First date

Summary:

After Yoonchae helped Megan with her heat they want to get to know each other more

Work Text:

It is now 3 days after Yoonchae helped Megan out with her heat.

They have been texting back and forth since after the heat had ended. It was mostly Megan thanking Yoonchae for her kindness and Yoonchae not accepting it saying it was the right thing to do.

But they both want to get to know each other some more and see if it can go anywhere.

Thursday

Megan: Hey

Yoonchae: Hey, what's up?

Megan: Nothing much, I justed wanted to ask if your free to go for coffee tomorrow before your first class?

Yoonchae: Yea, I would love to! Which coffee shop would you wanna go to?

Megan: We can go to the new one that just opened up beside campus. I heard it's pretty good.

Yoonchae: Yea that sounds good, is 8 okay? Since I have class at 9.

Megan: I'll see you there

Yoonchae: Can't wait!

Megan: Great, it's a date

Megan laughs at her phone after the conversation was over, at Yoonchaes excited.

"What's got you smiling at your phone like that?"

Sophia questions Yoonchae's smirks from the opposite end of the couch.

"I'm going to get coffee with Megan tomorrow before class"

Yoonchae smiles, still staring at her text messages with her.

"Ooo is it a date?"

Sophia says eager to know.

"No! Or well, I guess she did say it was one"

Yoonchae shows Sophia her phone.

"Ayeee, little Yoonchip's first date"

Sophia is hyping her up.

"It's not that serious Soph we've been texting back and forth since after the heat happened"

Yoonchae tries to calm the situation.

"It is that serious Yoonchae!"

Daniela pops her head up from Sophia's lap to join the conversation.

"I thought you were asleep!"

Sophia jumps, startled.

"Not anymore, I wake up when it comes to romance" Daniela laughs.

"Whatever" Yoonchae mumbles while getting up and walking to her room.

"Goodnight!" Sophia and Daniela shout while shes walking away.

Friday

Megan wakes up at 6:30am to make sure she has enough time to get ready and look good for Yoonchae.

She quickly jumps into the shower to freshen up and after she completes her 6-step Korean skincare routine.

She is wrapped in a towel while she rummages through her closet looking for something to wear. She settles on a pair of blue baggy jeans and nice white tee

It's 7:30 when she realises she hasn't got any makeup on, quickly deciding to do a plain, natural look.

It's 7:43 when she walks out of her shared dorm, making her way towards the newly opened cafe.

The café was tucked away on a quiet side street.

Yoonchae pushed open the door first, the little bell above it chiming softly. The smell of fresh coffee and pastries filled the air.

"You're late," Megan said dramatically, already seated by the window.

Yoonchae blinked. "I'm literally two minutes late."

"Two whole minutes."

"You're impossible."

Megan grinned and slid a menu across the table. "And yet you're here".

Yoonchae tried not to smile back. Failed immediately.

The afternoon sunlight streamed through the glass, painting golden patterns across the wooden table. Around them, people chatted quietly.

"So," Megan said, leaning forward. "What's your order?"

"I haven't decided."

When the barista came over, Yoonchae ordered an iced vanilla latte with 2 danish pastries.

She was growing alpha after all.

Megan, ordered a strawberry matcha.

She quickly focused on stirring her drink when it arrived.

Megan, meanwhile, was busy attempting to steal one of Yoonchae's pastries.

"Hey."

"What?"

"That's mine."

"I was checking if it was poisoned."

"With one bite?"

Megan nodded seriously.

"A thorough investigation."

Yoonchae laughed despite herself.

The conversation drifted from random memories to future dreams.

Somewhere along the way, Megan started telling a story so animatedly that she nearly knocked over her coffee.

Yoonchae reached out automatically and caught the cup before disaster struck.

Their hands brushed.

For a second, neither moved.

The café noise seemed to fade into the background.

Megan looked up.

Yoonchae looked away first.

"...Careful," she muttered.

Megan smiled softly.

"Thanks."

The rest of the afternoon passed too quickly.

Eventually, the sky outside turned orange, and the café grew quieter.

"We should head back. Before you have class." Megan said reluctantly.

"Probably."

Neither stood up.

Another minute passed.

Then another.

Megan laughed.

"We're really bad at leaving places it seems."

"That's because you keep starting new conversations."

"You answer them."

"Unfortunately."

"Wow. That's so mean."

Yoonchae shook her head, smiling.

When they finally stepped outside, the evening air was cool and refreshing.

For a moment, they walked side by side in comfortable silence.

Then Megan nudged Yoonchae's shoulder.

"I'll see you soon?"

Yoonchae pretended to think about it.

"Hmm."

"Yoonchae."

"Maybe."

"Yoonchae."

A laugh escaped her.

"Okay. Maybe."

Megan rolled her eyes.

"I'll take it."

And together they disappeared towards campus, already arguing about where they could see eachother again.

Once Megan dropped her off at her 9am she quickly placed a kiss on Yoonchaes cheek before turning and making her way back to her dorm

Yoonchae makes her way into her class bright red

~~~
The dorm was unusually quiet when Megan came back.
Well, quiet by the dorms standards.
Which meant Lara was sprawled across the couch scrolling through her phone while Manon sat nearby, half-watching a movie and half-ignoring it.
The front door clicked open.
Megan walked in.
Smiling.
A very specific kind of smiling.
The kind of smile that immediately made Lara lower her phone.
"...Oh no."
Manon looked up.
"What?"
Lara pointed dramatically.
"Look at her."
Megan stopped.
"What?"
"That face."
"What face?"
"That face."
Manon squinted.
"...She's right."
Megan kicked off her shoes.
"You two are weird."
"How was the coffee date?" Lara asked casually.
Megan froze.
For exactly half a second.
Which was half a second too long.
Manon sat upright.
"Wait."
Lara gasped.
"Oh my God."
"What?"
"You called it a date."
"I did not."
"You literally did."
"I didn't."
"You absolutely did."
Megan pointed accusingly at both of them.
"You're making things up."
Lara was already laughing.
Manon looked far too interested now.
"So how did it go?"
"It was coffee."
"Uh-huh."
"We drank coffee."
"Uh-huh."
"We talked."
"Uh-huh."
Lara crossed her arms.
"The smile says otherwise."
Megan immediately tried to stop smiling.
Unfortunately, that somehow made her smile even more.
Manon burst out laughing.
"She's cooked."
"I am not cooked."
"You're smiling at the wall."
"There is no wall."
"You just proved my point."
Megan groaned and collapsed onto the couch.
Lara leaned over dramatically.
"Tell us everything."
"There is nothing to tell."
"Everything."
"It was normal."
"Suspicious answer."
"It was."
"What did you talk about?"
"Stuff."
"Terrible answer."
"Life."
"Better."
"Music."
"Reasonable."
"Pastries."
Manon nodded.
"Important."
"Very important."
Lara narrowed her eyes.
"And?"
Megan hesitated.
A dangerous mistake.
Because both Lara and Manon noticed immediately.
"And?" they asked together.
Megan looked away.
"There was a moment."
The room exploded.
"A MOMENT?" Lara shouted.
Manon grabbed a pillow and hugged it.
"I knew it."
"It wasn't a moment."
"You literally called it a moment."
"I regret saying anything."
Lara was already standing.
"What happened?"
Megan buried her face in her hands.
"Nothing happened."
"That's not what a 'moment' is."
"I almost spilled my coffee."
"And?"
"She caught it."
Lara stared.
Manon stared.
Silence.
Then—
"THAT'S IT?" Lara yelled.
Megan threw a pillow at her.
"You asked!"
"Girl, I thought you were about to tell us something dramatic."
"It was dramatic."
"It was a coffee cup."
"It could've spilled."
"You guys have literally fucked and you're saying near spilt coffee is a moment?!"
Manon was laughing so hard she could barely breathe.
Megan couldn't help laughing too.
The warmth from the afternoon still lingered.
The easy conversations.
The way Yoonchae had laughed.
The way neither of them had wanted to leave.
Lara suddenly pointed at her.
"There it is again."
"What?"
"The smile."
Megan immediately covered her mouth.
"Oh, it's bad," Manon said.
"It's really bad."
"It is not bad."
Lara and Manon exchanged a look.
The kind of look friends exchange when they've figured something out before the person involved has.
Megan noticed.
"Don't."
"We didn't say anything."
"You were thinking something."
"We were."
"Stop it."
Lara grinned.
"No promises."
As Megan groaned and threw another pillow, the dorm filled with laughter.
And somewhere in the back of her mind, she found herself wondering where she and Yoonchae should get coffee next time.
Which, unfortunately for her, only made her smile again.
"SEE?" Lara shouted.
"OH MY GOD," Megan replied.
