Mental Decline

Summary:

Ever since Pomni arrived in the circus, she thought that once she got out it would solve everything. It soon became clear, however, that that was not the case.

Almost immediately after Pomni is found in an abandoned building after leaving, she is admitted into a mental hospital. She is told over and over that the circus wasn't real once she confides in the ones she trusts. No one believes her when she says she was stuck there for months due to the fact she'd only been missing for a few days.

Slowly Pomni is convinced it really was something her mind had cooked up after passing out for whatever reason. And finally, after nearly a year in the hospital, Pomni gets her two week notice that she can leave and get back to her normal, busy life.

That's when a familiar sarcastic, apathetic voice burst though the mental hospitals’ front doors.

And he's screaming.

Chapter 1: Intro

Chapter Text

It's quiet.
There's nothing in the room of the long since abandoned C and A building besides a single computer.
Oh. And also the twenty-five year old woman laying unconscious on the ground.

For a while, her breathing was quiet and consistent. But slowly it began to pick up its pace, causing tiny beads of sweat to drip down the back of her neck. However, tears competed and it wasn't long before her tear ducts had dried up.

At the climax of her heart rate, the computer screen turned on suddenly. Whirring to life like it was from the 1950’s (it was), it started to let out a series of beeps. When the beeping finally stopped, it was silent again.
Very anticlimactic.

Pomni shot up from the floor gasping for air.
It was cold, she couldn't think straight. Her vision was blurry after removing the clunky headset, but that didn't stop her from trying to get up.

She wobbled, resting her hand on a table for balance. Even though she felt like vomiting, she pushed forward, placing one foot in front of another. Slowly, she made her way through endless halls to get out of the abandoned building. Memories started to come back, and that made her even more sick and frustrated, so she pushed them back, ignoring them. There was no time for that… she wasn't sure how long she had been gone. Who knows how everyone else was. Were they worried? They… had noticed she was missing, right? Admittedly, she wasn't the best at keeping in touch with her parents, but surely they had noticed something was wrong.

Whatever the case, she needed to get out now, before she wasn't able to ignore the memories of the circus. But then different memories started to surface. Ones of… her real life. The one before the circus.

Pomni- no that wasn’t her name. What was it? Ab- Abagail? Was that right? She couldn't be sure.

Whatever her name was, it didn't change the fact that she needed to get out ASAP.

Just as she thought she was getting close, the memories she was trying to push to the side invaded her unexpectedly. Flashes of the other people from there. Her friends. Friends she would probably never see again. She winced as more memories came by, nearly making it impossible to breathe.

She started to get slower and so did her heart rate. The next step was always harder than the last as she got closer to leaving the building. Finally, it was too much, and she fell to the ground, hitting her head with a thump. Instead of being knocked out completely, she was able to hear one last thing.

Other people.
