Work Text:

Mills sighed, stretching his neck absently, rolling his shoulders back. Another late night. That was all too common these days. With his sixth final coming up he needed to study as much as he could.

He looked back at his notes, silent for a moment, his chin resting in the palm of his hand, the other hand set on Smokes back as the cat curled up in his lap. Mills sighed again, grabbing his phone and checking the time as he leaned back in his chair.

12:30

Aiden was late again. Not surprising, really. Mills opened his chat with Aiden, no new texts. He frowned, the worry unnecessary but inevitable.

“He’s fine, I mean… He’s Aiden… but still…” Mills looked down at Mango, happily waging his tail. “If I texted him, he’d definitely come home as soon as he saw it.” Mills considered absently before shaking his head. “But I don’t want to distract him. He does important work, you know?” He argued, more with himself than Mango.

With a final groan, he set his phone back down and refocused on his notes.

It was his third year in college and he was coming up on his sixth semester final. He’d taken a dorm during his first year, but moved back into his apartment with Aiden right after. He planned to get a masters in psychology and become a therapist. After everything that had happened three, almost four, years ago he’d concluded that he’d be satisfied in helping others work through their feelings.

Another hour of studying and Mills was interrupted by his stomach grumbling. He fell forward, his cheek on the paper as he stared at the empty bowl of instant ramen. If Aiden were home he’d be ridiculing Mills for not taking proper care of himself.

Mills had just worked up enough energy to get something else when he remembered Smokes still slept on his lap. Mills groaned, picking up his phone and texting Ryeong.

Mills: Can u ask Aiden to text me when he finishes up his mission? I need him to grab something on the way back but don’t want to distract him.

Mills set his phone to the side and reluctantly returned to his studies. He got a thumbs up from Ryeong a few minutes later.

It wasn’t too long after that when Mills got a text from Aiden.

Aiden: You needed something?

Mills: Yeah, Smokes has me stuck. Can you pick something up for us to eat?

Mills sent a picture of Smokes on his lap.

Aiden: Okay.

Mills smiled slightly, setting his phone to the side and relaxing back, petting Smokes absently and waiting for Aiden.

Mills didn’t have to wait long before the door opened and Aiden walked inside, setting a bag on their kitchen counter and walking over to Mills, giving him a kiss on the top of his head. Mills smiled, tilting his head back.

“What did you get us?” He asked absently, watching Aiden gently pick Smokes up and cradle the cat in his arms.

“Ingredients for pasta.” Aiden answered, Mills stood up, stretching with a groan.

“Oh? You plan to make it for us?”

“Yes.”

Mills chuckled, giving Aiden a kiss on the cheek.

“Want to take a shower first?” He offered, Aiden looked over at him.

“Together?”

“Uh- I…” Mills blushed slightly, looking away with a thoughtful expression. “Well… I suppose if you wanted to take a shower together…” He trailed off.

“I do.” Aiden set Smokes down on the counter, turning to face Mills completely. Mills smiled slightly, gently taking Aiden’s hand and leading him towards their bathroom.
