Chapter Text
The sun beat down on Sadie as she walked beside her brother and mother on the sidewalk. Summer break had just begun for Sadie and her brother, Arthur. Their mother decided to bring them to the Museum of Natural History. Arthur had been complaining the whole walk, but after being quietly berated by his mother, he had quieted down a bit.
They soon arrived at the museum. Their mother let them wander without her. They were responsible.
Well Sadie was.
“If anything happens, I’ll be near the front.” Their mother said before leaving the teens to wander around. Suddenly their mother turned and called them again.
“Oh and stick together! If anyone tries to grab you scream!” She said before walking over to the large t-rex skeleton.
Arthur had lead Sadie to the diorama area. He always loved the little cowboy diorama as he called it. Though today he had a mischievous grin on his face. He looked around, this section was pretty empty. Just him and Sadie. No one else. He giggled giddily to himself them reached into the diorama and picked up one of the cowboy miniatures. It was his favourite miniature, and had been since he was little. He liked the little bandana it had, and it was probably the most detailed one in the diorama.
Sadie had been looking at the Mayan diorama, but when she looked back at her brother she gasped indignantly
“Arthur stop you’re gonna break it!” Sadie hissed into Arthur’s ear. Arthur brushed short blond hair from his eyes. He scoffed at his sister and began to fiddle around with the little toy. The limbs could move, but they were very stiff. They creaked slightly as he moved them, and it almost felt like the miniature was trying to keep its arm in place. It had a surprising amount of resistance. He heard a little snapping sound but paid no mind
“Sadie calm down… its not gonna—“
There was a crack growing across the arm that Arthur didnt notice. He twisted the arm just a little lower.
Snap!
Arthur fell silent. The miniature’s little arm had snapped right off into his palm.
“Arthur you idiot!! Mom’s gonna be so pissed” Sadie said, storming over and snatching the cowboy miniature from her brother’s hand.
“Do you have any glue?” Sadie said urgently, turning the miniature and its arm over in her hand a few times.
“Why the hell would I bring glue to a museum?!” Arthur snapped back.
Sadie let out an annoyed groan. She put the cowboy back into place on the diorama, but shoved the broken arm into her pocket.
“Tomorrow we’re coming back and we’re gluing the arm back like nothing happened!” Sadie whispered, “and don’t tell mom this happened…”
The pair quickly left that section of the museum and went elsewhere.
