Red Like Blood and Blue Like the Starry Night Sky

Summary:

Remlin wants to know what Rudo's favorite color is but Rudo has to think about that though, because he doesn't know but he figures it out anyways.

Notes:

So um, I made this in one setting while sitting in a tent cause me and my families are camping as school just got out

Am I tired? Yeah, very much so.

How am I posting this while camping? Cause for some reason I have internet, or enough to post this. Barely tho, oh, I'm also not far from a small town

Oh well, works for me cause I'm low-key dying

Anyways, hope whoever reads this enjoys what I have writing today

Tee hee

Work Text:

"What's your favorite color Rudo?"

The question floats in the air for a bit, not in a hurry to be answered, just there. Waiting patiently, giving me time to think about my answer or giving me time to do whatever.

This kind of question is common, good for small talk. I always hated small talk though, didn't really do me any good when it always lead to things better left alone than not. Usually just meant they were trying to get close with me just to use me and then leave me in the dust, wondering why I trusted another person. Even if it was only a little, barely anything, still hurt.

Still ached.

I take a quick look at Remlin, who sits besides me in a big wide open spot we found. It was quiet, peaceful, nice even. I like it here, no one is here to bother us. No one to stop us from being us, just peace in a place where peace is hardly known. More of a dream than anything, especially with the cleaners. Everything is always loud, panicked, adrenalin filled, and overall is just a lot and it's been getting to me lately.

Not that I would let them know that, rather not deal with the outcome of that.

I take notice in the way the light sunlight let through from the polluted clouds makes Remlims hair slightly glow, their eyes focused on the drawing slowly being put together on the ground. No doubt being one of the many new ones they will create sooner rather than later.

Remlim doesn't push me to answer, letting silence take place- like a bubble surrounding us rather than suffocating. Listening to music, chatter of people walling near the alleyway, laughter from kids running around and adults having a nice chat on a bench somewhere.

I don't know why they haven't pushed for my answer, they are usually very chaotic, like a time bomb ready to explode with joy, how they don't get exhausted just from that is insane to me. But who knows, we are different people after all with completely different mindsets and lives.

I sigh, trying to think of what my favorite color is. Never thought about it before, never was important. Color was color and there wasn't a whole lot of it where I lived, everything was the same boring old wood, or the white marble.

It's shocking I know all the colors I infact so know honeslty, Regto had to show me them with one of his many books that would lay on the shelf in the so called living room that acted as our whole house. Other than the singular small room that both me and Regto would sleep in.

Thinking harder, I look up at the sky, not much to look at.

Hardly anything to see other than the same sad seen of clouds that barley resembled clouds to begin with.

But, it feels so oddly similar.

The peacefulness, all quiet, no push for talking, just sitting together with another person I made some sort of friendship with.

"Rudo come on, gonna show something amazing get up.." Regto pushes, getting me to get off my bed. A smile on his face, a gental one. Not one I'm familiar with, and probably won't be anytime soon. But he says that's okay, and what Regto says has never steered me wrong. Doubt it will anytime soon, I wonder how he does it. "You will love it Rudo, I just know it."

"I will..?" I mumble, going outside of our home alongside him, my hand in is. A grounding feeling, also helps me no topple over. It was a tiring say today. "Just tell me what it is old man."

The old man in question chuckles, not effected by my sharp tounged words. Never has been. "Just wait and see, come on almost there." Regto states, picking up a ladder I had no idea we had and placing it so we can climb up to the roof. "Well technically you can see it now, but it's nicer on the roof so go on." He adds, using his hands to gesture to the ladder.

I give him a questioning look, but follow along, I have been living with him for about a year now. Honestly, if he wanted to watch the stars with me he could've just said so. I guess today mist be special, how is something I don't know.

I guess I just have to find out.

Regto climbs up after me, and we both settle on the roof calmly.

Or we'll, he does, I'm left sitting there amazing by just how beautiful the sky looks. The sun slowly setting into the clouds, or well,, just setting because the sky is completely clear tonight.

I hardly see the sky so clear, honeslfy I don't think I have ever. But now, because of how clear the sky is, I can see all the colors, all the stars that Regto had exclaimed to be so far away.

"You like what you see Rudo?" Regto asked, and I don't bother to look, I know he is smiling.

"Yes.." I breath out.

The blue looks so pretty tonight.

Me and Regto continue to look out at the stars the rest of the night, with him recalling stories about some of the stars and constellations. Laughing together about the more funny stories or jokes Regto made with some.

It felt nice.

I shake my head, getting myself to get back with the present.

"Hm? Did something happen Rudo?" Remlin questions, now looking at me and away from their art that now sits there on the ground finished and amazing. As always.

"No, nothing happened." I answer, taking a moment before adding, "dark blue is.. my favorite color."

Remlin smiles, a grin spreading from ear to ear. "Good choice," they reply before getting up. "I think it's time we better start heading back though, the sun is starting to set and they wanted us to be back before dark."

I blink, taking time to look back up and realized they're right. I didn't even realize.

"Yeah we should," and with that, I get up to, walking alongside them.

"Get up Rudo, it's time to get off the roof, We got a long day ahead of us."
