Work Text:

There was no proper day nor night in the 3D realm, not in the way it existed in the 2D dimension. There was no sun nor moon nor, more vaguely, stars. There was just light, then a lack of it.

Bendu, being the idiot he was, was out venturing the dark dimension for one reason: his partner. Just in his mind. They never made anything official, but they might as well be.

Just thinking of their smile made him giddy.

He hadn’t gotten a no. Their conversation on the phone was short and sweet:

'i am coming :3'

'kys'

That was as much of a yes as Bendu was going to get!

He excitedly knocked on the gods’ door, quickly getting impatient and inviting himself in. It was unlocked. Naturally, thievery wasn’t an issue for the most powerful beings to roam the realm.

The house was just as dark as the outside, minus the light coming from the upstairs hallway. Bendu didn’t need it. He knew this place like his keyboard.

As he flew up the stairs, frustrated screeches grew louder. Bandu was streaming, by the sound of it. His voice shook the ground. He wondered if Expunged or the Bambi Minions minded, but quickly shrugged it off.

The love of his life was just behind a door five feet away.

Bendu knocked again in a rhythm only he knew. “Lord Expunged, mi amor,” he sang. “I’m here for you!”

He kept hammering his fist into the door until he got a reply: a loud, glitchy groan. That was enough for Bendu to let himself in. Again.

Their room was much larger than the house, as if it was some type of pocket dimension. It smelt stodgy, and the decoration was minimal. Mostly stray cubes, in black and red. There was a two monitor gaming set up on a desk, dark wood ridden with pale claw and bite marks, and a floor-to-ceiling closet where Bendu believed Expunged stored the Bambi Minions away.

In the middle was a bed, the god on it. Expunged wasn’t quite glaring, but in no way were they welcoming him with open arms. They’d pushed their hat off of their face, the brim clipping into their pillow.

“What do you want,” they grumbled, their voice so distorted it was hard to comprehend.

“You!” the mortal chirped, shutting the door behind him. “I can’t get you out of my head, hermosa.”

“Surprised anything’s in there for once.”

Expunged flopped down again, but they extended a hand. Bendu gladly shot over and joined them under the covers, curling against their side.

“I’m allowed to miss you,” he murmured, kicking his feet. His head nuzzled just under the god’s own, his sombrero tipping and knocking against the other’s face.

Grumbling, Expunged knocked off Bendu’s hat. It clambered to the ground. “No one said that, idiot,” they chided, untangling the mortal’s keyboard from his body. Bendu was wholly unhelpful, staying glued to the larger’s side.

He hummed, the strap of his instrument squeezing between his head and Expunged’s body. The god cast it aside, and it clattered to the ground with plasticy bangs.

“I’m gonna be very sad if that broke.”

“I like seeing you distraught.”

Bendu swallowed, his grin growing. “That’s so sweet.”

Expunged tutted, rolling their eye. “You don’t know what that means” they complained, and Bendu snickered.

A weight settled on Bendu’s midsection, and he purred. It only egged him on, not that rejection would kill his enthusiasm. Bendu pressed a kiss to Expunged’s chin, and the god’s chest rumbled with a purr of their own.

Satisfied, the couple gave into sleep.
