Chapter 1: Dark Clothes - For Stealth

Chapter Text

Tim was bored. He had exhausted everything he could do that was actually interesting three whole days ago! And monopoly isn’t fun without anyone to play with. He had already combed the internet for anything regarding Gotham's vigilantes (his super-secret special interest), and the frustrating lack of content was the reason Tim had run out of things to do. He had already watched every video featuring the two, four times! Heck, he even figured out their identities! (Tim was pretty sure he wasn't supposed to know that though, so shhh.) And anyways, that was three days ago and now Tim is bored. How could he possibly be neighbors with the two coolest people on the earth–Batman and Robin!–and have become bored.

The internet wasn’t churning out any more anything on the dynamic duo and it was really starting to get on Tim's nerves. Someone needed to get more pictures of the two asap! And with a good camera so it's good quality! Like the camera Tim's parents got him for his Birthday (4 months late…). Someone who could regularly get photos! Like a kid who lives near them and has little to no adult supervision. Someone who wouldn’t be spotted easily! Like a kid who's been invisible his whole life.

Tim should go get photos.

Himself.

Maybe it could be dangerous, but who was going to notice when Tim disappeared anyways? His parents might actually thank him (for the first time). Plus, if he takes them he can be sure they're to his liking. He'd been practicing his photography on small critters in his back yard. How much harder could it be to snap a picture of a bat rather than a squirrel.

It was Friday night and Tim was on his very first expedition. He needed to find Batman and Robin. He didn’t exactly know how to do it, but he did know he definitely needed a police radio as soon as he could get his hands on one. For know he was just hoping the bat signal would light up the sky.

Tim had been wandering around the city aimlessly, taking photos here and there of things he found interesting, adjusting so his camera could take good pictures without the flash so he wouldn’t give himself away. He had a few of the skyline, one of an alleyway illuminated by neon signs, advertising self-employed fortune tellers and artists who hadn’t quite taken off yet.

Finally though, the sky was illuminated with the symbol of the bat. Tim snapped a quick photo of the light in the sky, letting out a pleased hum at the results. Maybe he wasn’t too bad a photographer at all. Tim could get used to this.

He quickly climbed up a fire escape near the GCPD building and settled there with his camera, content to wait for Batman to show up. Tim snapped a quick photo of just the commissioner, silhouetted against the bat signal. While it would be cooler if it had the bats in it, the positioning was too perfect and the potential for a good photo was way too good to not snap a quick shot of it.

In a few seconds the bats of Gotham descended to talk to the commissioner about whatever the reason for the bat signal was. Tim took several photos from different angles. He could go through them later and pick which ones he liked, but right now he wanted to make sure he got a good photo.

Tim had half a mind to follow the bats to whatever crime they needed to stop. But Tim wasn’t stupid. Sure, he was reckless, but not stupid. And he knew that he would definitely get hurt and blow his cover if he followed them. The bat signal was for the really bad guys and maybe Tim could work his way up to that by starting by following the bats to petty crimes, but right now Tim could not follow them.

Instead, Tim would go home with the knowledge his disguise does work.
