Work Text:

Reigen Arataka, self proclaimed, greatest psychic of the twenty first century, found himself rushing his dishevelled form towards the nearest local bar. After a particularly rough day filled with awkward customers and exorcisms that quickly turned wrong, he was in need of a drink. He fixed his cheap, light gray suit and straightened his pink tie before sheepishly opening the door. He was welcomed by the noise of loud partygoers and sullen businessmen who quietly argued with each other. Reigen solemnly slipped between the two groups that flocked the wooden bar, before waving the tender over.

“A lemon sour. Extra sour.” Reigen speaks with the added exaggeration of his hands that seem to have a life of their own.

Reigen leans his elbows on the table in front of him before twisting his head around for anything that may have seemed mildly interesting. Eventually, he locks eyes with a random woman that seemed to be in her late 30s. Her figure looked dull as the light above the corner booth that she resided in flickered on and off at an unsettling pace. His eyes widened as the mysterious woman glared in his direction, giving him a dirty look in the process. He hurried to settle his gaze anywhere else, deciding to stare at his black dress shoes as he shuffled his feet under him.

After what seemed like an eternity of subtle neck rubs, twisting his feet and checking his cell phone every minute to make him look occupied, a drink slid in front of him. It was an unhealthy shade of yellow, almost as if the second he drinks the liquid, his body will collapse and his throat will close up. Sometimes he wishes that were true. Slowly, Reigen picks the glass from the glossed bar, twisting it around in his hand before dipping his head and taking a low, soft sip. He immediately contorted his face as the alcohol slid down, burning, into his body. As he began the place the half emptied drink back onto the bar, a man shoved his shoulder viciously into him. The glass slipped from his loosened grip, slamming onto the floor with a loud shatter. Reigen tensed his shoulders, once again glancing around the room with more purpose than the last time as he attempted to find the stranger who caused this mess of sharp, broken glass that strung itself across the room.

“Hey! Mister!” He raises his voice as he attempts to grab the man's attention.

Slowly, the person turned, annoyance evident on his features as he stopped dead in his tracks. “What do you what?”

Reigen’s jaw tightened, his teeth grinding against each other as he spoke lower than before, his tone laced with a hint of irritation. “You know you could watch where you’re going every once in a while..” He announced, his finger pointed to the floor that was decorated with shards of glass.

The man's face contorted, his shoulders shrugging upward as he turned to continue walking away.

“You can't just–!” Reigen promptly cut himself off as the figure disappeared into the sea of people who littered the floor.

Defeated, he let out a soft sigh and slumped his shoulders. He slowly shuffled from one foot to the next, unknowing of what to do. His brain flickered between his options before choosing to leave, the glass wasn’t his problem anyway.

He picked up his feet, trudging through the crowds of people before pushing the door open, a sharp gust of freezing air hitting him, a shiver running down his spine as he adjusted to the temperature. He huffed through his nose before beginning the long walk back to his dingy apartment that resided on the other side of town. Maybe he could grab another drink tomorrow.
