Chapter Text
After Hagrid had frogmarched the trio up to Gryffindor Tower and repeatedly lectured them on the way about the dangers of roaming around the grounds after dark, the mood was gloomy.
Hermione excused herself shortly afterwards saying that she was tired and had retired to bed. With all the subjects she’d opted for, Harry didn’t blame her. Ron had scowled at her retreating back before muttering a “G’night,” and stomping off as well.
Alone now, Harry could only think about how quickly the day had gone after Divination and Professor Trelawney’s predictions. Ron and Hermione had clashed over lunch, before the whole debacle with Buckbeak. Harry doubted they’d be making up anytime soon.
The Common Room was crowded as it usually was this early in the year. There was a rather large crowd in front of the Bulletin Board scuffling and jostling as they craned their necks to try and see whatever had been pinned up. Just then Percy Weasley broke away from them talking excitedly to himself.
“Next week! I’ll have to let Penelope know.. Maybe if I write now…”
Curious despite himself, Harry stood to stop Percy before he could make his way out and asked him what the crowd was gathered for.
“Clubs, Harry! I’ve just pinned the information that Professor McGonagall entrusted to me onto the bulletin board. Naturally, everyone is quite excited to see when the Duelling and Gobstones Clubs will start again. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a letter to pen,” Percy explained with his chest thrown out, before rushing away in a flurry.
Harry made his way to the bulletin board and waited for the crowd to thin before he took a look at the notice. It had a number of clubs listed that Harry went through before one stood out to him.
Duelling Club.
He was surprised it was still a thing given that Lockhart had hosted a meeting last year and that had failed horribly. Then again, this was being organised by Professor Flitwick and seemed to be a longer commitment with a meeting every weekend. Many other clubs were advertised too-Chess, Gobstones, but Duelling certainly stood out as a good one to go for especially with Sirius Black on the prowl…
