Yellow is conflicted. It hadn’t even been a week but she still became flushed anytime she was near Blue Pearl. She had no clue on what she was feeling or what it meant.
It was a normal day for Yellow, jotting down notes for the next upcoming event and listening to her Diamond’s explanations of everything. As she was about to finish her speech, Yellow Diamond says something that catches Yellow Pearl’s attention.
“Wait. May you repeat that, my Diamond?” She asks, very interested.
Yellow Diamond grunts in frustration but sighs softly and repeats herself.
“Pink is going to get her first ever colony. You and Blue’s pearl will choose which planet she will colonize.”
Yellow couldn’t have felt more proud. Not necessarily for Pink but mostly for herself. She got to pick a planet for Pink Diamond to conquer. Along with that, she got to spend time with Blue Pearl.
“I’ll get started right away!” Yellow Pearl says excitedly, walking out of the room.
“Wonderful. That will be all.” Yellow Diamond says, waving her hand.
Yellow walks down the hall, eagerly looking for Blue Pearl.
When she finds her in Blue Diamond’s room, she almost runs at her in excitement.
“Blue! Pink Diamond is getting her first planet.” Yellow steps towards her, trying to act professional.
“Is that so?”
Yes and we get to be the ones who will choose the planet for her.” Yellow says proudly, adjusting her hair.
“How nice. Let us go, shall we?”
“Go along, my pearl.” Blue says softly.
“Understood, my Diamond.”
The gems leave the room, their fingers nearly touching.
The two pearls sit together in the observatory, deciding which planet to choose for Pink Diamond. There’s an awkward feeling in the air as they try to make a decision.
“How about this one?” Blue taps on the projection, displaying a rather odd looking planet.
“No. Too odd looking.” Yellow responds sternly.
“This one?” Blue points at another planet, a spiky one now.
“No, it likely has a lack of proper space.”
“Well..What should we choose then?” Blue asks quietly.
Yellow thinks for a moment, but her thoughts are distracted by the gem in front of her.
“Well….maybe we should….” Yellow starts to say, quickly getting distracted with the projection.
Blue takes a minute before she tries to also control the projection.
“Hey…I’m trying to do something!”
“But…just hold on…”
Their hands accidentally touch each other while the pearl’s try to choose a planet on the projection. Yellow quickly moves her hand away in embarrassment while Blue just stares at her.
“Uh….sorry.” Yellow mutters
“It’s fine.” Blue mutters back.
They both stare at each other for a moment before Blue moves closer to Yellow, making her both confused and flushed.
“What are…you…?”
“Yellow, I…want to fuse again…”
“I….” She pauses, her hand moving onto Blue’s shoulder.
“I do too.”
Blue takes Yellow’s hand and it doesn’t take long for the gems to fuse together.

The gem opens her eyes, taking in her surroundings.
“Blue…! Yellow?” The gem blurts out, stumbling up to her feet.
“Did we….? Wow, look at you now!”
The gem excitedly observes her body, giggling softly as she does. She gets so distracted that she doesn’t hear the door opening.
“Excuse me, have yo-“ Pink Diamond’s Pearl enters the room, stopping as she looks at the fusion.
The gem whips around and sees the pearl standing in the doorway. They stare at each other for a moment before the pearl silently leaves.
The gem quickly unfuses, with Blue and Yellow both being slightly flustered.
“Did she…?”
“Yes, she did.”
Yellow groans into her hands, frustrated that she can’t just be with Blue as a fusion. She quickly gets up and chooses a random planet on the projection.
“Here…Pink can go to this planet….”
“Okay..” Blue mutters quietly.
Yellow moves to leave the room but a hand stops her. She turns and looks down at Blue, who’s still sitting on the floor.
“Can we still fuse…?” She asks.
Yellow considers the question. It would be extremely risky to continue fusing together, especially with the reputation of fusion on Homeworld. But at the same time, fusing with Blue was a feeling she hadn’t felt before and she didn’t want to let go of her feelings.
“I suppose so… but we must be subtle about it.”
“Understood.”
The gems leave the room after the decision. An odd relationship on the horizon.
There was to be another court meeting. Well, at least it would’ve been. It was actually a celebration for Pink Diamond for her achievement of the beginning of her first colony. The pearls were all assigned to set up the party. While Pink’s Pearl was entirely focused on the job, Blue and Yellow were getting distracted at times.
“We shouldn’t just use pink for the colour scheme. What do you guys think?” Pink’s Pearl asks the two.
Yellow thinks for a moment before standing up from her seat.
“We should use yellow, it blends very well with-“
“But that’s your colour. Blue, what do you think?”
She takes a moment to think, her fingers tapping softly against the table. Yellow sits back in her chair, annoyed.
“I….I think that maybe….” Blue says quietly, still taking a while.
Yellow notices and puts her hand on Blue’s shoulder without saying a word.
“Maybe….red? I’ve heard that Pink Diamond likes red. A..Along with that, pink is a shade of red and that’s a good thing, right?”
“Well…yes, why not do red along with pink?”
As Pink’s pearl turns away from the other pearls, Blue puts her hand over Yellow’s.
“Wait, I actually meant to tell you both something.”
Yellow moves her hand away as Pink’s Pearl turns back to face them.
“That being?” Yellow responds
“When I went to check you both in the observatory, neither of you were there and there was another gem.”
Blue and Yellow look at each other in anxiety.
“I..Is that so?”
“Yes, and I couldn’t see their gem so I couldn’t identify who or what it was.”
“It might have just been a quartz soldier…you know how those gems are.” Yellow says awkwardly
“It sure didn’t look like it.”
Yellow smiles nervously, nudging Blue’s foot from under the table.
“I do believe we left the room for a bit and a gem could’ve entered unknowingly.” Blue says.
Pink’s Pearl looks at the two suspiciously. Thankfully for the two, she turns back and only mutters something to herself before switching the subject back.
“We all need to do different tasks.”
The Pearl projects a list of tasks the pearls could do.
“What do you think you’ll be doing?” She asks the others.
“Can I…..work on the lighting?” Blue asks softly.
“Of course.” She jots down Blue’s name on the lighting section.
“And you, Yellow?”
She considers her options for a moment. She could be a waitress for the other gems. She could just be an observer to make sure it’s going smoothly. But she got both a clever and risky idea.
“Could I do the sound work? I am the best at it of course.”
“Right.”
She jots down Yellow’s name.
“We’ll also have to get some quartz’s to do other jobs for the celebration.”
Yellow nods, not really focusing on what she’s saying. Yellow will be with Blue during the celebration and they’ll be alone. How come she feels anxious about it?
“Alright, I’ll have to get a bunch of gems for this. You two mind staying here for a while?”
“Yes, don’t mind us. We’ll be just fine.” Yellow says way too quickly, earning an eyebrow raise.
Pink’s pearl leaves the room, leaving the others, alone.
Yellow almost immediately stands up, moving to the other side of the room. Blue stands up and slowly walks over to Yellow.
“Are you okay?” Blue asks, lending her hand out.
“We almost got caught…” Yellow whispers.
“I know, but thankfully she didn’t-“
“No no! You don’t understand Blue! If we got caught, we’d be shattered at worst!!”
Yellow starts to internally panic a little, the fear of being caught fusing making her anxious around anyone.
“Yellow, we won’t be caught by anyone…”
“You don’t know that! If either of our Diamonds or any high ranking gem found out…” She says fearfully, curling up on the floor.
Blue sits right next to her, patting her back softly. Yellow, for probably the first time in a thousand years, felt scared about something.
“What if we get caught? What if we get shattered or seperated forever?” Yellow whispers into her arms.
Blue stares down at her, unsure of how to comfort her.
Yellow sits there in fear until she feels someone wrapped around her. She lifts her head to see Blue hugging her.
“What are you doing…?”
“I am…unsure. I’ve never had to do this before..”
Yellow laughs, which makes Blue laugh. The two laugh at each other for a bit. Yellow feels a little better and stares at the gem who holds her.
“Do you think…we’ll be okay?” She asks nervously
Blue thinks for a moment before nodding, hugging Yellow a bit tighter.
“I doubt anyone would suspect two pearls to be….intertwined…”
“Intertwined? That’s an odd word choice.”
“I…I couldn’t think of anything else.”
The two laugh again, holding each other lovingly.
Yellow feels more comfortable and looks at the gem above her in genuine love.
“You know…I’ve never actually seen your face…fully that is.”
“Yes, you haven’t.”
Yellow lifts her hand, brushing against Blue’s hair. The gem jumps a bit at the contact.
“Do you mind if I…?”
Blue stares at her for a moment before shaking her head.
Yellow smiles and moves her hair to the side, finally seeing her face.
She looked normal but her eyes look cloudy. Her face is noticeably flushed and her eyebrows are slightly furrowed.
“You….look really pretty….” Yellow says, mesmerizied.
Blue blinks at the compliment, her face completely flushed now. Yellow giggles at her reaction, moving her hair back to her face.
“It’s true.” She says, a genuine smile on her lips.
Blue smiles at that, moving up and helping up Yellow.
The two stare at each other and moves slightly closer. Before anything can happen though, they hear footsteps approaching and shuffle back to their seats.
Pink’s pearl opens the door and enters with a semi exhausted smile.
“I’ve gotten the quartz’s for the celebration. We’re all good to go.”
“Wonderful. If I may, I’ll excuse myself as I have duties to attend to.” Yellow says out of nowhere, standing up.
“Uh…okay?”
Yellow turns and exits the room, very excited for the celebration.
It was a few days before the celebration, the gems were still in the planning stage. They were mapping out the party scene along with making sure every gem was doing their jobs. The pearls were given the job of bossing everyone around.
“You will be coordinating the dances. You will be there. Don’t touch that!” Yellow rambled on to the quartzes.
Blue stayed relatively calm, choosing to quietly assign jobs to the quartzes. Yellow was yelling and acting smug.
After a while of being bossy, Yellow felt tired and walked over to Blue.
“I can see why my Diamond loves to be assertive towards lesser gems.” She says, sitting next to her.
“Really? That’s nice.”
“Mhm, it’s honestly nice getting to tell everyone what to do.”
Yellow turns and sees that Blue was drawing, this time the quartzes setting up the layout of the party.
She smiles and stands up, tapping Blue’s shoulder.
“Drawing again?”
“Yes.”
“How about you draw me? Your last artwork of me was very good, of course.”
Blue stops for a moment before turning to face Yellow.
Yellow quickly strikes a pose, attempting to hold it for as long as possible. Blue silently begins to draw her.
She tries to focuses on her keeping her pose but her gaze falls onto Blue constantly to her confusion. She feels flushed and tries to ignore it.
“I’m done.” Blue says suddenly.
Yellow immediately stands normally, kneeling to see the artwork of herself. She can’t help but feel happy about the fact she’s been drawn by Blue.
“That….looks really nice…” She says, mesmerized by the art.
“Yeah? Although I can’t see it that well, I’m sure it looks nice.”
“It does. And you’re a really good artist.”
Blue stiffens at the compliment, not expecting it. Yellow also pauses, realizing what she’d said and Blue’s reaction. She stands up and walks away in embarrassment, leaving Blue to be confused.
Yellow tries to ignore the awkward feeling around her and Blue for the rest of the day.
It was the day of the celebration. Blue and Yellow Pearl had already made their way to the underground tech centre where they’d control the sound and lights. The quartz’s were doing all the other work in the actual room.
“Is the sound working?” Blue asks from the other side of the room.
“Yes. The lights should be too, right?”
“Yes, they are.”
“Wonderful. You’re very smart, Blue.”
Blue noticeably gets flustered at the compliment but stays silent. Yellow fiddles around with the buttons, bored with testing the thing she already knows about. She turns and chooses to walk over to Blue. Yellow leans over her shoulder and watches her test the lights.
“You look nice doing this.”
Blue stifles at her words. She stands up suddenly and looks at Yellow, clearly not enjoying the compliments.
“What..?”
“Why do you keep complimenting me…?”
“What do you mean…?” She asks, genuinely curious.
“I….I don’t know how to react and it feels like you’re not being genuine.”
Yellow blinks and moves closer to Blue, her hand brushing against her face.
“Hey…I’m being honest, okay? I really do mean it…”
“Really….? I..I don’t see why-“
Yellow laughs, her hands resting on Blue’s waist.
“Blue, you really can’t tell I’m being serious? I’ve never felt this way before and I’d never lie or act rude about it at all. You want to know why I keep complimenting you?”
“Yes, please tell me.”
Blue says, her hands moving to Yellow’s shoulders.
“Because I….I uh….love…” Yellow’s mind suddenly goes blank, her buried anxiety creeping up.
“I….want to be you forever.” She says instead, leaning closer towards Blue.
Blue Pearl stares up at her before pushing her lips against Yellow’s. The two stumble over and kiss each other, their hands clasped together.
Blue pulls back slowly, the gems both panting softly against each other.
“You….what was…?” Yellow tries to say but can’t.
Blue’s hair was now slightly messy and her face was partially visible.
“Heh…..at least I get to see your face….”
The two start to laugh, quietly at first. They hold each other and continue to laugh.
“I want to be with you forever.” Blue whispers.
“Mhm. That’s not what I wanted to say though…”
Blue raises an eyebrow, smiling a bit.
“What were you going to say?”
Yellow puts her hands on Blue’s cheeks, pulls her face closer to her’s.
“I..love you..Blue Pearl…”
Blue puts her hand over Yellow’s, her expression of gratitude.
“I love you too…Yellow Pearl…”
Their gems start to glow and they fuse again.

The gem opens her eyes, sitting up slowly.
“You hopeless romantics…” She says.
The gem stands up, seeing a mirror and observing herself. She didn’t even have a name.
“Huh…I didn’t realize I looked so…pretty..”
She laughs at her comment, touching her face and body.
I think….Emerald is a good name…”
Emerald walks back into the edge of the tech centre, sighing and then they unfuse.
Yellow and Blue stand together, holding hands. They smile at eachother before walking back to their stations. The speaker in the room suddenly starts to speak.
“Attention! Attention! All gems who are setting up or testing for the celebration, you have one more hour before Pink Diamond will arrive!” The voice announced.
The pearls laugh quietly before continuing testing the sound and lighting.
One Hour Later…
Pink Diamond’s celebration was ready. It took a while but eventually she entered the room and was shocked to see the party set up. The music was bustling, the lights shone brightly and full of colour.
Everyone was partying and celebrating Pink while the pearls get distracted with their romance.
“Can I….kiss you again…?” Blue whispers as she sits next to Yellow.
“Yes…” Yellow whispers back.
Blue moves closer and kisses Yellow, her hand resting on her shoulder.
The pearls enjoy the celebration together.
