what if he knew from the start?

Summary:

“My name is Okuto Nakamura. I’m a boring high school student living a boring high schoo life. And, I’m shy, gay, and madly in love with Aiki Hirose.” Nakamura started every day with the same, really quite redundant self monologue. And every day, completely unbeknownst to him, Hirose heard it all.

*note that this is a completely alternate universe, so nothing in here is related or based off of anything in the canon timeline*

Notes:

hiii! this is my first time writing a fanfiction, and i wanted my first to be the fluffiest fluff to ever exist. hopefully this comes off as cute rather than cringey. stick with it, i promise it'll get good. i'm planning to update pretty often and the chapters are gonna be pretty short~~~

UPDATE: im going to update every two weeks and this will be approx. 10 chapters!!

Chapter 1: backstory stuff

Chapter Text

In the sixth grade, Hirose discovered that he had the ability to read minds. The first time he read somebody else’s mind was notably awkward as it ended in the destruction of a two year relationship between two seventh graders Hirose wasn’t even friends with.

He tried not to make this “special ability” known to many, as he discovered early on that many people were becoming friends with him only because they were interested in hearing some juicy gossip about their crushes or homeroom teachers.

Up until high school he had never had any reason to really use this power, but after hearing his name mentioned every day for a month straight coming from the same person, he had now found purpose in it.

“Hirose! Hellooo? You done daydreaming?” Oomori ran over to Hirose’s desk and smacked him flat on the head with a math textbook.

“No, no, I’m just listening to take number 3 of Nakamura’s daily monologue.”

Out of all of Hirose’s friends, Oomori was the only one he had told about the telepathy, and recently Nakamura’s consistent monologues had become the prevalent topic of their conversations.

Oomori sat on Hirose’s desk and folded his legs. “Seriously? That guy has got some serious issues.”

Hirose shrugged. “I don’t know, I mean it's kind of flattering. Can you imagine knowing someone thought about how madly in love they were with you every single morning of every single day?”

“Isn’t it a little stalkerish though? You’ve never even met the guy, and he seems pretty obsessed with you.” Oomori did have a point. After all, Hirose never told him about the moment they had shared at the start of the school year.

He remembered the first time he saw Nakamura, it was at the high school entrance ceremony. The orientation presentation had just finished, and he was trying his best to regain his composure after having to sit through an hour and a half of listening to over 200 high schoolers’ thoughts. Whenever Hirose went to any crowded social events, it was difficult to drown out that many thoughts at once.

Hirose had stepped outside of the gymnasium to find some peace and quiet. He had been sitting down on a bench outside the bathroom when he saw a cute, dark haired boy clumsily stumble out of the auditorium. He held a flyer in one hand and his phone in the other.
The boy nervously peeked around for a few seconds, checked his phone, and let out a long groan.

“Oh my god you might actually be the most stupid person in the entire freaking world!” He slapped his head in frustration. “Bathroom outside of the gymnasium, not the auditoriun. Of course it's outside the gymnasium, why the heck would it be outside the auditorium, nobody even comes here!”

The dark haired boy’s phone rang, and a voice came through the phone.

“Nakamura! Where in the world are you? We’ve been waiting for like three hundred years for you to get here. If you dont come in the next ten seconds I’m driving off without you and stealing the money in your wallet.”

“I’m literally on the way, just give me one second!” He stormed off in an angry fit, grumpily muttering to himself and slamming the doors behind him.

Hirose laughed to himself. This short, small glimpse into a complete stranger had shockingly enough been the highlight of the entrance ceremony.

“Nakamura..what an odd name. Wonder if we’ll have any classes together.”
