"Where crows do not rest"- Jackentine (Jackson Jekyll & Kieran Valentine)

Summary:

In a world where monsters and humans learned to coexist under fragile and hypocritical agreements, Monster High stands as a symbol of inclusion that long ago stopped keeping its promise—and Jackson Jekyll knows it better than anyone. Half-human, half-monster, Jackson has learned to survive by being invisible. Between hallways that punish difference and glances filled with hatred, his life is reduced to holding on just one more day in this place.

While the past insists on returning and the present grows increasingly suffocating, the appearance of Kieran Valentine—a disgraced vampire, as cruel as he is broken—changes the course of his story. Between hatred, desire, and self-destruction, both will find themselves trapped in a complicated relationship.

Because not all love are meant to be saved, especially when luck is not on their side.

All events take place after Draculaura's 1600th birthday.

Chapter 1: Prologue 'The World'

Chapter Text

A courtesy of ice—that is the best way to describe the treatment monsters received from humans 400 years ago, though they had been living among them for more years than they could remember. The monsters' struggle evolved as the years passed; little by little, they earned their place in the world, as well as the validation they sought to be treated as sentient beings rather than mere inanimate objects to be discriminated against. Monsters and humans began to coexist in a "respectful" manner 100 years ago through a mutual agreement that validated both parties. Now, they could share the same world to avoid unnecessary wars; nevertheless, both monsters and humans harbored suspicion and rejection toward each other simply for being different, with the sole condition that hate crimes from either side were unacceptable.

Monster High had emerged 200 years ago as a joint effort by thirteen families of monster lineages who were tired of the separation between monster species. Bloodgood was the one who accepted the role of headmistress back then, never relinquishing the position to anyone else. This was meant to be the first co-ed monster school, accepting all kinds of monsters regardless of their species, encouraging its students to accept and respect their differences in a safe environment.

On the other hand, the school's entire motto was thrown out the window by the students themselves, who lived within a parallel system of their own. It was a dynamic that had been present since the school was founded, showing that even if some intentions are good, they are not always perfect. The dynamic in which everyone took part was built on hypocrisy and hierarchies that they themselves established by praising and idolizing monsters who met standards they determined. Only the wealthiest, most attractive, and charismatic had the opportunity to stand out and be respected in this place; those who didn't meet those standards were simply ignored or rejected, and some were even bullied—a rather ironic reality considering the focus for which the school had been created.

Among all those who lost themselves in the crowd and the rejection, there was a boy whom almost no one saw, even though he saw everything far beyond the surface: Jackson Jekyll.
