Chapter Text
Critters: a class of anthropomorphic creatures capable of speech- normally some type of animal
Critters are identified by two characteristics
- Unique personal pendant
- No two critters will share the same pendants; pendants can be similar, but not the same
- Related critters can share similar/theme pendants
- Unique personal scent
- No two critters will share the same scents; scents can be similar, but not the same
- Related critters can share similar/theme scents
Critters can be any sort of anthropomorphic creature
- Normal creatures such as dogs and cats
- Fantastical creatures such as unicorns and dragons
Critters tend to be smaller than their non-critter counterparts
- Can be from 1-3 ft tall
- Exceptions can be made, as some critters can be taller than 3 ft
Critters can be born from non-critter creatures
- A talking anthropomorphic dog can have a critter pup
Critters often form individual groups ranging from 2-8 critters
- Groups can be made of family members, friends, or a mix of both
Pendants: a unique symbol that each critter possesses
Are usually worn as a necklace but can be paired with any type of accessory
- Necklace, chain, bow, etc
Pendants are made out of a special stone known as critter stone
Critter stone: a unique white stone that reacts when placed on a critter
- The stone morphs as the critter grows
- Are meant to be a representation of a critter’s personality
- Received between ages 3-5
- If Critter Stone is placed on a non-critter, it will not react
- This leads to the stone being considered rare, as it can be mixed up with a normal stone
Pendants are very personal for each critter and are rarely ever taken off
- Taking or wearing another critter’s pendant without their permission is forbidden
If a critter lets another ( whether they be a critter or non-critter) wear it, it signifies high trust
- Repeated wear of a critter’s pendant means the individual is loved and cared for by the critter
- Critters will normally hint at an exchange with other critters
- NOTE: Not all exchanges must be reciprocated- a critter can let another wear their pendant as a sign of desire for closeness,
the other critter does not have to return the gesture
Relationships between critters can be identified depending on how often and how long they wear another critter's pendant
- Critters that are family/are seen as family will wear and exchange pendants frequently throughout their lives
- Friends will do the same, but less frequently
- The level of closeness will be indicated by how often this happens
- Critters who want to start a lifelong romantic relationship will exchange pendants for 2 weeks before starting an official courtship
- Pendants may be linked as a sign of seriousness
- Critters do not need to be dating to do this
Fake pendants are sometimes made using other stones
- Can be identified as critter pendants have a special shimmer and smooth feel to them that can't be replicated
Scents: a unique smell that each critter has
Scents appear 2 months after birth
- A dog critter will still smell like a dog, but will be overpowered by their unique critter scent
Critters have an underlying smell that lets others identify the type of creature they are
Critters who are just meeting will take a quick sniff of the air to identify other critters' scent
- A non-critter can NOT sniff a critter- it is considered rude
- You will freak them out
Critters with complementary or similar scents will often form groups with each other
Critter scents can overlap over time, the longer they are around/ spend time with each other
- Other critters can pick up the small lingering scent among the normal scent, but not the mixed scent
