her hairline.
"I think you guys are cute together." Yuta smiled softly.
"Thank you, Yuta." Y/n said.
"This is insane." Yuji shook his head.
"I'm leaving." Megumi grumbled, standing up.
Y/n smiled and watched him give her a look before leaving the room.
Nobara pestered y/n for their entire getting together story, which she happily told. The people in the room dwindled down until it was just y/n, Yuji, and Nobara.
"I can't believe this, didn't he actually hate you in our first year?" Yuji asked curiously, sitting on the coffee table in front of her and Nobara who were on the couch.
"Yeah." She laughed. "He did, but I got to him eventually."
"Does he treat you right?" Nobara asked, sitting criss cross and facing y/n on the couch.
"Mhm." Her smile softened. "He's the best."
"Good." Nobara nodded.
"I'm glad it's you." Yuji admitted. "Fushiguro is a good guy under all the brooding, so, I'm glad he's with you. You're a good person."
"Aw." Y/n leaned forward and gave him a hug, getting one in return. "Thanks, Yuji. Now," She pulled away and stood up. "I'm going to my moody boyfriend."
She waved and turned, walking to Megumi's room. She quietly turned the knob and pushed the door open, stepping inside. Megumi was lying on the bed, back facing the door and shoulders moving slowly as he breathed. Y/n stepped inside and closed the door, silently making her way to his dresser. She stripped out of her clothes and pulled on one of his hoodies and jogging pants, tying the drawstring tight.
She tip toed over to the bed and lifted the blanket, crawling in behind him and lying down. Megumi shifted and let out a quiet groan, slowly lying on his back.
"Sorry I woke you up." She whispered, reaching up to put her hand on his cheek and swipe her thumb across it.
"S'fine." He rubbed his eyes, blinking at her tiredly.
He wrapped an arm around the back of her shoulders and pulled her into his chest. Y/n laid her head on his chest, hair tickling Megumi's chin. He closed his eyes and relaxed back into the bed, his breathing slowly starting to even out again.
Y/n wrapped an arm around his waist and nuzzled close, eyes slipping shut.
"I love you, Megs." She murmured quietly.
"Love you too, y/n." He mumbled before falling asleep.
Megumi didn't say 'I love you' often, but even without it, y/n knew. She knew that he loved her.
