The calamity was happening, an occasion the Yiga clan was meant to look forward to. An occasion Kohga had been preparing for many years. But it wasn’t a happy occasion anymore. Today made Kohga wish he had never given a day of his life to Lord Ganon. They had been betrayed by their closest ally. Their numbers dwindling, the very souls of many members of the clan being sucked out of their bodies, and worst of all… there was Sooga. Kohga stared down at the man he had never dared say he loved. The man who had just nearly given his life to protect Kohga. He was lying on a stretcher, poorly fashioned out of banana leaves and branches. His mask was shattered, his uniform ripped to pieces. Not that it mattered, anyways. His face and body was covered by so many gaping wounds, barely an inch of his skin could be seen through all the blood. Kohga jumped as his eyes fluttered open. “Sooga!”- Sooga responded by coughing up blood. “i’m sorry… Master Kohga… I have failed.” Sooga finally managed to say, his voice weak. Kohga rushed to his side, wanting to grab his hand, but didn’t out of fear he would hurt him further. “No! No! Sooga! Im still alive, aren’t I? You didn’t fail! You didn’t…” Kohga started crying. Sooga smiled weakly. His eyes started to close. Kohga started sobbing. Sooga heart his master say one last thing to him as he fell into unconsciousness. “No- please don’t go Sooga! I- I love you-“
Sooga didn’t die yet, instead, he fell into a deep coma. Kohga visited every day. Bringing flowers, telling jokes to someone who would never respond. Every visit ended with him crying. He would whisper “I love you” in Sooga’s ear and leave sobbing every time. Sooga, in his half dead state, heard everything. He wished he could say something, let Kohga know he was ok, laugh at his stupid jokes, more than anything in Hyrule, he wished he could tell his master “I love you too”. But he couldn’t. He couldn’t even open his eyes to see his beloved master’s face. He was stuck in this accursed state of being, between alive and dead. The medics were doing everything they could, but the only evidence he was even alive was a faint heartbeat. It took four torturous months of this; of whispered confessions and muffled sobs, while Sooga’s heartbeat slowly grew stronger before he could finally open his eyes. They shakily opened while Kohga was hovering over him. Sooga nearly crossed the line to death upon seeing his Master for the first time. He was disheveled, his hair down and matted, his mask tied to his head haphazardly, threatening to fall off at any moment. He saw Sooga blink and started crying immediately. “Sooga! SOOGA, can you hear me, please! Say something!” Sooga would’ve given everything to respond.
More time passed as Sooga’s health improved. He could make small noises and grunts now, every one hurting so bad he thought he would die, but it was worth it. It was worth every ounce of pain to be able to grunt responses to Kohga’s questions, and chuckle at his stupid jokes. Kohga barely left his side anymore. His hair was still down, but it was no longer matted, and he was neglecting his own health less and less the more Sooga improved. Seeing his master get better gave Sooga all the energy he needed to push through. As he gradually gained more control over his body, Sooga yearned for the day he could finally speak. He yearned for the day he could finally tell his master that he felt the same. One day, it would arrive… one day. One day that moment finally came. His voice faintly rang out as Kohga went to leave. “I… love you too… Master Kohga.” Kohga ran back, his eyes watering. He cried for Sooga to repeat it, for Sooga to let his know he was okay, but the words had taken too much out of him. Once again, Sooga fell into a deep slumber.
Yet more days went by. Sooga could finally get out of bed with Kohga’s help. His long time incapacitated had allowed his body to focus its energy on healing, so most of the surface level scrapes were gone. He still looked pretty rough, but at least Sooga was no longer bleeding. Not a word had yet to be spoken about the whispered “I love you”’s. Both were waiting for the right time. The time never seemed to come. Most of there days were spent in awkward silence, both scared to bring it up, lest they had only imagined it. The silence seemed to stretch on forever. Kohga was finally back together, with Sooga having insisted to resume his responsibilities from bed. Many of the Blademaster’s he had trained with came to visit him, but Sooga didn’t care. He only cared for his visits from Master Kohga. Despite them not talking, both men were comforted by the other’s quiet presence. Sooga’s mask had been repaired, still retaining many scars from his battle with the Blight Ganons. He chose not to wear it when he was alone with Kohga. Both of them silently waited, day after day, until the silence grew deafening. “You know, I could occasionally hear while I was knocked out all that time. I wish I could’ve laughed at your jokes, or…” Sooga finally said. Kohga tried to play it cool, despite burning up inside. “Really? How much did you- er- hear?” “Everything” Sooga admitted. Kohga turned away, blushing. Sooga continued; “Sid you really mean what you said? About- well…” He stared at Kohga awkwardly. There was once again silence between them. This time Kohga was the one to break it, quietly. “About loving you… yes… did you mean it too.” … “yes.” “really?!- ahem… I thought I had misheard you.” Kohga said, stumbling over his words. They sat in silence once again. “Could you… say it again… Sooga?” “I love you, Master Kohga.” With that, Kohga lifted his mask, and whispered; “I love you too.” Before stealing Sooga’s lips into a kiss.
