Chapter 1: Undivided attention

Chapter Text

Kookoo casted a glare, or rather what would be a glare considering that his eyes were just x shapes at the tall figure standing in front of him. The arrogant bastard pushed him down, making some excuse that he had been disrespectful to the king. He had a massive smile on his face as he leaned over the other sin.

“Watcha looking at huh? Oh wait I forgot, nothing! Now, Kookoo, do me a favor and tell me why you've been so prideful, you should know better than that.”

He felt a gloved hand grip his tongue pulling his face up. Dozer must be in some sort of a mood today, the other had been acting weird with everyone. Extremely short tempered.

 “Don'dt.”

He muttered a warning, though it was muffled.

“What? Cat got your tongue? Or did I?” Dozer teased his tone heavy and thick like honey, dripping with no good intent.

Dozer tugged harder. Kookoo knew that if he tried to fight him he'd regret it. Pride was one of the seven deadly sins, meaning it was one of the strongest entities, or at least that's what Dozer claimed and he didn't really want to test that. Kookoo inhaled sharply. He tried to think of anywhere else he could be in, any other situation, try and box himself out until the king got bored and left. That didn't exactly go as planned.

“That's not going to work. I don't ask much of you Kookoo, and you can't even listen to that. I ask you to bow and you turn your head. I ask for your respect and you ignore me!” Dozer snapped. Kookoo could sense his frustration. What the fuck is his problem?

The two stayed like that for a bit, Dozer rambling more, attitude with no real explanation. Kookoo didn't pay attention, that is until Dozer finally let go of his tongue. He snapped his mouth shut, his lips forming in a straight line, keeping his expression blank, he knew the king’s face was shadowed, an expression The King had when he was extremely agitated. It'd be best to stay neutral. He thought for a moment on how to escape. The only way for him to get out of this situation unharmed would be to cover and beg, Dozer would love the ego boost, it'd work fine though kookoo wouldn't mentally recover from the humiliation. He really hoped the other sins weren't nearby, they already thought so little of him already, and he didn't want to hit rock bottom. Maybe a simple apology could work.

Dozer was now grabbing his hoodie strings, he always wore his hoodie unless he had to change into a suit.

“S0rry D0z3r…”

He felt the king pause for a moment, his grip loosening a tad before tightening, dozer hummed thoughtfully before speaking once more.

“For what exactly my friend?..” This prick. Kookoo held back a disgruntled sigh at Dozer’s antics.

“S0rry f0r d1sr3sp3ct1ng y0u.”

“And?” The king tilted his head, kookoo could feel his gaze rake across his face.

He had to bite his tongue to hold back an insult. Taking a breath he continued, his voice staggering and glitching.

“F0-f0-r b31n-g-g pr1d3-3-ful.”

“I didn't quite catch that, care to repeat that Kookoo?”

“I’m s0rry f0r b31ng pr1d3ful, D0z3r.”

He had to say the words slowly, each syllable destroying his ego beyond repair.

“H4ppy?! 1 4ppolog1zed.” Kookoo hissed trying to be reasonable, though his arms flailed in frustration.. The king nodded, straightening his hoodie.

“I suppose, I mean I can't get my hopes up, a lousy apology is already past your limit. I'll take it.” Dozer purred, flicking off lint.

Kookoo was grinding his teeth, a clicking sound that was audible now.

“G3t 0ff.”

He growled freeing himself from Dozer’s grip. He brushed himself off, then opened a pop-up so he could see around the room. Litany was sitting in a chair, her legs crossed as she looked at the two in utter disappointment. “Morons.” she signed.

Kookoo ignored her, fixing his attention back to Dozer who was fiddling with his sleeping gown, which was somehow still oversized despite his fatass. Kookoo groaned. He sat down next to litany putting his head in his palms. Dozer finally joined them, leaning what felt like 90 percent of his bodyweight on Kookoo.

“I'm so bored…” he groaned, leaning his head on Kookoo’s shoulder. Kookoo rolled his eyes.

“Kookoo what time is it?..”

“3:49 4m.” he replied, not skipping a beat.

“Ugh.”

“What are you groaning for?” Litany signed to Dozer, her hands flicking quickly.

The king ignored her and closed his eyes, an action he always did to piss her off every time she tried to scold him. Her feathers puffed out slightly in agitation. Before she could actually get angry to actually do something Kookoo put his hand on her shoulder, a sad attempt at reassurance. Dozer soon fell asleep, his head on Kookoo’s lap. Litany had been summoned to go torment John, or rather she get tormented considering it was reprieve. Time passed slowly, Dozer was still asleep and pinned to his lap. What an idiot. Kookoo shifted on the bench starting to make an attempt to get the sin off. After a bit he successfully shoved Dozer off, but soon came to regret it as the king rolled off the bench hitting the floor with a thump. Dozer grunted, his eyes snapping open immediately darting to Kookoo's face. Some compelling force brought him to his knees.

“Ugh. You. You pushed me didn't you!?”

“N0n0n0n0n0 y0u d0nt und3rst4nd! 1 d1dnt m34n t0. H0n3st t0 g0d!”

He lifted his hands up, swallowing. The king cast a long hard glare, Kookoo felt as if his skull would cave in, if he had one. He never really took the time to actually know his own biology. He didn't really care. The sound of Dozer snapping his finger took him away from his thoughts.

“Can you pay attention for once in your life kookoo? Like just a little?”

The king always wanted attention, this was natural for pride. What was unnatural was wanting someone’s specific undivided attention, at least in kookoo’s opinion. He blinked his “eyes” as he felt a firm grip tug on his hoodie strings. Kookoo could feel his heart beating out of his chest.

“I’m tired of you. I'll make you listen one way or another.”

Dozer's voice was low and bitter. A sound that kookoo rarely ever heard. Dozer hated when people didn't value their time with him.

Kookoo struggled trying to free himself, and Dozer was now dragging him away.

 “Wh3r3 4re we g01ng?! D0z3r!”

A gloved hand clapped over his mouth. The fabric was a fine silk, soft and comfortable. It almost distracted him from the fact he was getting kidnapped of some sort. He should probably tell god, but he knew they wouldn't really care what happened to him. He could call for litany- but for what? To show her he can't stick up for himself? After what felt like hours of walking, Dozer helped him up the stairs. He could tell they were stone based on the feeling under his boot. Once they reached the top he heard a latch click open and he was guided through doors. It seemed they finally arrived at their destination, Dozer's house- or what resembled one, he was certain it was a home of some sort. Maybe more of a castle. He couldn't tell exactly what because he couldn't see. The gloved hand finally slipped down. Kookoo swallowed trying to identify Dozer's location.

“Wh4t d0 y0u w4nt??”

The king stayed quiet, and Kookoo felt a hand brush his face. Not a gloved one. He gripped the other's wrist, Dozer had removed his gloves.

“D0Z3R!?” kookoo snapped.

He gripped his wrist tighter trying to get an answer out of him, the king's grip was firm.

“Nothing. Just be quiet.” Dozer muttered.

Kookoo sensed the immediate change in attitude, Dozer constantly did this, be all bitchy and whiny, then moody, then… sentimental.

 “Wh4ts w1th th3 sw1tchup?”

Dozer audibly sighed, finally releasing Kookoo from his grasp.

“I'm tired of this Kookoo, you're so stubborn despite being weak- 1m n0t- You are. You're incredibly weak, and….”

Dozer spoke with authority, a tone lacking any care as if speaking common facts.

“I want to know why you keep pushing me.”

“Y0u’r3 4n 1d10t.” kookoo sighed.

The silence rang out before Kookoo heard rustling. He opened a tab and took in his surroundings. Dozer was wrapping a purple blanket with yellow stars around him. It seemed to be a thick blanket, with white fluff on the inner side. He had a matching hat with a crown resting on-top of it. The king was trying to ignore him. He sighed and helped himself to the nearest chair, taking out a phone (which no one knew how he managed to get,) and began scrolling. Because there was no Internet wherever they were, it didn't exactly work. He just held onto it for the purpose of saying "I have this and you don't” to anyone who made the mistake of questioning him within his earshot. He scrolled up and down the contact list, which was made up of spam numbers and his ‘friends’ numbers that you text once then never again. He let out a groan glancing up at Dozer once more, starting to get impatient.

“W3ll s1nc3 y0ur3 n0t b31ng 4 v3ry g00d h0st 1 supp0s3 1ll w3lc0m3 mys3lf 1n.” kookoo finally got up and walked into the next room. He located a fridge and dug through it. He immediately shut it due to the smell. It was a disgusting smell that hit him in the back of his throat, the putrid scent of rotten flesh. He coughed for a moment trying to get the essence out of his memory. He blindly stumbled back tripping, but not actually hitting the ground. This process repeated a bit, him tripping and swaying, until he managed to find the chair he was originally seated in.

 “Y0ur3 fr1dg3 1s d1scust1ng.”

Kookoo cast what would've been a glare at Dozer. Even the sin of escapism, me, delaying important things and whatnot would've surely cleaned his own fridge. Kookoo told himself, eventually, at least. Dozer was leaning against the wall facing away from him.

 “D0Z3R!”

Kookoo raised his voice, getting annoyed at the lack of reaction. He reopened the computer tab, granting himself sight. He then stomped over to Dozer only to find the other was asleep. He checked the time. 5:02. He let out a sigh and attempted to lift up Dozer. No use, the king was much larger than him. He thought about waking him for a moment before realizing that was a terrible idea.

Every time he woke up for John, if he wasn't bowed down his head would get split. Of course God would always revive John every time that'd happen, but he wasn't too sure of himself. He blinked. Dozer should go sleep in a bed atleast, but waking him up was a death sentence and moving him was impossible. Kookoo frowned.

 “1 gu3ss y0ur3 sl33p1ng 0n th3 w4ll t0n1ght buddy.”

Kookoo held the computer tab open as he walked around. He knew he'd wake up before Dozer would so he decided to sleep in the first bed he saw. He'd leave first thing in the morning. The bed was rather large. Plush pillows with blankets and silks fit for a king. He climbed in and slept. Dozer probably wouldn't mind… Well as long as he didn't find out. Kookoo slept rather peacefully and the bed was extremely comfortable. Although it reeked of Dozer.

A door slam made Kookoo jump. He immediately got up and crawled under the bed. “DAD!!” He heard Seesay’s voice ring out through the halls, somehow booming despite being barely above a whisper.

“Sh1t.”

Kookoo made sure he was fully under the bed. Finally the heavy footsteps of Dozer sounded. “Seesay… What do you want? I was sleeping.” He could hear the sin's voice ring out, it always had that effect, sometimes even with a “heavenly” echo.

“You're always sleeping! I'm going to start telling everyone you love sleeping more than life!”  Dozer audibly groaned.

“Uhm Seesay have you seen Kookoo around?”

“Why? Are you gay for him?”

“I-n- just tell me where he is.”

“Why?”

Dozer ignored her, or at least Kookoo thought he did as there was no audible reply. He listened for a moment until he felt the floorboards creak under him. Dozer was right in front of him. The bedframes screamed in agony as Dozer finally laid down. He wasn't caught. Yet. Seesay giggled chasing after Dozer.

“I'm gonna tell Kookoo you like him!..”

Seesay was the sin of gossip or spreading rumors. It made sense she was Dozer’s child, gossip related to pride by putting others down, even if portrayed as a harmless jest. Kookoo swallowed trying to be silent. Covet slowly followed after Seesay, his frame shaking with envy- literally. He was the sin of envy. Kookoo wasn't sure if Dozer and Covet were related. Dozer was an old sin, been around forever. Kookoo held his breath.

“You can't go back to sleep! I just got her-”

Seesay paused. Kookoo held back panic.

 “You had kookoo come over.”

“What..?” Dozer's voice was drowsy.

“You did!” Seesay was giggling, her frame shaking, but as he looked past her he saw Covet staring at him. He pointed a finger to his lips. He slowly put his hand down, closing the tab and rolling over to his back. Fuck. God he was so fucked.

“Dozer…”

Covet began to speak his voice thin.

“Have you checked under the bed?”

Kookoo inhaled sharply. Dozer reluctantly got up and crouched down.

 “Kookoo?!”

The king exclaimed. Kookoo stared blankly. Dozer reached out grabbing him by the hoodie strings before lifting him up by his collar. Kookoo’s mind was blank. He'd never admit that he was delaying leaving because he didn't feel like walking last night. Why must he delay everything?

The king shook him lightly.

“Why are you under my bed!? I fell asleep when you are at my home and when I wake up you're under my bed?!” kookoo winced.

“1 uhm… y0u f3ll 4sl33p 4nd 1 d1dnt w4nt t0 w4lk b4ck… 4l0n3, 0r 1n th3 c0ld.”

Dozer's face went through five different expressions before facepalming.

“Youre so lazy.” he muttered at last sitting kookoo on the bed. Kookoo blinked before a giggle snuck out from Seesay.

“OUT. NOW.” Dozer’s voice echoed slamming the door once the two left, Covet muttering about how he never got to sit in Dozer’s bed. Kookoo was allowed to. He always was.
