ThatMob was frozen again, in the same place he always seemed to end up.
Watching. Just watching.
All he could do was watch. Watch Twixxel get torn apart by Verity — oh, Verity.
He should have never downloaded that stupid mod. He knew so much better than to trust a suspicious link from his friend, whom he barely even spoke to.
So, with an even heavier heart and despair slowly envelopping him, he watches his best friend, mangled and bloody, be eaten alive.
Until -
Mob sits up in a panic, breathing uneven with hot tears rolling down his cheeks. He grips his chest, heart beating faster than any should.
_______
It takes him a little while to calm himself. An embarrassing while, mind you — he'd been having that same dream at least every few nights for weeks, yet he still reacts about the same.
“Again?"
Mob jolts at the sound of the voice, immediately putting his guard back up, shoulders at his ears.
He makes a sort of “guh” sound, whipping his head around, only to find Verity laying in the same place as always, in ball form — unlike the monstrous one he'd seen in his nightmare.
“Oh, uh, Verity," he manages to get out, “forgot you were there.”
“I know,” he replies cheerfully, seeming wholly unaffected by Mob’s previous outburst.
Mob glances around for a moment. From his limited view outside the window, the sky was seemingly still dark.
“You should go back to sleep,” Verity comments. “Waking up too early can cause lack of energy and disrupt your sleep schedule!”
“Yeah yeah, I know..”
Mob lays down on his back, staring up at the ceiling with half-lidded eyes, trying to convince himself he's still tired.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
“Verity? Could you, like, give me tips on sleeping or sumthin…?”
“Well, that sort of thing tends to vary from person to person,” the other replies, “but I think you'd benefit most from more warmth right now!”
Mob, halfway in a daze and desperate to sleep once more to avoid thinking about his previous dream, tries to think of anything in his house that could be hotter than him.
He recalls how Verity tends to feel somewhat warm whenever he carries him around, and promptly scoops him up from the crafting table beside his bed, dropping the now startled yellow ball beside him.
Mob nestles him comfortably into his chest with one hand draped over him, sighing into the heat radiating from Verity.
Mob can feel his eyes drooping already, fully comfortable with his guard down — when he hears a near-silent rumble coming from Verity.
He immediately tenses, unfamiliar with the sound, before slowly relaxing once more, realising no danger is nearby.
In fact, it almost sounds like…
“Are you 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨?” Mob asks, incredulous.
The noise immediately slows to a stop when he speaks, as if the other is embarrassed. Surely enough, he notices a slight flush on Verity’s normally yellow surface upon looking down through the covers.
Nervously, Mob slowly lifts the hand rested on top of Verity and begins petting him, hearing the rumble start up again.
With a tired grip, he sets the other a bit higher up, right above his collarbone, then changes his mind, dragging him up further — right up to his lips.
With his little remaining energy, Mob presses a kiss to Verity’s two-dimensional mouth, then drifts off for the night to the sound of Verity’s soft purrs.
