Chapter Text

A bizarre incident occurred in the outskirts of an American suburb called Raccoon City. It was later revealed that the terrible disaster had been caused by the T-Virus: a mutagenic toxin created by the international enterprise Umbrella, Incorporated for use in bio-weapon experiments. The Raccoon City Police Department's special S.T.A.R.S. unit immediately began an investigation in the affair. But the case was apparently closed thanks to the efforts of S.T.A.R.S. and its elite members. But the Umbrella Corporation's experiments were far from finished...

It was dark, the cold midwestern air blowing in my face as I rode down the lonely road ahead of me. I looked at my gauge, needing to find a gas station of some kind. I looked to the side of the road, seeing a truck stop next to a large diner. Perhaps they would know where the nearest gas station was. I quickly turned my blinker on and drove over to the truck stop, watching a large semi-truck pull out of the station with a huff, driving down the road. I got off of my bike, before putting a pump into the gas tank. I then headed towards the diner, finding there was no one around as I stepped inside.

"Hello!?" I called softly, "anyone home?"

I walked around the diner, the building appearing to be abandoned. I then heard what appeared to be some kind of chewing sound. I quickly walked over to the source of the sound, finding a man hunched over another.

"Excuse me?" I asked gently.

Suddenly, the man stopped chewing and turned to face me. But he was no ordinary man, he was ghastly! His skin was rotting and peeling, blood oozing out of his pores. His eyes were pale gray and he was moaning at me.

"Woah! Easy there ..." I shuddered, I then flipped around and noticed a large hoard of people that looked just like this rabid man approaching the building.

I realized I was surrounded, so, I quickly darted over towards the nearby side exit. I pushed through the door, expecting some knight in shinning armor to come save me. However, no one was there. I then hurried out of the alleyway, another hoard of these rabid people behind me. I looked to my bike, seeing it was too overrun by these things to actually get to it. They looked like zombies out of a bad horror movie so I decided to call them as such.

I then turned, noticing an abandoned car in the lot. I quickly ran over, busted the window out with my elbow, and hopping inside. I was a great lockpicker as well as a specialist in motorcycle customization so hotwiring this car was nothing new to me. I quickly flicked the wires together as the hoard of zombies approached me. It finally flickered to life, allowing me to put it in reverse, skid to the side, and drive off.

Once the diner was far in my rear view, I breathed a sigh of relief. Happy that I had finally escaped that hoard of zombies. Just what the hell was going on here!? Why was everyone acting like this!? Something was terribly wrong and I hoped that my brother, Chris, was not in the middle of it.

...

I drove for what felt like forever, passing under dimly lit light poles before I finally reached the heart of the city of Raccoon. The city appeared to be somewhat abandoned, with overturned and destroyed cars surrounding the roads. I could smell the potent odor of smoke and sulfur. Signaling that there were fire's nearby. I had to get out of this area, find Chris, and get the hell out of dodge. My first instinct was to head to the police station of the Raccoon Police Department. They would have tons of guns and possibly know where Chris went.

So, I decided to turn a corner and head in the direction of the police station. I knew where it was from the map I had gotten of the city before my long drive over here. I could see a few corpses in the street's, my eyes watery from the tears of seeing such death and destruction. What could have caused this? Had it really destroyed the city?

Suddenly, I ran into a blockade of cars and trucks, some of which were on fire. I quickly stepped out and approached the wall of vehicles. I then heard a nearby groan, I turned and noticed a group of zombies approaching me. I quickly turned and darted over the large wall of cars. Heading for the main gate of the RPD station.

I could hear the hoard of zombies approaching me from behind. I quickly closed the gates and locked them tightly just as the zombies got towards the gate, clawing and scratching at it. They snarled and growled at me, begging to take a bite out of me. I shuddered and quickly turned around, passing by the bags of dead officers, and heading into the police station.

Inside, the doors closed tightly behind me. Echoing around the interior of lobby. I then headed down the stairs, checking the nearby door by the desk, finding it to be unlocked. I stepped inside, finding it to be some kind of office area for the staff of the department. I then turned and noticed a bloody body by some lockers. He was a dark-skinned officer with a large bloody gash on his stomach.

"What happened here, Officer?" I asked him.

"I ... we should have ... listened to them! The S.T.A.R.S.! They ... they warned us ..."

"Wait, you know S.T.A.R.S.?"

"Yes, I knew all of them. W-why?"

"Well, I'm looking for my brother, Chris Redfield."

"Chris? You're ... his sister?"

"Yes, I'm Claire, what's your name?"

"M-Marvin ... Marvin Branagh. Your brother ... left for a European vacation some time ago. Lucky bastard. I ... I don't know where the others are."

"The others?"

"Leon, Jill, Rebecca, Barry, and ... and Brad ... ah!" Marvin then sighed, rubbing his wounded stomach. "You ... you should go ... get out of here."

"No ... I can't leave you ... besides, I don't even have a gun."

"Take mine," Marvin told her, handing me a black Berretta 92FS. "Now go!"

"Please, I-"

"GO!" Marvin screamed.

I flinched at the sudden tone change in his voice, before nodding and leaving the room. Once outside, I heard the door lock. Signaling that Marvin wanted me out of here. Nonetheless, I wasn't done with my investigation. I wanted to discover where Chris truly went and if there were other survivors in here. Maybe I couldn't save that Marvin fellow, but I could save anyone else in the building.

I quickly put my Berretta close to my chest before heading over to the door next to the one to the room Marvin was in. I stepped through the door, finding an empty waiting room. On a nearby seat, I found a note. I quickly ran over to the seat, picking up the note to read it.

POLICE MEMORANDUM

8/23/1998
This letter is just to inform everyone about the recent movement of equipment that has happened during the precinct's rearrangement.

The safe with four digit lock has been moved from the S.T.A.R.S. office on the second floor, to the eastern office on the first floor.

"2236"

Raccoon Police Liaison Dept.

I made a mental note of the code given before heading out. I held my gun close as I passed a window and entered the door to the next room. I could have sworn I heard something crawling on the window outside, but I pushed such a thought out of my head. Nothing could possibly crawl on a building, maybe a spider, but there was no way it would be so large.

As I stepped into the room, I found the remnants of a number of barricades over the windows to prevent the zombies from getting in. Trash was scattered everywhere. I ran down the hall before turning the corner, seeing the dead body of an officer. His head was gone, seemingly twisted off by something. Did a zombie do this?

I continued onwards, lightly tiptoeing down the hall. My boots clicking against the floor. Ahead of me was a large pool of blood, I then heard something breathing from above. I nervously looked up, seeing a horrid thing crawling across the ceiling. It had red skin, no eyes, an exposed brain, and large claws. It looked down at me, sticking out its large tongue.

It dropped to the ground, hissing at me. I nervously gulped and aimed my weapon at its head before firing. It flinched before screeching at me. It then leapt towards me, I quickly ducked out of the way, watching as the creature skidded on the ground behind me. I quickly turned back to the door at the end of the hall before running towards it. The creature rushed to me, leaping at me once more. I didn't dare turn back as I stepped through the door and closed it in its face. Sealing it off onto the other side of the door.

I sighed, leaning against a nearby wall. I then burst into tears, the feelings of this place finally starting to hit me like a truck. I had watched so many people die. What was happening? Why was this happening? Was there any possible end to it? I wiped my tears, telling myself that I couldn't break down now. Not when there were zombies and those damn licking creatures running around. I had to finish up here and get out of here. That was my mission now. Do one more sweep of this place before leaving.

I held my gun tightly, nodding. I was ready to move out.
