It’s silly. Foolish even.
Pangi stares at the open flash games tab on his computer. There, unmoving, the Love Meter game from the stream is staring back at him.
Lukey went to grab himself a snack – Pangi asked to grab him something as well, Lukey joked about not being his servant, but then proceeded to wink and disappear behind the door. Now his voice springs from the kitchen, vivid and vibrant, followed by the softer sound of Pangi’s sister's laughter.
The game is still staring at him, daring Pangi to be opened.
He hovers his mouse over the close tab button. It’s silly. Ridiculous. But… if he is quick, it's no harm done, right? It's just curiosity and nothing more than that.
He moves his cursor away from the tabs bar and clicks on the game swiftly.
The heart pops up in the middle of the screen with two empty nametags on each side of it.
Pangi types ‘Sem’ on the left and, after stalling for a few seconds, ‘Lucas’ on the right.
It's so silly. Stupid. His breathing, his heartbeat, his movements all slow down in the anticipation of the result, and only his thoughts race each other senselessly.
He clicks [Calculate Compatibility].
74%.
That’s… underwhelming.
Pangi leans back in his desk chair, the number is mocking him with how criminally not enough it is. Barely bigger than what the game calculated for him and Derapchu earlier. Pangi huffs to himself. Nevermind then. He didn't even give a fuck. At all. It was stupid anyway, nothing more than an impulse of frustrating curiosity.
“You could've just asked me instead”.
Pangi snaps his head towards the door, startled to see Lukey already standing practically right behind him, looking at the screen with a gracefully raised eyebrow.
Pangi turns back to the computer and speedruns shutting it off, like it could help prevent Lukey from thinking anything about it.
“Did you bring the snacks?” he changes the topic, spinning back to face his table, avoiding Lukey’s amusement.
“Yeah, your sister helped me make sandwiches for us”.
Lukey circles around him and places the food on the side of the desk – Pangi did not even notice that he held a plate – before raising himself to sit on the edge of it right between Pangi and his monitor.
Pangi opens his mouth to scold him for trying to break his desk, but Lukey interrupts him before he can say anything.
“But for real, you could've just asked me instead of a dumb game if you were so interested in our compatibility”, he grins smugly, staring straight at Pangi just like the game was a minute ago.
Pangi groans.
“Shut up”, he mumbles, refusing to look into Lukey's eyes. “It's dumb, let's just move on”.
He reaches out for the sandwich, but Lukey catches his hand and instead moves to rest on his knee. Pangi finally looks up at him again, confused, only to be met with Lukey's face much closer than a few seconds before and big sparkling brown eyes searching for something in his own hazel ones.
“Sem, you can ask me about our compatibility”, Lukey says slowly, tone still teasing, but earnest at the same time. “In fact, I implore you to”.
Pangi swallows the sudden excess of drool in his mouth and wipes his free hand on the jeans.
“Wh- what is our compatibility?” he stumbles over the words, his own voice sounding from afar.
Lukey looks at him for a few more seconds, contemplative, his hand on Pangi’s arms slides down until their palms are flushed against each other. Lukey’s skin, unlike Pangi's, is dry and soft.
“Hmmm”, he hums, his thumb slowly caressing Pangi’s knuckles, sending shivers up his arm to his back. “I would say, maybe… 3%?”
What?
“Oh fuck you!” Pangi blurts out, tearing his hand away, as Lukey’s face morphs back into a bright grin sounded by wild giggling. “You are a dick, dude”. He tries to get up from his chair, just so he could create some distance between them.
“No!” Lukey whines in response, basically pushing Pangi back into the chair. And the next thing he knows, he has a lap full of his best-friend-maybe-sorta-crush. “This was a miscalculation! I wasn't calibrated properly! Ask me again”.
Lukey shuffles on his lap, trying to get into a more comfortable position, and Pangi finds his arms grabbing the other’s waist before he could fall from all this movement.
“I am not going to ask you anything, this is ridiculous”.
“Please! I promise, this time the answer will be correct”.
Pangi takes a proper look at Lukey. He is sitting with his back straight, slightly leaning forward towards Pangi, he is still smiling brightly, but his lips are pressed tight, in that nervous manner, where Lukey is holding himself back from doing something. His eyes are exploring Pangi back, searching for something, Pangi doesn’t know if he can be the answer too. He hopes he can be. Lukey’s T-shirt is riding up just a tad underneath Pangi’s palms, and his pinkies are grazing the soft skin of the other’s back.
This is a torturous amount of contact. Pangi lets it happen and sighs, in defeat.
“What is our compatibility, Lucas?” he asks again, bracing himself for it turning into another bit (and hoping that it won’t be).
Lukey doesn’t answer immediately, his eyes wander over Pangi’s face for a second longer, before his whole being visibly softens. He reaches out with his right hand and gently brushes Pangi’s hair away from his forehead.
“Can I kiss you?” Lukey asks, voice quiet, like he is telling a secret.
Thank fuck.
“Of course you can”, Pangi answers truthfully. And has to physically restrain himself from adding always.
Lukey leans in even closer, taking his sweet time with it. Pangi parts his lips just slightly in expectation and can see Lukey licking his lips the second before they finally meet in a kiss.
It’s sweet and slow, nothing like Pangi has imagined all the times he desperately wanted to pin Lukey to the nearest wall to just shut him up. No, this is gentle, deliberate, Lukey tilts his head to the left just enough so that their noses are brushing against each other with every movement of the lips.
Time slows down as well. Or, at least, Pangi completely loses track of it. This kiss could be going on for three seconds or three weeks, he is none the wiser. It doesn’t matter at all, he would spend any amount of time that he can get just like this.
Lukey is the one to end the kiss, lingering millimeters away from Pangi’s lips before pressing their foreheads together, breathing out.
Pangi breathes in Lukey’s air and, in an impulse bigger than he is, reaches up and leaves a peck on Lukey’s temple.
“I don’t know how compatible we are”, Lukey/s words caress the tip of Pangi’s ear, “those numbers and predictions are stupid anyway. I want to find it out in practice”, he pauses and leans away from Pangi so that their gazes could meet. “Only if you want it too, of course”.
Pangi’s entire body is made out of cotton candy and sunshine. He can’t explain the warmth and sweetness that consume him any other way.
“I do want it. So much”, he risks sounding desperate. “I like you”.
He tightens his hold on Lukey’s waist just a little. Keeping him close.
“I like you too”, Lukey giggles. “My back is hurting though from sitting like that, so…”
Oh yeah, Pangi’s legs are numb too.
“Yeah, yeah, we probably should eat too”, he nods in agreement.
Neither of them move.
“So?”
Lukey laughs.
“Sem, for me to get up, you need to let go of me first”.
