Chapter Text
“Okay, Momo. You’ve got this. You know what you’re doing, just stay on the right path and everything will be fine.”
Some people have daily affirmations, Momo just prefers to speak to herself. She is perfectly reasonable and logical. Always.
And today she starts her very first day at UA.
Momo has always been good at school, it’s kind of her thing. And when she opened her acceptance letter to one of the most prestigious schools in all of Japan, her parents borderline threw a banquet in her honor. They’ve always sort of spoiled her rotten.
Momo knew how deeply her parents loved her, and that would never change. Right? Right.
So there she was, sitting at her vanity, brushing her long straight hair until she was satisfied and pulling it up into a neat ponytail.
Arriving at her classroom door, she walked in with a sense of purpose and took in her surroundings. Finally, people surrounding her who would take school just as seriously as she does. She’s always been a straight A student, Momo has worked incredibly hard to get to where she was. She has never cut a single corner in her life. She studied hard, volunteered in the community, and did everything she possibly could to get an academic leg up. This is how Momo showed her worth. She knew she was smart- she had to be with her quirk. But she honestly enjoyed school and learning. She loved the thrill of figuring out a difficult formula and watching everything fall into place. She loved being able to recall the perfect literary quote for any situation. And secretly, she loved how good it felt when the adults around her would praise her for her knowledge and treat her as an equal. It was scintillating. And now perhaps she’d be able to have some more intellectual conversations with her peers considering that status of UA.
She just may need to avoid the boys yelling at each other about putting feet on the desk.
She’s noticed a few quieter individuals much like herself. There’s a seemingly cold boy with red and white hair, a large boy with a mask over half his face, and a boy with a head shaped like a rock. Realizing her focus has been on the men of her class, she changed gears to observe the girls, see if there are any possible new friends in the making. The one with brown hair and pink cheeks seems awfully sweet, and so does the frog- like girl. The invisible girl and girl with pink skin seem a bit too boisterous for her at the moment, but perhaps in time? And then, then there’s a girl with headphones on. She seems completely comfortable in her own skin, and God what Momo would do for confidence like that. She had an easy going demeanor, yet Momo still felt uneasy for no discernable reason. Must just be first day jitters kicking in…
But anyway, so far everyone has seemed wonderful; her classmates are kind, her homeroom teacher is reliable, and this is going to be an incredible year.
She may have spoken too soon.
Everything was going according to plan until the day the class took a trip to the USJ. Momo felt confident and prepared for a day of simulation training, but ended up encountering real villains. The one with the warp quirk scattered them all to make it easier to pick them off. But Momo would not let this stop her.
She was sent off to an area with her classmates Kaminari and Jiro. He was a blond boy who has an electricity quirk. And Jiro, she was the girl with the headphones, who has soft looking hair the prettiest shade of purple Momo has ever seen, a confident smirk most of the time, and has her ear phone jacks to amplify her heart waves.
Well that’s kind of poetic.
Anyway. The three of them were doing their best fending off the group of villains they were up against. It was mostly Momo and Jiro doing the heavy lifting- and Momo recalls a passing thought that the two of them made a good team.
Momo was making weapon after weapon, and Jiro was flinging some of them tat the villains using her jacks. They were doing well enough, but they really stepped it up when Jiro kicked Kaminari into one of the villains and he was able to use himself like a living stun gun. She was a genius! Momo followed her lead and created nets and metal poles to help him amplify.
This was exactly the leverage they needed!
But they still needed more. Momo was making something big, and appreciated her classmates for buying her the time to do so. When it was finally ready, Momo dropped to the ground and let it explode out of her back- a sheet of insulation 100mm thick. Once she explained what it was, Kaminari instantly understood his assignment and went all out.
Momo and Jiro were well protected by that insulation sheet, and it was just the two of them. Having absolute confidence in her shockingly competent electric school mate, Momo could almost describe the situation as cozy. The insulation was warm in its efforts to stand up to the electricity both in and out of the sheet. The two girls were huddled close together, their breaths mingling. The soft glow coming from the aforementioned electricity. Momo had never been this close to a girl before. Their fingertips brushing against each other as Jiro seemed to be coming closer and closer.
Momo hadn’t even realized she’d blown her top off again until Jiro threw herself in front of Momo to help preserve her modesty in front of Kaminari- not that he was coherent enough to know what was going on anyway. Momo was touched by that kind gesture, and it quickly shook her out of the stupor she was sinking into moments ago. This must be what that “girls supporting girls” thing she’d read about meant. Momo was quick to assure her new comrade that it was fine, she could make a new shirt. But she also thought she’d heard the purple haired girl mutter something about her being “totally punk rock”.
One of the villains must have had a heat related quirk, because Momo couldn’t figure out another reason why her ears and cheeks were suddenly warm.
Well then, welcome to hero school, Momo.
